As for ventilation we are adding the MaxxAir dome vent fan to our options list. We find it to be a great option that is very cost effective and is not mounted in the roof! Not yet on our website but will be in the next week, along with a some dedicated 12Volt options.
I was just about to post the add-ons list from the Homecoming Rally information I received yesterday. There were some other items that seem to be new as well. Let me know if these are just for the Homecoming. 😊
@@JackFalltradeslol yes I’ve been working on some new options that isn’t on your list either lol You’re welcome to share, everything is finalized just wanted to give you guys a first look.
@@PlayingwithSticksnext month February 16th-19th is our homecoming rally. Thank you for the great video, I can tell a lot of work went into it. Feel free to reach out anytime.
We are approaching 3 years of owning our 6x8 Venturist. It has been pulled over some pretty rough terrain in that time with zero issues. We spent a while looking at campers and in the end chose Runaway because of the no wood construction, one piece roof, the price point compared to other options and the fact that it is a family owned and operated business that was within 2 hours of our home. It’s also nice having a blank canvas that you can build out to your own specific needs. Another plus is the Runaway customers themselves. They are a great group of people and we have met some life long friends from attending the rally’s they have throughout the year thanks to the Runaway brand. It’s hard to put a dollar amount on the value of that. No regrets with our decision. We would 100% purchase again.
We have had our Runaway Camper for 7 years. We have logged countless miles including an epic road trip from Key West to the Arctic Circle. That we documented on our UA-cam channel. I can say without a doubt it has been a game changer for us. We enjoyed watching this video.
Hey guys! We actually had you in the original video, but I am realizing now I accidentally cut that section out. What is a Runaway video without Hanginwithherky!
@@PlayingwithSticks thanks Drew we are still going strong. After 7 years and looking at countless other options for our adventure rig we still go back to our current rig. We still have other adventures in the planing stages and the runaway is part of that.
Ed I am curious to hear what adventures you have planned. We have had Glacier high on our list for years. I am hoping this year we actually make that dream a reality. @@Hanginwithherky
I have a 4x8 Venturist that I bought new in 2020. It's #47. They number the Venturists which is pretty cool. I have towed this in places with my Jeep that 90+% of other trailers simply could not do. It's amazing. I've customized the interior to my exact specs and change it as I feel I need to. I have 0 issues with it. I love it. It's simplicity also means no winterizing. I live in New England and my Venturist lives outdoors year round with no issues at all to day. It's just a great trailer for so many reasons!
For cold weather camping I recommend a great electric blanket, I find it under “Safe and warm technology” electric blanket that uses 12v safe power in the blanket that converts to 110v. It’s so comfy and we’ve used it in super cold weather in a trailer we rented on AirBNB-the trailer ran out of propane and the water froze, but under that blanket we were really comfy.
I just outfitted my van, but if I were to buy a trailer, it would definitely be this company. I first learned about them quite a few years ago. I love seeing the company grow and the quality getting better.
This company gets it. Thanks for covering their trailers. The addition of a exhaust fan as a option now is awesome. Hopefully it's not one of those really noisy pop up/out round exhaust fans. Also, the option of arctic tern windows is fantastic. Hopefully they are the awning type that would shed water better while open during rain. I wish the 6x8 options were 6.5x8 so I could gain more interior buildout room by orienting the bed side to side and fit comfortably because of my height. All you need to know about this company is how happy their customers are. They are also a warm, welcoming and supportive community to anyone with questions, concerns and build out help. Runaway builds great trailers, great relationships and it carries over to how their customers treat each other and outsiders. It's rare in this day and age in the buisness world to see a company that makes all this happen. It's no accident. Runaway wants this and as a company, made it happen. Thankyou Runaway and thankyou Drew.
Really like the minimalist campers & the price tags on these, makes it much more attainable for a huge amount of people. I think people often get caught up in trying to make camping like living at home as much as possible which I truly don’t understand, and this one seems to not do that.
We bought our highway RangeRunner in 2021 and have been very happy with it. Kept it simple with a 3 window setup. We use a tri-fold north-south queen bed. I'm 6,2 and needed all the leg room. I am planning to cut a hole in the sidewall and add a bathroom style push-out fan because I've found that simply cracking the windows doesn't always provide enough air circulation. We have the one piece roof and Runaway cautions you against cutting any hole in it and I didn't really want to do that anyway. I also built a battery setup so that I don't always have to be plugged in (runs everything but AC) and put a toolbox on the front. There's so much you can do with these and the customizing has been one of my favorite aspects of it.
On our trailer that we were building, we also added a fan to the side wall. It makes a lot more sense. Your camper setup sounds great. The options for customization are pretty limitless with these types of campers.
We had a Rangerunner, and it was great! We ended up selling it since we weren't able to use it as much as we liked, but it was a great camper. Held its value really well too. We sold it for almost as much as we paid for it. Great company to work with too.
My husband and i bought a Runaway Rouser in Nov of 2023 from a distributor in PA XYZ Camping. The Rouser is the stand up model. We are currently building it out this winter to be used for this year's camping season. Because Runaway does not have kitchens in their trailers we will most likely be building a pull out kitchen in the back of our Nissan Frontier. Also we wanted to be able to build it indoors in our barn where we had heat for the winter because we live in Western NY, so we put some 8 inch tire rims on the trailer and it lowered it enough to get it inside a regular height garage door. We plan on running our trailer this season at NY Campgrounds and making any changes to things so we can take it out West next year.
Neat to hear you are able to get that taller trailer inside your garage! The winter project sounds great. Brings back memories of when we remodeled our Shasta Compact. Your pull out kitchen sounds like a great idea as well. I wonder if folks are making models with legs that can drop down for different uses. It would be fun to have the ability to place the SUV kitchen in diffferent areas of the campsite if needed.
Runaway doesn’t offer a 5 foot wide trailer which is a problem. When l was shopping for an off road trailer to tow behind my 2 door Jeep Wrangler l was looking at the Venturist. The 4x8 is too small and the 6x8 would have been wider than my Jeep and too wide for many trails l drive on. I got a Tiny Camper 5x8 Kong which has the Timbren suspension and they matched the tires on my trailer to my Jeep’s tires, negating the need for a spare for the trailer. After taking my Jeep and trailer down trails in the desert and the woods l am SO glad l didn’t get a 6 foot wide trailer! I can’t tell you how many times l have been on a narrow trail and had to pull over to let an oncoming vehicle pass and that extra foot would have been a real problem!
Until you mentioned it, I didn't even realize they didn't have a 5 foot wide. Thank you for pointing that out. By the way YOU haver really piqued my interest about Tiny Camper Company. I am so excited to highlight them at some point on the channel. Love what they are doing.
I live about 20 miles from their Summerfield location. Stopped there to look at them once and it happened to be the weekend of their rally so drove through to look at the various setups(until security told us we couldn't be there lol). I really don't want to tow but if I decide to go the trailer route the Range Runner would be the one for me. What I like more than anything is the blank slate inside that allows you to set it up as you like. What it comes down to is I want a Toyota hybrid vehicle for the fuel economy and the reliability. Will either be this or a Moonlander topper on a small hybrid pickup(my preference). The Moonlander turns a truck bed into the best aspects of a small trailer without the towing, the setup, maintenance, tags, insurance. If I can't find the right hybrid pickup(Ford F-150 too expensive) will settle for a good used Honda Ridgeline. It's wide enough to give an 82" sleeping platform width wise and it's hard to beat its in bed floor trunk space. Can get an Ecoflow portable air conditioner that runs on a battery that can be charged with solar. The a/c in the Runaway needs shore power or a generator and that's problematic. What I'm hoping for is a hybrid pickup with a midgate that'll allow the climate control to come back into the Moonlander topper. There's also these hoses called noggles that you can get that attach to a/c vents to run cool air to the back of the cab. You can get them up to 10' long so could run a couple through a rear cab pass through window and through Moonlander passthrough into the bed area. The Moonlander is 31" high inside plus the height of the truck bed sidewalls so a bit more interior height to work with. It's super strong and you won't be dealing with the forces that wear on a trailer with regular towing. But if I end up buying a Toyota Corolla Cross hybrid then the Runaway, or very possibly the Road Toad, is the way to go. I like very much the electrical package you can get with the Road Toad.
I’ve had one since 2015 and logged thousands of hours. Love my RangeRunner and the best part it’s exactly how I want it and need it … and nothing I don’t! When I think I am ready for a bigger trailer, I go on a trip with my Runaway and say “nope”.
I’ve had my Runaway Coolcamp for almost three years. I purchased it from Runaway campers Arizona. I camp once a month, over 10000 miles and 5 states. And I tow it with a 2016 KIA Soul. I love it! Only issues I’ve had with it is the license plate placement and set up and the keys for the doors. Each door has a separate key. Other than that, I love my little trailer and I’ll be going to my third rally in May.
The separate keyed doors gave me a little laugh. My grip with small camper trailers is how little key fobs are out there. I carry around 3 little purple keys. And I kid you not, I probably should not be saying this on here, those three keys can get me into 99% of small camper trailers on the road. And this includes all those $30K-$40k models. Well, all of them without electronic keypads. What is the rally you are attending in May?
It’s a Rally I’m hosting just for Runaway campers. We’ll be at Homolovi State park outside of Winslow Arizona. So far we have around 18 campers that will be there.
Mine was around $6700 and I’ve more than gotten my money worth out of it. The happiness this glorified utility trailer brings me justifies what I spent on it.
@austinwhipple1136 I see diminishing returns on most of these trailers once you get above $10,000 dollars there’s really high diminishing returns. When you pay 6700, it’s pretty easy to get the value out of it.
We bought Our Little Runaway from Jack and his family in Arizona, and they were absolutely amazing throughout the entire process. Living in California, they were the closest dealer to us, and they helped us with our Runaway dream! The reasons we went with Runaway were for their affordability, lightweight to size ratio and the blank slate they offer which is very appealing to a lot of people who don't need or want all the bells and whistles that add on to the cost. We've built ours to our liking with solar for offgrid capabilities and an outdoor shower option, to name a few. Shoutout to Jack and Katie!
This is a great player in this market. It opens up the small camper options to a lot more people. Gotta love that. Also love the use of new materials. For me, not having a galley is a con. I just don’t want to have to load and unload my entire kitchen. Though a few years ago I wouldn’t have cared. The six by eight has the space for pullouts to add a simple galley too.
With a full sized or twin mattress , you'd have plenty of room for a workspace. My home built was 6x10 and I had loads of room, width wise with a pull out bed.
Well runaway campers are NOT RVs as the founder would put it. It's intended to replace tent camping! I think they're expecting you to start a fire outdoors with some rocks and your own cooking pan/pot 🍳 🔥 🏕️ it's for camping!! Besides galleys take up soo much precious limited room space in an already tiny camper and those galleys would likely drive up the cost for those who are just looking for a tent replacement that gets you off the hard cold wet dusty ground. Besides some owners typically build their own galley anyway. A custom galley you build yourself in your style is probably gonna be better anyway than buying one already made for you.
@AlFonso-p6p a minimalist camper, should not be priced as a full featured camper. For the price they are asking, it should be decidedly better optioned. You do not pay Ford Mustang GT money for a Ford Fiesta. The thumbnail says sub 10k. The price as shown is 19 and change. At the 9.02 mark, it is mentioned about how the competition starts at 24k. And how you can buy 2 of these for that. As he is standing NEXT to the pricing showing what it really costs. Which again is NOT sub 10k. Which is why I noted for 20k it should have things like a galley.
@@yesihavebedbugs2786 Paused @2:42 that's the venturist off-road model (most expensive one) but it is 11945 price but it adds up to 19327 with all the options. They have cheaper models with or without options.
Woohoo, you finally did a Runaway video! Thank you! We absolutely love our Rangerunner! We’re going into our third season with it, we have the composite. The lightweight construction means I lose no mpg on my v6 Frontier pulling it, yet the axle can be loaded up to 3500#. I’m always having to add weight in fact do it won’t bounce, it’s so light. But we really enjoy the bed space. Oriented north to south, we have a traditional queen size bed with space left over on the sides. That and the storage space in front cannot be beat in any other tear or square out there. As well as the price! Can’t say I’ve been missing the vent fan we had in our previous camper though, but some may consider this a con. With three windows and two doors, moisture doesn’t hang out long. We typically don’t boondock however, and have two rechargeable fans if we do and those have proven to work pretty well in combo with open windows. I just look at it like tent camping in a hard sided tent lol. All the perks and none of the setup. Just park and camp 😊 Thanks again for the review! Take care, hopefully your family is doing well!
Not to start a "brand flame". What do you not like about your current trailer? You know kind of like what Drew does. 3 pros and 3 cons. It could be helpful to others considering a trailer like the on you have some regrets about.
I remember now, as I searched my picks, saw one of these this last summer in Brown County State Park. BCSP is one of Indiana's most used state parks and is mostly filled with RV's! The owners said they use to own a RV, but now, kids gone have this exact model and LOVE it!!! I think they were pulling it with Chevy Equinox. It was funny because they were surrounded by big RV's.. It was cool to see....
This is something i can finally afford. It fits in my 1 car garage, its material I want, its not over 10k, this is what rvs this size should be priced but the prices ran away since 2020. Definitely picking up shifts to buy this baby down the road, appreciate the video!!!
We first had the Runaway 4x8 Navigator - wood and aluminum build. We loved it and then moved to the fiberglass RangeRunner model. Actually, we had the very first fiberglass Runaway and it was great having the extra room. I installed a MaxxAir 5100k fan and MaxxAir passive vent in our RangeRunner. You can see how we did it on my channel (Non-monetized btw). Greta little sleeping boxes on wheels. And the owners are great too!
Hey Charles! For those of you who are reading this and are looking to learn more from charles, here is his channel ua-cam.com/channels/e-2iqe00HXfojO2OAq4HRQ.html
@JackFalltrades, @PlayingwithSticks Why no option for a MaxxAir Deluxe? A hole in the roof is a hole in the roof might as well make the best if it. I can see Dome fan as a vent but I really hope it’s not the primary fan option. What exactly does “1356Wh 12v Battery System” “1000W inverter” “Suitcase style solar panels” mean? What brand equipment? What is the layout? Why no rooftop solar panel option?
Boy, that grey one is sharp. They definitely look like they could handle highway conditions with no problem. It really gets my juices flowing, thinking about having a small camper
It would be awesome if during the manufacturing process of the walls and ceiling if insulating foam was put in between the inner and outer walls. This would allow for better insulation for cold weather.
the trade off is that it would increase the price point and it compromises the fact that they are trying to produce a "budget" camper. Not everybody winter camps. and electric blankets are available for those camp in cooler temps.
@@Doc1855 I boondock as well! I never hook up. $50? Perhaps in materials (?) but I think that's an underestimation...it's mostly labor -- more time on each trailer creating that extra layer adds up in lower production yields.
@@doloresneilson5349 Not if the foam insulation is sprayed directly into the holes of the inner walls. It would be like a commercial milking machine, only instead of sucking the milk, it’d be forcing it in. Just my 2 cents.
This is more in line with what we're talking about. Great value. Great versatility. Fiberglass even. Very cool. My main concern, after owning the SunRay, is I do like a little more height on the interior. Turns out I'm a little more claustrophobic than I thought. But, I think I would actually buy one of these. I like the materials and accessories a lot. You can get just about anything and everything on this at Home Depot, not Camping World. Very, very cool.
i have been looking for a budget "camper" like this for years, for nothing else but to provide some type of respite when we get hurricanes here in Louisiana. and when you have thousands of people evacuating, you cant and wont always be able to find a hotel with rooms available. i understand the vast majority of people see this as a toy for random excursions to the outdoors, which i also enjoy, but i have other more pressing needs for one like this.
I was waiting to see if you were going to mention my teardrop, the road toad abode and you did... had mine 18 months now and absolutely love the build and add ons... the composite sides keep it really light and I have not noticed any discernible heat or coolness loss ..trailers have really come a long way and as I think people are downsizing more, there may be more choices available every year... safe travels, Drew and fam
It looks to me like there would be a significant amount of insulation value just from the construction and materials of the walls. Having two layers of honeycomb, not just one, should go a long way toward keeping it comfortable inside. The other thing is that I often don't like the location of factory roof vents, and being able to install one (or more) where I want it is a plus.
You are exactly right. In the walkthrough Jack mentioned the thermal break and all the benefits. To us, this would be more than enough insulation. We have done tons of winter camping in Alaska in trailers with 0 insulation. And we were completely fine. However, I am starting to notice a huge benefit during the summer months when using campers with insulation. And yes, good point on vent locations.
I thought the same thing. I started really studying the XS after making this video. I thought it would be a perfect camping companion for me and the boys. I'm not sure how May would feel about this style of camping. The more I study these expedtion trailers the only thing that bums me out is the weight. I wish these were closer to 300lbs. Then I could throw everything on it, including the motorbike.
Definitely an awesome product! We have a competitors trailer and are totally happy. I'm not sure why I hear so many negatives on wood construction. We beat the crap out of our trailer and in two years have had no issues. I'll give a little room there for criticism as we do live in the southwest and rarely deal with the elements like some of the rest of the country. My main con for these are how sterile the interior feels, I love the feel of our little off road cabin. We also camp exclusively off grid so the lack of a MaxFan is a huge deal for us. Great video as always!
I've had three different Runaway models as I love the company and the product. I went from the Rangerunner to the Cool Camp to the Rouser. My favorite is the Rangerunner and I'd give about anything to have my RR back...we made it so comfy and cute. I am very tempted to buy another RR....they are so well made and very affordable. Thanks for the vid! 🙂
@@PlayingwithSticks I changed tow vehicles and, with the shorter profile, I felt the Rouser had too much drag. It pulled fine with the taller vehicle I had, though. The beauty for me about the Runaways is the blank slate. Each model is highly customizable and so much fun to be creative with. As a small trailer enthusiast (I've had six over the years!) if I decide to get another camper it will def be the RR. 🙂
Thank you for sharing. I was wondering if it had to do with the drag. Makes a lot of sense how it wouldn't have as much of an impact with a larger tow vehicle. Like you, we prefer to tow with smaller vehicles, so drag is always in the front of our mind@@rhondalyn100
Well this just made my short list. Simplistic and with a realistic price. All the others make what should be standard, optional. Having things like doors and windows standard help increase productivity and I am sure that is one of the ways they keep cost down.
Good review 👍 Looks like reasonable quality for the price in today's market. I dont see myself getting a small camper like this as they dont tick all the boxes but I would recommend it. We have a Canadian company "The Teardrop Trailer" in New Brunswick" and they are not barely competing in this price range for a wood camper in CDN$ What we need is a manufacturer to step up and produce a one piece insulated for this price, I dont see it happening as I dont think the market demand is there, or is it one of those situations "build it and they will come,,,,buy" 🤣 Cheers
I have a 2019 T@B 320. I had a 2018 and traded it for a Class C which I hated. I had seller remorse so I got a year newer. Which is basically the same. I realize I should have gotten a 2021 or newer with a cassette toilet and an expandable bed. And I watch your videos to see what else is out there. I can stand up in the T@B which is important to me as I keep getting older. ( who doesn’t do that ?)
Nice trailer!! Those pics of different owners interior design were amazing and really made it look cozy! I’d love to see Aegis Adventure Tops products (roof top campers) in this kind of trailers - I believe it will be the great match in terms of principles and materials. Great video as usual, amigo!
I was surprised that you claimed that this camper has no insulation. With these double panels with sealed in air pockets, it should have a decent R- value!
Yes. We hit the thermal break language a couple of times. So you are absolutely right this would have an insulating value. I think what was mentioned was more in reference to what people think of when they think insulation and that in 2024 is typically some form of insulating foam. Insulating properties vs. physical insulation. Thank you. I will try to be more careful with that language going forward.
@@PlayingwithSticks wonder where they get those panels from or if they glue 2 1/2" together. Love this trailer, it is so cool, light and and affordable. Thanks a lot for this review!
Thank you for your video, the trailer called rouser still cost $9220, from its spec I found it is just a 6x8 boxy container with doors. - Interior: 70.5"W x 94.5"L x 5'6"-5,10"H - Overall Dimensions 11'4"L x 7'3"H x 94" that's like $CAD 12000, or just say USD$9000, still quite a bit of money for what it is. And with $CAD 12000, or just say USD$9000 I can get some 3 year old popup tent camper quite decent. I still don't get hard-body panel make it so expensive, given the size of this small trailer, the popup camper maybe have more hard-side wall than this, LOL. and btw I never seen used tear drop for sale in volume like popop camper, they are all like $20k start new ..... .
The pop-up campers weigh double than a rouser or more and tend to rip/leak. Some of the ones that use wood can also rot. Also the rouser doesn't need to be set-up. It's just walk in right away! Plus a rouser can still be pushed or pulled by hand!!! ☝️😲 And they have standard a/c!! Not sure where the a/c is on a pop-up??? 🤔🤷
I have a Taxa Outdoors Mantis that I pull with my Ram 3500 and 2022 Wagoneer Series III, but I have been looking at these trailers to pull with my Jeep Wrangler 392. Technically I can barely pull the Taxa with my Wrangler, but its right at the limit so If you have anything in it your over the rated towing capacity of the 392. These guys seem to have a good balance of features and utility without the stupid price tags. I think the market is starting to cool off a bit in terms of the mega over priced trailers like the Nuthouse industries trailer and others. Thanks for showcasing this trailer, you do an amazing job of creating content and conversation among the community!
I agree with you. I think the overpriced camper market is cooling off a bit as well. I think we will continue to see many of the top dollar camper companies go under within the next year or two. Some of the pillars in this top dollar community will be able to weather the storm and capture the shrinking market as the other companies leave. I have mixed feelings about this. On one hand I never want to see a small camper manufacturer go out of business. But, on the other hand I think pricing and build concepts were starting to get a bit out of hand. I believe I have mentioned this to you before, but like you we have often found the need for two trailers. We always have one 13' trailer in the yard and the teardrop in the garage. They both serve completely different camping purposes for us.
@@PlayingwithSticks It can be difficult to come up with that plan. You are getting a very custom camper build. I am very interested in the Bean Squared if that ever comes to being. Hopefully your camper build is coming along. I guess we will be in the camper and a half group. We are working on adding a rack system and roof top tent to our Gladiator for “quick”/overnight trips.
I love the video content, and always take the guess work out by asking the detailed questions and listing pros & cons of each camper. Which is much appreciated, and the price points as thats always a factor too. Keep up the good work and stay safe! 💙
Now thats my kind, I can put my own stuff in my trailer. I may not like the AC unit but I can see this is the lightweight trailer i been wanting. I might go and see them if they have a floor model. 73
Totally works if your plan is to have an outdoor kitchen and small bathroom tent. Just need a safe comfortable place to sleep and to store things. Why buy and tow more than what you need?
I had heard they had changed their building materials. I considered these when I bought our square drop. When I looked they were “classic” wood construction which deterred me. I like the little gear hauler trailer. That could be a a decent addition.
The gear hauler got me interested as well. I went on a deep dive checking many companies out that were offereing these "expedition trailers." While I love them, I wish they weren't so overbuilt. If I could find one that weighed 300lbs I would buy it tomorrow! I think it would make a perfect camping platform for me and the boys. As for May....
Another idea would be to put a good wedge rooftop tent over the cab of a small hybrid pickup like the Ford Maverick. Put a walk on tonneau cover like a Diamondback on the bed and climb up on it to access the back of the rtt. The bed then becomes a secure gear hauler.
@@kennethkilpatrick3758 That is a good idea too. Also depending on how you are moving and camping and where you are camping, a roof top tent would be a better choice than a trailer.
@@kennethkilpatrick3758 There are many different RTTs out there. Just do your research. A wedge style or hard shell are going to be the quickest for setup. I have a Go Fast Campers SuperLite RTT. It is a wedge style that is lightweight (80 pounds) and a little different design than most of the wedge RTTs on the market. It takes a little longer to open because it does not have gas struts. We use it depending on how we are traveling (road trip with one night stops) or where we are camping ("off road"/difficult access).
ARGH.... drew... look up the Tribe Trailers Expedition 500 - out door kitchen but you have pass through access to the fridge if you need it... have a 2nd small kitchen and prep area inside, so if you need to make a quick coffee or cook in bad weather, you can. it fits into a garage... has a huge battery pack and electrical system thats easy to access maintain, upgrade or repair. Has a large propane storage area. Has... diesel heater!. I swear its like everything we've talked about.
I am looking at options for a trailer to tow behind my Jeep to Tuktoyuktuk and every one has requirements for 120v "goodies". I would like something like this with a "massive" watertank (and sink, hand-pump), a built-in fueling station, a port for a diesel-heater, built-in communications capabilities (HAM radio antenna and mounting for a radio of the users choice) and fitted for sleeping in a hammock instead of on an air-mattress on a "hard floor". Don't need (nor want) microwave, air-conditioning, generators (but solar-ready would be nice), three battery setups (each battery running isolated circuits). Is this something that RunAway Campers would build, or, should I just make it up myself?
This is cool. Weight, you can outfit to what you like. Carry my lightweight Honda dirt bike on the back of the trailer. !!!!😊 And I really like the rooftop tent
We had a neighbor in Anchorage who used his Runaway for hauling gear and his animals. Ultimately he ended up putting it in his backyard and turning it into a home for his pets. Love the ingenuity! I really like the idea of a pop-up camper pulling a teardrop. I always envision the pop up camper as my home and the teardrop as my mobile kitchen.

I'd really like to find one of these pull behind campers that are disability friendly. An easy step in and height is so important to those if us who need that type of accommodation. I'd appreciate a video for those who are disabled. Thank you.
Ok, this seems more up my alley. I just want something cheap enough, that I can handle wout my sons or husband, that can fit in the garage for occasional use.👍👍👍
Sorry I didn't get to this like sooner! I decided to sleep in a bit this morning. Being on the other side of the world makes these video releases pretty early for us. Haha. Glad you are enjoying the videos. I am having a blast making them and getting to hear from all of you.
Had a plastic toilet installed in mine. Made my own plumbing with plastic tubes from home Depot and Amazon+shower+sink Did it myself with UA-cam how-to videos. You can do anything with this trailer! It's amazing!
I think of this as a nicer version of a cargo conversion project. The surfaces are nicer, and I am sure they weigh less, but it's is also twice the price of a similar sized cargo trailer.
Good comparison. Truly similar concepts. Have you ever checked out Weroll trailers? I like what they are doing. They feel like a blend of cargo trailers and small camper industry.
@PlayingwithSticks we went the more conventional route and plan to take delivery of a 18ft bunkhouse style trailer this week. We were going to build either an extra large teardrop or rebuild a small vintage trailer, but the wife wants a toilet. I appreciate your videos. Lots of great information for small rv camping.
For "get the shell, build the rest" Road Toad still wins for me (it helps that Necedah is a 75 min drive), but Runaway does have beefier suspension -- though I don't think I would do much off-roading.
Yes, having a manufacturer nearby is pretty priceless. I love what both these companies are doing. And it doesn't hurt that they are both great families.
@@PlayingwithSticksyeah the road toad was one of my options. But this company makes a walk in type. I don't know if the tow would be harder than the road toad. Taller means more drag at highway speeds. But this trailer has the smaller trailers. Time will tell which trailer I decide to go with. I could get away with a smaller trailer if I pull it with a mini van. My wife gets cluster phobia in closed in spaces so the van would be the better option for her. 73
Thank you for sharing this! Also love hearing that it is not mounted to the roof. You guys get it!
When is the 2024 Homecoming my friend?
@@JackFalltradeslol yes I’ve been working on some new options that isn’t on your list either lol
You’re welcome to share, everything is finalized just wanted to give you guys a first look.

This comment is pure gold. Thank you for sharing this.
Love hearing this! I also really enjoyed hearing how one can change it as they feel the need to. That speaks volumes to me.
Find it easier to warm a space rather than cool it
I just outfitted my van, but if I were to buy a trailer, it would definitely be this company.
Good point on how these campers hold their value well.
A “through spine” hitch to allow the trailer to be self recovered!!! I think I’m in love 💕♥️💕! These designers are my kind of people.
🥰
I love the ”Blank Canvas”, build it how you want to build it capability to this camper, the price is pretty darn good as well ! Thanks Drew !
Well said! I think these guys have a great business model. Good seeing you on here!
$12000 for a glorified utility trailer.
I love that tongue jack. I've had it for a few years and it's been an important upgrade.
For 20k as shown in the video. No gallery seems ridiculous.
Just park and camp 😊
Thanks again for the review! Take care, hopefully your family is doing well!
I just bought another trailer and I'm regretting it now that I'm seeing this product. Looks great guys! Wish your company all the best! 🙏
Thank you very much!
Nice that they put that black cover over the AC…looks much better.
I love my Runaway Rouser. It was important for me to be able to stand up in my little camper.
Very cool. I just wish more companies would give options for a few more inches taller interiors.
Yes, those 3-5 extra inches make a big difference.
They do, they have a taller model called Rouser.

Why no option for a MaxxAir Deluxe? A hole in the roof is a hole in the roof might as well make the best if it. I can see Dome fan as a vent but I really hope it’s not the primary fan option.
What exactly does “1356Wh 12v Battery System” “1000W inverter” “Suitcase style solar panels” mean? What brand equipment? What is the layout? Why no rooftop solar panel option?
Boy, that grey one is sharp. They definitely look like they could handle highway conditions with no problem. It really gets my juices flowing, thinking about having a small camper
Lynn's camper tour was phenomenal. These are nice, too.
Glad you enjoyed Lynn's tour. Seeing her camper in person gave me such an appreciation for these bare bones trailers.
@PlayingwithSticks I appreciate so much how you give both sides to a trailer. Pros and Cons, thank you!
Glad to hear you are enjoying it. I appreciate the kind words.@@tialittle3898
It would cost less than $50 to insulate it.
Some of us like to boondock
@@Doc1855 I boondock as well! I never hook up. $50? Perhaps in materials (?) but I think that's an underestimation...it's mostly labor -- more time on each trailer creating that extra layer adds up in lower production yields.
@@doloresneilson5349 Not if the foam insulation is sprayed directly into the holes of the inner walls.
It would be like a commercial milking machine, only instead of sucking the milk, it’d be forcing it in.
Just my 2 cents.
I love these. Simplified and customizable. They really are awesome
Great video! I have seen Runaway Campers online but great to have a walk through and review. Always enjoy your pros / cons segment to your videos.
Good to hear plug for Runaway Camper
This is more in line with what we're talking about. Great value. Great versatility. Fiberglass even. Very cool. My main concern, after owning the SunRay, is I do like a little more height on the interior. Turns out I'm a little more claustrophobic than I thought. But, I think I would actually buy one of these. I like the materials and accessories a lot. You can get just about anything and everything on this at Home Depot, not Camping World. Very, very cool.
Check out the Rouser by Runaway, it's the 6x8 model, but its almost 6 foot tall.
i have been looking for a budget "camper" like this for years, for nothing else but to provide some type of respite when we get hurricanes here in Louisiana. and when you have thousands of people evacuating, you cant and wont always be able to find a hotel with rooms available. i understand the vast majority of people see this as a toy for random excursions to the outdoors, which i also enjoy, but i have other more pressing needs for one like this.
You know I couldn't resist mentioning the Road Toad in this video. Love the camper, love the builders! Safe travels to you as well.
I really does and it’s a significant increase in my experience from what the solid wood walls were.
And yes, good point on vent locations.
their mission statement makes me happy. God bless Drew
I'm right there with you! Blessings to you as well my friend.
This is a fantastic little trailer… but the more of these videos I watch, the happier I get with my Happier Camper!
That happier camper is pretty special
Wow..I'm shocked at the value proposition + standard A/C 👏😳👌
With the kids room on the roof.. I love it.
Another great informative video. Loved the "do what I want to do" attitude. If you are only a fair weather camper like myself, these are fantastic.
I rewatch and learn something new once again. Thanks
That is SUCH a great trailer. I love the XS
The XS has been such a blast, definitely my current favorite but I might be a bit partial. lol
Thank you for sharing this. Out of curiosity what is it about the stand up version that has you wanting to go back to the stardard height model?
"I'd give about anything to have my RR back..." It is just going to be about 80 $100.00 bills plus maybe a few more if you want any add ons. 😃😃
@@garretlewis4103 I know...I only paid 6k for mine brand new so I doubt I'll get another one. But it was a cool little camper when I had it.
Well this just made my short list. Simplistic and with a realistic price. All the others make what should be standard, optional. Having things like doors and windows standard help increase productivity and I am sure that is one of the ways they keep cost down.
Good review 👍
Looks like reasonable quality for the price in today's market. I dont see myself getting a small camper like this as they dont tick all the boxes but I would recommend it. We have a Canadian company "The Teardrop Trailer" in New Brunswick" and they are not barely competing in this price range for a wood camper in CDN$
What we need is a manufacturer to step up and produce a one piece insulated for this price, I dont see it happening as I dont think the market demand is there, or is it one of those situations "build it and they will come,,,,buy" 🤣
Cheers
Not quite the $5900 rig in the thumbnail. It starts at $12k.
Love the composite walls! Just need a cargo conversion of this with a forward half shower and cartridge style toilet.
Nice trailer!!
Those pics of different owners interior design were amazing and really made it look cozy!
I’d love to see Aegis Adventure Tops products (roof top campers) in this kind of trailers - I believe it will be the great match in terms of principles and materials.
Great video as usual, amigo!
Looks like Aegis uses the exact same materials. Maybe a tad thicker though. Glad you enjoyed the video my friend!
Absolutely love my Runaway Rangerunner.
Thanks for sharing!
Thank you for your video, the trailer called rouser still cost $9220, from its spec I found it is just a 6x8 boxy container with doors. - Interior: 70.5"W x 94.5"L x 5'6"-5,10"H
- Overall Dimensions 11'4"L x 7'3"H x 94" that's like $CAD 12000, or just say USD$9000, still quite a bit of money for what it is.
Although we are not in the 2 trailer camp. I get where you are coming from.
While I am in the camp, I so badly want out! Haha. That is why we were working with Charles on our 2 camper exit plan. @@garretlewis4103
Now this is refreshing a affordable worthwhile trainer. Ive got to get one.
My Mom an Dad live right behind them an a high school friend has owned one for Years
I love the video content, and always take the guess work out by asking the detailed questions and listing pros & cons of each camper. Which is much appreciated, and the price points as thats always a factor too. Keep up the good work and stay safe! 💙
In our area it’s the law that we have to have a camping trailer with solid sides. No Canvas or material which can be penetrated by Bears
Because surely a bear couldn’t rip through aluminum, fiberglass or composites🙄.
@@MIAMIC70 It’s the law.
@@Doc1855I guess just have to make sure the bears know.
@@garretlewis4103 And a lot of rtt's have insulation packages. But I'm only interested in the wedge style for quick setup.
Love this! Price isn't ridiculous either...
Awesome. Would love to display one at camp. I'm at buckeye reservoir in Colorado about an hour outside Moab. Rimrocker trail
ARGH.... drew... look up the Tribe Trailers Expedition 500 - out door kitchen but you have pass through access to the fridge if you need it... have a 2nd small kitchen and prep area inside, so if you need to make a quick coffee or cook in bad weather, you can. it fits into a garage... has a huge battery pack and electrical system thats easy to access maintain, upgrade or repair. Has a large propane storage area. Has... diesel heater!.
I swear its like everything we've talked about.
Hope there is a cover for the A/C. 70 MPH in a down pour should flood it.
Good to see you again, Drew 😊
Same to you my friend! It is always fun waking up and seeing you as the first post.
@@PlayingwithSticks Thanks 😊
Is this something that RunAway Campers would build, or, should I just make it up myself?
nice and beefy and should last for a long time. love quality products.
This is cool. Weight, you can outfit to what you like. Carry my lightweight Honda dirt bike on the back of the trailer. !!!!😊
And I really like the rooftop tent
Yea, if you’re rich…
Gotta check this out for myself.
You really should!
I’ve thought about getting a pop up camper for my truck and getting a basic Runaway to haul bicycles and kayaks and other gear.
@@PlayingwithSticks I do have a chubby Golden Retriever who prefers air conditioning! 😂
I think you can get the rouser with a fold down ramp rear door. I will ask because I want to take our 2scooters with us camping
@@conniewaite1371 thanks but I’ve never seen a rear door on one but I don’t want a tall one. It’s too much drag and hard to use roof rack.
@@tonyalewis9053 I asked, they said no.and a wee roll cargo trailer has 1 but cost about 17,000. But intec had one with flip out sides for sleeping and a pullout kitchen for the same price.they are well made
I follow your channel becausse I have a Suburu crosstrek and will be wanting a trailer like this that doesn't weigh a ton.
Really good review, my motto is "Less is more", I was lucky to find a similar type of camper weighing 500 lbs and I wanna discover the world with it if that make sense...
What did you find for 500lbs? I would love to hear.
I need something like that for camping. I been doing camping videos on my channel. Thanks for the great video
I really like these! Now I have to figure out if a Nissan NV 200 van could pull one of these. Thanks!
afforable base model....but 11lb mounted tank $250? Is it made of adamantium or something? 2 gal plastic jug $120? Bottle of beer $540? lol
Their aluminum road showers are like around $400. For 7 gallons. BUT I found mine in plastic on Amazon for $120. at 8 gallons...
Yeah their options are a little nuts XD
Adamantium to keep the budget down as Promethium,Nth Metal and Vibranium are all too expensive.
I need one 6’ x12’ can you guys do special build and how much?
We don't do any special builds but once upon a time we built a model called the Wave that exact size. We are building a new facility that might make bring that model back. Keep your eyes on us, might be seeing some info on that this fall if all goes to plan.
Runaway and Hicker are probably going to do it for me someday Don’t you wanna Runaway check
Runaway REALLY needs to fix their website. It SUCKS!!! It’s not mobile device friendly. That was a standard website feature years ago.
How about adding dimensions, weights and updating with all available options 🙄
Im literally working on that right now. Rebuilding from the ground up!
@@runawaycampers Do you have a list and cost of the new options? I’m looking to possibly pickup a Venturist.
Shoot sales an email with what you're looking for. I have a 6x8 rear door in production for inventory right now. Daniel will be able to give you the few new added options we've added and the prices.
@@MIAMIC70
@@runawaycampersCan you point me to exact specifications on your “solar option?” I now see it listed when you go to build trailer but there are literally ZERO specs for what you are actually buying. Same goes for several of the options. They are again listed under “accessories” but nothing except a a very small image and a price. How about specs, brand, etc…
I want one 6’ wide 6’ height and 12 feet long and the prices
TrailManor all the way !
You do such a good job hon. Cheers.
Great video of a great product made by some great people!
Glad you enjoyed it! You summed it up perfectly with great product made by some great people.
Wow! I am amazed at the price! It gets so discouraging out there
It does get discouraging, I agree.
What would it take to make the stabilizers levelers? Is it a frame issue and/or limited by the strength of the levelers?
I love my Range Runner! ❤
I bet you do. There are many days we miss our little simple 4x8.
Look into encore rog trailers. No complaints on mine and it's ts used full-time
I'd really like to find one of these pull behind campers that are disability friendly. An easy step in and height is so important to those if us who need that type of accommodation. I'd appreciate a video for those who are disabled. Thank you.
We just made a video on this subject not too long ago Small Camper, HUGE Potential!

Ok, this seems more up my alley. I just want something cheap enough, that I can handle wout my sons or husband, that can fit in the garage for occasional use.👍👍👍
There are a lot of solo females with Runaway campers.
Yes, and the beauty of this is that although cheap, it is not "cheap." Affordable yes, but they didn't cut any corners.
I have a Nissan rogue 4:58 4:58 tow capacity 1300 lb what unit do you recommend 4x8 ? Not going to go off-road
Looks well built and tough as well as water tight but how much because it's hard plastic can't be that much
First Like! Thank you for all you do for the travel trailer industry and let us know the best!
Sorry I didn't get to this like sooner! I decided to sleep in a bit this morning. Being on the other side of the world makes these video releases pretty early for us. Haha. Glad you are enjoying the videos. I am having a blast making them and getting to hear from all of you.
So glad you are doing well and enjoying doing your videos. No probs on your response!@@PlayingwithSticks
I would need the stand up model so I can have a compost comode. Being a senior, that is important.
Had a plastic toilet installed in mine. Made my own plumbing with plastic tubes from home Depot and Amazon+shower+sink
Did it myself with UA-cam how-to videos.
Cool trailer!
@ 2:16 Is that rust I see at the top middle part of the screen?
If it’s on the frame, probably. Most of the campers on this channel if using a traditional steel frame, will have some amount of rust.
