I find this totally incomprehensible. Israel is not a member of NATO either, and though I realize the U.S. and Israel are long-time allies, Ukraine has proven its commitment to democracy ten-fold.
And the US (& UK, and Russia) guaranteed the territorial integrity of Ukraine when Ukraine gave Russia its nuclear weapons. Ukraine should have been accepted into NATO but Germany said “nein.” In 2014 the US should have had a much stronger response including troops on the ground .

I've written to David Cameron about seizing the initiative in Europe to try to find another 7 Patriot systems for Ukraine but the impetus just doesn't seem to be there! I have yet to receive a response! The UK could have spearheaded a drive to round up a Patriot system from each country across Europe and, for the life of me, I just can't understand why!!! I am so embarrassed by the lack of conscience by America towards Ukraine, there is a pact signed by the US that they would assist Ukraine if Ukraine gave up their Soviet nuclear missiles, Ukraine did this, Russia promised not to ever attack Ukraine, so Russia broke its' part of the treaty and now the US is doing the same.
US already left them hanging out to dry in 2014 when putler stole Crimea and started the war in Donbas. Obama suddenly declared that this was "a European problem" that had nothing to do with the US, no sir. He did a couple of not very harsh sanctions but that was it. He wouldn't even sell (not give, sell!) Javelins to Ukraine. And the US was not there at the Minsk negotiations or the Normandy format meeting in Paris in 2019. Just imagine if Ukraine had had a strong partner in its corner at these meetings! Maybe the full invasion would have never happened. Instead, Trump tried to extort Zelenskyy and made him look like he had no support from the US. Of course putler thought the invasion would be easy.

Congress must look past any hesitation or obstinance and overcome division to swiftly pass such a package.
@@Cody38Super After 9 11 NATO evoked article 5, NATO member countries and allies of the US had boots on the ground to support the US in Afghanistan, including Ukraine had boots on the ground plus allowed the use of their airspace and airstrip. BTW Israel did not have boots on the ground in Afghanistan. All the European countries that were occupied by the Soviets in WW2 and afterwards till 1991 they were controlled by the Soviets. I personally know friends, including a brother-in-law who were able to flee countries that were under Soviet control /occupation and immigrated to Canada. What they told me shocked me, they fear their actions of escaping or their actions in Canada may cost their family members safety and health. My brother-in-law while in Canada was scared to join a union or vote for a political party which had the support of unions in Canada.

As an American I am very disappointed in our failure to robustly adhere to the security agreements we supposed as outlined in the Budapest Memorandum of 1994. Our president has stated that we will stand with Ukraine for as long as it takes. Granted Putin’s operatives MAGA and especially the mentally challenged Majorie Taylor Greene stand in the way, however I believe we as the USA can do more. In light of our apparent memory loss regarding our previous NPT
Agreement we should only offer our encouragiment and 0 tell hang on until MAGA gets out of the way. Ukraine is an inspiring heroic example for all time

Many have been influenced by decades of Russian propaganda. As a Canadian I've seen Russian propaganda repeated by fellow Canadians. Personally I believe there is a lack of critical thinking skills along with a lack of historical information and economics. I wish the US congress would vote for country over party and the Americans this election vote for country over party.

I guess French , American, British presence is already an established fact througout the Levant. There is no tradition of their presence in eastern Europe though. Alotta ice has to be broken while walking on eggshells. France has made moves or suggestions to getting a presence underway .

@@1justme There are 3 segments of Europe. South Europe, North Europe and Eastern Europe. South Europe is economically weak. North Europe has contributed the highest in terms of military plus humanitarian aid. Eastern Europe is a mixed bag with some countries very high per capita and some are Russian simps.

@@1justmeRecall that the US insisted that Ukraine hand over what was the third largest nuclear arsenal ... to Russia(!). Why did Ukraine do that? Because they believed our assurances that we would protect Ukraine if they were ever attacked. So we DO owe Ukraine a lot.
That said, it is wise for Europe to build up their own military capabilities so that Europe can protect themselves for those periods of time when the US is unreliable.
