'Stranger Things' Star Noah Schnapp Watches Himself Cry On Screen w/ Winona Ryder

- Noah Schanpp is best known for playing Will Byers on Netflix 'Stranger Things.' In season 2, we get to see a lot more of Noah Schnapp's character, particularly in this scene.
Noah was cool enough to sit down with us and watch one of his most emotional scenes with Winona Ryder -- where he has to cry on screen. He also talks about the one curse word he can't say -- let's just say he's a real "bad butt" as he explains.
Schnapp talks about the support Ryder gave him in this scene, as well as the direction he received from the director of Stranger Things while doing this intense scene.

When I was a kid in the 1960s it was definitely one of those words I was not allowed to use and I don't use it very often still, but I also cuss less than my non-religious friends. But I'm in the VAST minority. I'm literally the ONLY person I know who doesn't routinely use "ass," so I was actually surprised that Noah avoided using the word "ass." Come to think of it, though, I've also heard Caleb McLaughlin say "bad butt." It might be partly a result of being trained to watch what they say on camera, overcompensation. I don't think anyone would have been shocked or offended if Noah had said "badass." I have heard any mention that any of the kids are being raised with religion and group interview they did on AOL Build gave me the impression they were not religious by the way they talked about death; but that's just an impression and so religious values could be at play.

TheWrap It's Hopper, then Will. But Noah is my favorite out of the whole cast.
Noah " I don not see me when I watch this" That is a sign of a great actor, completely losing your personal identidy and becoming the character. He has it!
I appreciated that comment too because I very much see Noah sitting for an interview, but Will in the series. I've wondered just how much time these kids in particular, but actors in general, take to think of their characters as separate people and imagine their thoughts and feelings in any given scene.
Maybe they just have the it actor talent but in some other interviews Noah has said he prepared by looking up scences in other similar movies, working with winona, etc. Imagination skills have a lot do do with seeing yourself switch to the other character
its also a sign of DID association disorder and I worry about him as he gets older :(

I am rooting for Noah to get nominated and win his first Emmy. He has shown so much range at such a young age and has researched his role and is an absolute role model for me and my friends. Please do not overlook this once in a lifetime super talent ♡
Speaking as an adult, I'm glad you see him as a role model. He definitely comes across as serious about his work, while also liking to have fun. When I watched the season the first time, I was stunned by his performance, whether sad, scared, screaming, or the cold, "Let me go," and "No, he likes it cold." The "Let me go" line (episode 8 in the shed) especially impressed me because you can see that Will is trying to emerge and the Mind Flayer reasserts itself and Wills almost crying face just turns blank and the tone is cold. THAT's acting!
Totally agree with you dude!! I'm waiting for Noah to get the appreciation he deserves.
I really want him to get a nom and he definitely deserves one. I doubt he'd win against the likes of Peter Dinklage or Justin Hartley, but it would still be amazing for him to get a nom and at his age. Oh my God.
