Absolutely gutted I only found your channel 2 weeks before my A levels begin and not sooner :( However I'm over the moon that I now have these amazing videos for the last minute tying up loose ends! Thank you so so much!!
I think poly nitration of toluene (methylbenzene) can yield TNT (trinitrotoluene). I'm familiar with the positions being 2 (ortho), 3 (meta), and 4 (para) if the methyl group is at the 1 position. I'm not a student or a chemist, but I just love learning about science in general, and I love these videos! Thanks a lot!
Nice video however for the formation of the electrophile I learned a different reaction for the same specification and board (F324 OCR): HNO3 + H2SO4 --> H2NO3+ + HS04- H2NO3+ + H2SO4 --> H3O+ + HSO4- + NO2+ to give overall equation: HNO3 + 2H2SO4- --> NO2+ + 2HSO4- + H3O+ Is this right? Thanks

If so can you do videos on unit 3 & 4 because your explaining is so good 😊
Thanks, glad you like it. Don’t teach wjec but I know students and teachers who follow that, so use my videos. I’ve done the entire OCR A level course
I just want to say thank you
Jessica Egharevba Very kind of you 😊
Nice video however for the formation of the electrophile I learned a different reaction for the same specification and board (F324 OCR):
HNO3 + H2SO4 --> H2NO3+ + HS04-
H2NO3+ + H2SO4 --> H3O+ + HSO4- + NO2+
to give overall equation: HNO3 + 2H2SO4- --> NO2+ + 2HSO4- + H3O+
Is this right?
Thanks
Correct, the one in the video is easier to remember
Ah ok.. so can I mention yours and still get the same number of marks as I would get if I mention mine?
I've only ever used the one in the video. Never had a problem
thank u sir very helpful
Just a correction sir , in the nitration of benzene , h3o is formed not h2o
Hno3+2h2so4=no2 + hso4 + h3o
Thank you , the videos are very helpful .
that's incorrect
does hno3 + h2so4 not form the NO2+, HSO4 and H3O+??
nah now ur hydrogens are unbalanced
Does the halogen carrier need to be the same as the halogen being subsituted, for example would Br2 need AlBr3 or could you still use AlCl3?
Best off same otherwise all kinds of hell breaks loose!! You could get the wrong halogen substituting etc
sir do u still loose a ark for spelling electrophillic wrong?
No so long as it’s reasonably close
My lifesaver
do you have any practice questions on these topics
Thanks :)
Yep you can easily find them online
god bless u thank u so much sir!!
Anyone else doing the F324 OCR retake this year? I managed to get a C in this last year but was aiming for an A :/
