Guides? Been fishing the North fork, middle and south fork of the American river for 40 years climbed down to every little fishing hole great fun. The family Fly fished the North, middle and south fork of the Yuba since the 1860's. My father went to placer high in Auburn California the 1950's shot down the tunnel on the middle fork of the American with two friends in a regular little fishing boat and one of them did not make it. My grandfather mainly fished the North fork of the Yuba river mainly because he was born on that river and occasionally guided professional baseball players down the middle fork of the Yuba river down a path called the Lilliput trail. Monster browns were in the middle fork but it is a rough hike! My grandfather would turn over in his grave if any of us ever used a guide to fish these rivers!
Been looking at the topographic maps to hike in for 40 years. Haven't done it. Old man now. 2000 feet is a bit much.Great Video. Magnificent brown trout.
Hey old man lol if you ever think about that hike in you get a hold of me asap.im a very level headed mtn goat been chasing stripers in Pacifica on the rocks and swimming to places for years not many would go.Turnin 50 this year so im still a mid timer but I still have the stamina and the gumption
In addition to browns there's big rainbows. My pb was a 5lb rainbow near oxbow. Watch out for private property and bears! Also there's these tiny flies that try to go in your eyes.
Stud rowing on the sticks! You guys are legit! I’ve been rowing driftboats and air pumas since I was a boy, not much I wouldn’t float but Rucka looks fucking hairy! Making upper Sol Duc, Upper Skykomish, and upper Elwah look like a cake walk. Much respect and great video. My brother and I have been seriously thinking about running that drift, you’ve inspired me.
That water is way too big for my tastes. I prefer the Mammoth/June Lake area. I always waited at least a month after opening day and the pressure never hindered MY productivity in the slightest. Never got the Owens figured out. Even tried bait in desperation at one point. In my teens I caught a couple of stockers below the damn on the Kern, using some type of bait or another, but other than that one time, skunk city. I do fine on it's feeder creeks and streams, and up into the wilderness area, but nothing on the Kern itself...Either fork LoL.
My folks have a cabin in the Sierra Foothills, I'm kinda interested on where this is at. That and if it's anywhere near our cabin. The Feather river is pretty much in the back yard. I showed this video to my Pops which is a huge Fly Fisherman. Let me know where this is at!
Trust me those fish get plenty to eat I usually catch and release but every trout I have kept from that river their stomachs were bursting with food mostly midge and mayfly larvae with some stonefly larvae and some terrestrials like grasshoppers, wasps lady bugs and one time a stink bug I guess trout don't care.
grady is one cool dude.taught me so much about fly fishing in my short time staying near him.dudes a legend
Grady is one of the finest guides available on this river, don't pass up an opportunity to fish with him !

Kill the freaking music!
Why are the fish so skinny ? They look really unhealthy
River fish are shaped like torpedoes because of the current they live in
