  • How to make cardboard thread spools look like wooden vintage thread spools, using 4 different thread spool craft ideas. Cover them with paper, paint or decorate them for craft projects.
Can be used as a ribbon or thread spool to organize and store off cuts.
I saw small wooden cotton reels on etsy for $30.00 for 20! At least with these you can make them any size you want and as many as you want, using your off cuts for free!
Make miniature ones, heck, even make half a one so that it can be glued onto a card.
Check it out, even it you don’t make one it’s fun to watch.

Thank you for sharing this wonderful project. I have been looking for this type of idea to store my shorter lengths of ribbon, lace, yarns and threads so they are not a big tangled mess. Your instructions are clear and very easy to understand. Your spools turned out so cute. I hope mine turns out as nice as yours did. Again, Thank you for sharing.

Thanks for sharing this, Donna. I made my own spool for the Down the Garden Path project I am working on. I bought round coasters to make the top and bottom, and I was thinking once I glued them together I would need to use wood filler or something to make them look as one thick piece. Watching your technique, I will try just sanding. You have also given lots of ideas for finishing the spool off too. So glad you subscribed and led me to this useful technique. 😊

oh hi Leanne nice to meet you! I just started watching some of the down the garden path, just beautiful...yeh sanding does bring the pieces to gether pretty well, you can sand a flat edge or a rounded edge, see you along the trail 🦋 hugs Donna
