Pretty cool tutorial, despite all the comments from guys who cant do this. And it does look like a fun project. I live in Alaska, and I have a project upcoming to make some spruce paddles for my canoe. Theyll probably take me a while, off and on to complete. Have to cut the trees, slab them, dry them, trace out the shape, rough cut them, finish them off with chisels, gouges and sanding, etc. Can I buy a pair of paddles for next to nothing? Sure, but doing the project is half the fun.
Very clever, thanks! I’ve got several high quality spare $2-$5 linesman pliers from garage sales/thrift stores. Great project to practice basic skills. 👍🏼😃
Good work Don. Those work well for inside snap rings because when you squeeze the handle, the tips contract. To make a set for outside snap rings, start with a pair of batter terminal pliers - these open *or spread( when you squeeze the handles. Sure, you can make do with either but having both makes for a better option. As far as making them, personally I love to make specialized tools. Anyone with money or a credit card can buy most anything, but you dont have the satisfaction or sense of accomplishment of making them.
Very cool, Don! I bought a snap ring pliers set that can be adjusted for opening and closing ring gaps for both kinds and it came with different sizes of pin-hole tips for different size rings. I don't know if it could handle o-rings that big, but it's worked for everything I've needed so far. You're always so helpful with things like this. I've had applications for welding, but had to figure out other ways to deal with them. Maybe one day. Todd of Project Farm did a welder comparison review not long long ago and, for my needs, the $90 one would be good enough.
Nothing's wrong, for keeping the creative juices flowing. I know there will be a lot of comments on "I don't own most of those tools", Well, how do you think Dony got them ? Certainly not from playing video games. Get off your fat butt, create something that will generate some profits THEN, buy the appropriate tools. Built bird house/feeders. Built lawn decorations ...etc... Have some plans. DO SOMETHING !
The really delicious thing is to demonstrate the capacity and ability to handle multiple tools, improve our work, but above all "Make our Ideas come true" I really CONGRATULATIONS! I send you a big HUG, best wishes from CDMX, Mexico! Blessings forever!
Well Jake and i were very surprised by the totally new video concept you did here Donny, very well done. It is all about the build, excellent. By the way did you ever get our EP hat we sent you?
You will be surprised at what you can accomplish with a 4 1/2 in grinder and a simple welder . I had to rebuild the transmission on my Street Glide and according to the HD service manual if had to buy all the special tools to do it it would have cost me $700 US . Made every thing myself and worked out fine .
@@donyboy73yeah I do know you can buy cheap lineman pliers. And I did give credit for ingenuity. And I do know good snap ring pliers aren't cheap but, not everyone has a shop with, spot welders. Every kind of die grinders and cutting tools to be able to do all that the video showed. So basically, as cool as it is to say, " look what I can do", ya have to have hundreds of dollars worth of tools,to save 40 bucks. But it's still a cool video.
I’m glad I found this comment because I was wondering if this video was for real. Sorry, I have to agree with the mindset of “if you can afford a shop with that much equipment, you can probably afford some real snap ring pliers”. I guess I would feel differently about it if the job had been done with hand tools only. No welder, grinder, drill, etc.
@@fyrcap962 I did check harbor freight and saw their cast snap ring 12 inch pliers for 31 bucks each. Inner and outer. I'm not knocking ingenuity. It's how man has moved beyond the stone age. But yeah, those of us that don't have a decent shop loaded with drill presses, welding equipment, etc, are gonna find it hard to take a pair of 5 inch,5 buck pliers and build a pair of snap ring pliers. But I don't want to take away from the ingenuity at all.
Watch how I made a Bearing Puller here;

Mighty clever. I hope you report back in a year or two, how well they hold up. Thanks for the video.
Pretty slick.... nice work.
Nice job sir

Nice little tool build; we don't see these very often. We shared this video on our homemade tools forum this week 😎
Thank you
Great idea for crappy lineman’s pliers. A little time, a little skill. Cost = free.
Excellent idea. Thanks for sharing

I couldn't have said it better myself!
With a welder and grinder and a brain, it crazy what you can make. The fun of being able to make is well, the fun of it. R. Verro, you nailed it!
Eres un genio, gracias por compartir😊

Very cool Dony. Thanks for that trick. 👍👍🍁
Snap ring= Circlip.
Nice job.
= Jesus clip as in "where did that thing fly to?"
You got da Bug Eh !
I don’t have those other tools so I will just buy it
You Kill me!!!!!!! great Job!!!!
I'll stick with my Knipex snap ring pliers
Super boulot ! Plus de vidéos en français serait bien , cousin canadien ! merci
Or you could just buy one for 20 bucks
5 bucks at harbor freight
@@The-Armed-Pacifist for a set of 4
@@Zombeegun Exactly! I know that they are not finely engineered German or Swiss quality, but it’s just a snap ring.
Not everyone lives where you can just drive a few minutes and buy some tool or wait for a package. Amazon takes 2 weeks at best to deliver here.
@@Banditt42 Better call Jeff and let him know.
Thank you. Grateful if someone could advise on the music used in the clip.
Try looking in the "description" section of the video. It's down the bottom in the Android app.
Use non zinc plated nuts for a better weld.
thanks for info
Must've been a slow day at the shop? LOL😏
Always busy at the shop!
That's one way of doing it
Will these do external and internal snap Rings 🤔 okay I see that they do both of them
yes, watch video to the end
@@donyboy73 I did that

Just round n sharp long nose pliers, isn't ?!
Yes, but you wouldn't have the possibility to change the tips which is a pretty nice feature. Regards !
I was on board until the welding part.
💪
Just buy good ones.
It's 2 weeks late unfortunately I broke the tip ont the size I needed and spent money for a new one
Nope, those new tips are likely to break again for the same reason tt did in the first place sooo ... I'd say yo uare ahead a few months. Lol !
Wait a minute, I thought you were going to start with extracting the minerals from the ground. ;-)
That's pretty ingenious but wasting a 39 dollar pair of lineman pliers to make a 29 dollar single direction snap ring tool seems...? You decide.
These were $5

💡Brilliant idea with interchangeable bit ends.🫡
My time is too important to make these....I can probably buy a pair for $12 to $15. Just my opinion 😊😊

Good video, I would buy one just to carry with me in the city when I visit there for protection. j/k cool video
