OK. I'm a 73 year old bored retired guy with arthritis. So I got my Baritone Ukulele two months ago. I am really struggling with bending the middle and ring finger knuckles to fret vertically. After practicing all this time I finally mastered (well almost!) my first tune that you showed here. Now I'd like to try that reverse picking thing you showed here. I'll get back to you in a couple of months, 'cause that is how long it will take me to get this next phase down. My wife keeps closing the practice room door, but I'm having fun!

      SternDrive,
Another 73-year-old bored retired guy with (osteo)arthritis in my left (fretting) hand. I too have limited “flex” in my ring and pinky (not middle) fingers so after 45 years of playing - amongst other things - the 6 string guitar, I bought a baritone ukulele today for the narrower fingerboard, shorter scale, and only 4 strings. (I tried a tenor uke, but the fingerboard was *too* narrow and the scale *too* short.) It’s so nice to read of your progress … many thanks for the encouragement! 👍🏻

Thanks for this. Your enthusiasm for sharing your knowledge and passion for music is greatly appreciated.
As a kid, I had forced music lessons and quit several different instruments, but I always loved music. As an adult, I’ve been making an effort to learn to play something. I picked up a uke a couple years ago and have been making progress. I just made a second purchase a month ago of a baritone Uke. I love the sound. It feels much like a guitar sound, but simpler with just the four strings.
There isn’t nearly as much baritone uke instructional videos, so what you provide here is really helpful. I think you have me finally inspired enough to make a financial commitment to join, which is saying a lot because hey, we all know that people have just come to expect all this for free on the internet. I’m as much of a cheap bastard as the next guy sometimes, but I think if you really find value in something, it actually means more if you pay.
See you on Uke Like The Pros.

Wow, this is a great discipline. I'm using it to re-wire my brain. I have been a guitarist since, like 1970. I bought a tenor uke a while back, but I hadn't yet achieved my goal of mastering it. Then I got a Baritone! ( A Kala Big Earl from your store on "Black Friday"!) It's been like a light has been turned on in my head. My old music student brain has recognized the wisdom of this method. I can see how one particular finger on one particular string can be very effective. I know there are countless ways to fingerpick but over the next week or so, I'm gonna concentrate on this until it's almost 2nd nature! There are all kinds of exercised to do like thumb -ring, thumb- middle, etc; but I see the value of this. Both with chord progressions and scales. I know I'm sounding like the child who has seen the 1st sunrise but, forgive me, this is blowing my mind. It's a break-through! My "Winter Project" is to master the ukulele. When I discover something on the baritone, I flip back to my tenor & apply it, but thanks to you, I'm a Baritone Guy now. I'll keep you posted on the progress. Thanks, Man!

    Hi Terry,
Firstly, gotta say, your videos are TOP DRAWER!
I am an average guitarist of some 60+ years and approx 2 years with the uke.
Whilst I love playing the uke I am getting more and more drawn to the Baritone Uke because of its deeper sound.
My guitar is a 12 string acoustic which has been with me for most of my playing life and I love the sound.
Long drawn out way to ask your advice:
    Would you recommend the baritone?
Would I be right to go for an 8 string version?
Lastly, what model wold you suggest?
Keep up the great work, as I am finding out, you’re NEVER to old to learn new things in the music world!
Great videos Terry, great teacher and superb motivator.
    Kind;d regards

Hi Terry. Very useful tips, cool! May I ask what is the exact Kanilea Baritone model you are playing in this video? What acoustic pickup is installed in it? Do you sell all these (baritone + pickup) in your store? I am interested. Thank you in advance.
