For my money, I would gladly pay more for something that requires less maintenance, rather than the opposite! Finding that “sweet spot” is essential. It should be stylish and well made enough, yet not require super high maintenance.
Not all expensive trousers are high maintenance though. I have a pair of Acronym P10's which I wear regularly but as the materials they use are usually highly water and abrasion resistant, plus also having super high build quality, they always look practically new after a wash. Granted, not everyone is into that kind of technical aesthetic but they also have quite a few flexible items in their roster, that can let themselves to a number of different fit styles.
Ok have to say only 30 seconds in and the production of outside filming looks great! I know it's not always the easiest but really started this video off well!
Great video, thought about this myself with purchasing FOG Mainline items on sale ($238 vs $795 for cargos) vs affordable alternatives that make more sense for most people's closets/wallets. Buying a higher quality/designed item like you showed may flow/drape better and when cared for well, gives you more value over time and per wear. However, people have to decide if the affordable aesthetic makes more sense right now for them as they fund other things beyond their dream wardrobe, or if they are willing to save up for those higher cost pieces they're willing to take care of so they last and complement their dream look each wear.
Those draw strings are a savior, help tighten things up a bit if it's a bit loose. Also if you fluctuate between weights like I have, it's a neato feature.
great timing I was looking for a video like this. because of you I've been eyeing to get my first pleated wide trousers as all my pants currently are tapered (jeans, cargos, joggers). I personally like the olive clothing one the most as i like the cut but the uniqlo one would probably be a good start for me xD
I own a pair of issey pleats, I've accidentally slept in them a few times and the pleating does flatten out but not drastically. The butt and knees area do feel more flatten but it still looks nicely pleated. So I don't think you always have to baby the pleats, they're still very nice pants that can be worn for long durations.
500 bucks for some trousers. Nah I would use that money on top or outwear or even shoes and buy regular pants. No one's gonna know they are 500 bucks or 50 bucks.
This is the motivation I needed for 2023. I had stitched 105 jackets in between 4 years of procrastinating on starting a youtube channel.on men's African-inspired fashion This year I am determined,. Thanks, Tim I have watched you for years.
JT. Man, this Video is a Tour De Force 💥😎 re: Subject, Presentation, Content, Photography, Pacing, Location Filming, etc. -- All Top Quality -- in fact, I feel that it is a better Video, than I have seen from some of your previously Stated Favorite Peers -- Dude, I feel like a Proud Parent. !!!!! 💥💥💥💥💥. I prefer the H&M & Uniqlo pants -- I don't want to spend $500 & apply that much effort to maintain, however, the IM pants truly look DOPE !
I’m in the process of planning a haul of trousers from Olive Clothing, so would absolutely LOVE to see a video on these. Specifically, how they fit given that most are one size/length and I’m similar in height and build to you (5’7”). Keep up the great work Johnny 🙌
Uniqlo is timeless. Uniqlo drawstrings on those smart trousers are good. It means I don't need to use a belt (clean look). Belts can sometimes ruin a fit. I'm in between medium and small so I buy medium. Olive looks cool but that brand is not available in my country. Maybe COS is equivalent to Olive here. That Issey Miyake needs too much care. LOL! I have my eyes on my first $$$$ Yohji Yamamoto pants. Fit #1 Olive. The shape stands out since you just wore a simple t-shirt. Fit #2 Uniqlo. Contrasting proportions to your wide shirt. Fit #3. (sad to say) H&M .The long coat overpowers the interesting shapes of Olive and Miyake. Uniqlo, Olive, Issey Miyake are cropped pants so longer pants seem to give a more balanced look. Fit #4. Olive or Miyake. A wide shape goes well with the boots you are wearing.
Definitely the Homme Plisse, it’s the most versatile and most unique, two good reasons it is the best out of all three. Sure everything beautiful needs care, whether it’s a garden or any equipment, I personally don’t make a decision to owe something just because it needs care particularly if it is a good product.
I just bought some enfin leve aietes for 495€ and i gotta say, best pants i own outside acronym so yeah sometimes the more you pay the better stuff you get. I judge my clothes really hard since materials and stitching is really important to me next to design.
My problem with pants as a larger guy, is finding pants that are high waisted, have room in the thigh, but aren't super baggy in the bottom leg. It feels impossible to find a pair like this. I can never find anything with enough thigh room to be comfortable enough for me to want to buy. I've found a few pairs of womens pants that are high waisted and have room in the thigh... but being almost 6ft, they never go down far enough and show more skin than I'd like, personally. If you have any recommendations for pants that do have thigh room and are high-waisted, I would love to hear about it because so far, no luck!
You could try drop crotch pants. As a big buy myself I love them. Since the crotch is so low it allows you to pull them basicsally as high as you'd like, not only that but they allow you to really mess with the proportions of your fit and silhouette
have you looked the levis 541 i think its a athletic fit with a taper at the bottom or the 551z which is a 501 except bagger. Also the levi apps runs 50 + 20% off all the time so you can aquire some for around 15-30 bucks when they on average are 90
Appreciate the replies, guys. I'd go for Levi's if I knew they'd fit, but, as I said, it's a thigh room problem. I'll look into drop crotch and see if that can help solve my problem, thanks for the idea. And yeah, I'll probably have to bite the bullet and go to a tailor, but here's hoping I can find a more inexpensive option!
Teslas? Good quality? Did I step into a bizarro dimension? Comparison aside, I see the value of $500 pants with an iconic design like that but it seems like too much for something I would be afraid to wear outside unless the weather is perfect and I'm not doing anything that might get them dirty or damaged. I'd rather spend that kind of money on jackets, knitwear or coats. I have a few pairs of trousers from Olive or other brands that cost a bit more, but 9/10 no one I know is going to notice the difference.
I've got a few homme plisse pants and tops. I never baby them. I wear them a lot too as they are my go-to during summer (super breathable) and I definitely don't wash after every wear. More durable than they get credit for.
The olive trousers are a great compromise between both and for a reasonable price! The ones from ssense are a bit much and very impractical in terms of wearability and if ever something happens you lost 500$
Hey man the filter you used to compare each pair of pants, especially when all the pants are black. It is really hard to see the details and tells them apart, creating wrong perceptions of the garments. imo.
i feel like the quality of the 500 dollar one is definitely better but not 5x the price of the olive pants. with issey miyake and other designer brands you are paying for the name…
No. It is NEVER worth spending that much on any piece of clothing. The only way people should be spending this much on clothing is if they earn a shit ton and have liquid savings/emergency funds ready in the bank.
for people needed a quick answer of course spending 500$ on a product you will probably not wear more than a year or to is not worth it. wake up people
I dont have to watch the video to know that the answer is NO. You probably can get something similar for five times less. Even if you make 200k a year, its just a waste of money. Better invest them or something lol
What is your pick? Do you think the Issey Miyake trousers are worth it? If you haven't already, follow me on Instagram: bit.ly/JohnnyInsta 🙏
i agree the uniqlo and issey miyake trousers are the best . another banger vid🔥
Hands down the homme plisses
Got 2 pairs in to start with
Now I got 4 pairs in rotation
For my money, I would gladly pay more for something that requires less maintenance, rather than the opposite!

That’s the reason I’ve been digging Carhartt WIP lately.

Yeah, IS is just covering their butt when it comes to consumer lawsuits. Extreme care instructions reduce the designer’s liability
I’ve had a similar experience so far. Thanks for your insight!
500 bucks for some trousers. Nah I would use that money on top or outwear or even shoes and buy regular pants. No one's gonna know they are 500 bucks or 50 bucks.
@@latenotice7254 there are better options out there then these I feel. Why would you pay 500 and then worry about the quality.
@@latenotice7254theres a difference between appreciating it and then having the luxury to even consider buying it
Honestly the zara pleated trousers I got from like one or two seasons ago does the job and I don’t have to baby them

@@FlyWithJohnnyThai totally agree.
The uniqlo and issey miyake are dope

Once you hit $150 on any clothing item you run into exponentially diminishing returns.
Those Essey Miyake trousers look sick
Man you have the best fits!
My favorites... tier 2, so far.
dope video love the vlog style of content from u
wheres the jacket at 6:18 from?

Dnt know but liked the hnm one
Great video, background was gorgeous
drawstrings on these kind of pants are for people who are in between sizes like me who want a "no belt look".
great video! makes for a nice template
Are there any similar brands to oliveclothing that's based in US? Their shipping is a little expensive
Is there really no cheaper alternative to the Issey Miyake pants? I do quite like them, but they are far out of my budget.
Only got one pants. Uniqlo ultra light and got many colors

bro u might be the only person I know who uses a metro card when using the subway lmao
Buy 3 pair of pants for 150 each. Will last for a year or more. Go minimalist, will save time, money and headaches.

Was just thinking about picking up a pair bc of SSENSE sale 😂
Okay so I'm not the only one who overpaid for Issey pants 😭
Now I feel better that I'm not the only one too 🙏😅
Hey, can you share the link of the olive clothing trousers? I can't find the exact same ones. Thanks!
Yeah haven't been able to find it myself either
They unfortunately sold out of them. They’ve done several restocks though!
Olive doesn't carry those wide fitting tapered trousers anymore huh? the pleat is hella nice :(
