- Gettysburg 105 ( PREX 105 reporting ) works on the Napoleon Defiance and Western Railway in Defiance Ohio. It has been several years since I've gotten video of it running. It is seldom used, only when all other locomotives are out on the road. Johns Manville in Defiance gets daily service.
I used to work at that plant in the early 70s and actually loaded glass marbles Into short covered hoppers like the one in the video. At that time that was done there on the front corner of the building before the siding crosses the street. I shot a picture of 105 sitting at the grain elevator in Cecil Ohio oh Thanksgiving weekend this year.
Interesting I didn’t know what they were moving on these trains
@@ScottTaipaleRail they actually make glass at that plant. They shape it into those marbles to ease transport and to move the glass to the pots where it gets melted to make the insulation. Interesting to see. The big hoppers most likely have the sand and or other materials needed to make the glass.
Fascinating footage of a super loco in great locations. Thanks so much for sharing.
Thank you for watching
Nice video Scott. I really love that old GP9, nice to see it still in its original look & not altered with a chopped hood.
Thank you. I don't get many opportunities to film an unchopped unit
It's nice to see the old girl in action once again. Thanks Scott.
You're welcome and thank you
I used to load ceiling tiles out of there and took them up to certainteed in Plymouth wis to be cut and processed into the finished product of drop ceiling tiles.
Nice catch Scott. Glad to see it riding the rails. Awesome sound
Thank you
Great video especially at the end. She runs very clean too.
Thank you!
That was really
cool. Keep them coming. Thanks.
Thank you, I plan on it!
Amazing sight to see!!
THANK YOU FOR DETAIL VIDEO
Awesome catch!
I really want to get a video this engine
They use it more regularly now
What kind of camera are you using the picture is so clear
Thank you, Panasonic HC-V750
Nice video! What camera do you use?
Thank you. A Panasonic HC-V750 was used on this video
Do you mind me also asking what tripod you use? Trying to upgrade soon
Ravelli AVTP Professional 75mm Video Camera Tripod with Fluid Drag Head and a used Bogen Manfrotto 3036 which I highly recommend
Nice video!
Thank you!
Your welcome!
I know where that is ... that's right next to St. John's, isn't it?
Yes right across the street. The spur curved around the north and east sides of the church
A few years back, I did a photo shoot at St. John's. Don't recall any trains running that day.
Too bad since you had the camera handy
Sure did! I need to find that camera ... not sure which nook or cranny it ended up in when I moved ... and cruise over here to the great viewing track we have, only half a mile away!
Nice job Scott do you live in Ohio
Thank you. Yes
no ditchlights lol
Yes very little has been altered
Johnny Bellamy Don’t need them for certain reasons. As I can’t remember why.
not required here
@@andrewworman1200 As I recall, it's something like you can't go through a public grade crossing at more than 15mph without ditch lights. You don't _need_ ditch lights, but there are operational consequences for not having them. (Also, I read in comments somewhere on UA-cam that a working Mars light is an acceptable substitute for ditch lights, that's grandfathered into the regulations.)
cool
Thanks
