This was simultaneously the best and the worst scene in the movie. You have this _awesome_ battle scene with two savage colossi slugging it out against each other on the ground while two impossible agile giant flyers duke it out in the air, glorious mayhem everywhere... and it keeps cutting away from that to a couple of annoying prats looking for their dumb daughter.
@Gabe Stein Don't patronise me, buddy. Yeah, humans have been involved in monster movie plots ever since the 50s (or longer if you go back to King Kong) but usually they're actually involved in the actual monster plot, like Miki Saegusa from the Heisei era Godzilla, or hell, like Serizawa in this one. They're not just there for some completely irrelevant "human interest" bullshit that only serves to cut away from the action whenever it threatens to get too stimulating. And when they were, it was just as fucking annoying then too. I loved this movie, and I loved most of this scene- but I loved them _despite_ the stupid family bullshit, not because of it.
I agree completely. The Monsters were excellent but the human characters in this movie were horrible (especially the "Russell" family: mother, father, & daughter)
It’s a monster movie. Focus on the monsters, not the meddling humans who ruin the monsters’ world and take away from the plot. The only human that’s actually done anything in this movie is Serizawa, who was the only one ready and willing to make a sacrifice for the greater good of the planet and not just the humans
Also can I just say Ghidorah is a little prick and cheater, being all extraterrestrial and omnipotent and all that crap. Can’t handle compressed radiation and energy but can survive when all the oxygen in and around is completely obliterated. 😤 get that outta here
0:50 You could see how smart Ghidorah is Ghidorah saw Godzilla reflection but did not attack the building with Godzilla reflection like most animal would, instead he understand the building was just reflecting Godzilla and know Godzilla was behind him so he turn and face him
2:22 to 2:55 is one of my favorite sequences in the Monsterverse. It places us in the shoes of a Kaiju attack survivor, witnessing the chaos as the monsters battle. And it also contains my 2nd favorite shot in this movie: 2:35 when Mothra pummels Rodan to the ground, and Rodan emerges from the flames. (my favorite is Godzilla finally earning the title of King of the Monsters at the end of the film.)
They really couldn't have done a better job with the effects and the way they handled the monsters in this movie. This is exactly what my mind's eye used to envision when I would watch the old Godzilla movies as a child. It was never just a guy in a suit in my mind. haha. This is how I always wanted to see these movies.
I agree love the realistic of the monsters, yes I loved the og Godzilla monsters but these monsters are realistic and they act like animals like animal behavior like of they’re threatened Godzilla glows his spikes, Mithras roars in angry with angry eyes, and king ghidorah rises up to act bigger just like a king cobra which fits him perfectly
That music when Mothra is about to show up. It's magical. I can't even describe it. I can say that Godzilla: King of the Monsters was well worth the wait.
The way his eyes fucking widened the second he saw the electricity Ghidorah was snacking on was beautiful. He knew in that instant that the fight was going to be a hell of a lot harder
Seriously when Rodan showed up and attacked Mothra my heart sank. In the cinema I almost shouted "No!" I hoped against hope that he'd do a face turn in the fight and we'd get the 3 vs 1 we had in Ghidorah the Three Headed Monster again. I do not hate the decision to make it a 2 v 2, Rodan is just a favorite of mine and I wanted my boy to be a good guy again.
@@CellBallin24I’m pretty sure ghidorah’s and rodan’s fight was a way to show how powerful ghidorah actually is and also to show us that it can basically force a titan under its thumb
Yeah, you're right. Like, come on! This was supposed to be a Remake of "Ghidorah, the Three-Headed Monster" and this is the ONLY thing I hated but I still love the movie, no lie.
The only human that I wanted more of was the character of Charles Dance.... Everyone else, especially the mother and daughter, I was wanting dead... Instead they all get more Plot Armour than Goku.
One thing I think this movie did right was how it would actually feel like to be near an actual monster fight happening. Hearing the loud stomping and crashing of buildings and seeing how panicked the girl was felt incredibly real. Especially when watching this in theaters it almost felt like you were there. I know people like to shit on the girl actress but if you just take everything away from here character and just focus on that one scene where she's in the house just screaming in terror, it's a really incredible and tense scene which you can feel empathy for her and relate to how you would probably act the same.
That’s fine and all, but at least show us more of the Kaiju fighting as well. The human stuff in between is fine but it felt like that took longer than the actual fight scenes themselves.
@@musicimpact7120 I’m not talking about the amount they showed I meant the cgi. They really showed how realistically slow the monsters should be as to where they got godzilla running in these latest movies and again the cgi was well done even though it was a shortened time but that’s what made it good they put more time into how they (2014) should really look and move rather than more monster scenes. Mothra is the Queen and an alpha. It's simple. She does not submit to the will of any other, as much as she is sympathetic to Godzilla and he to her, they share the post. However, there is something about her that stands out, which is a symbiotic relationship with Godzilla and also this kind of spiritual aura that she has.
Nah bruh. She down bad for Godzilla's rizzz. As much as she is the queen, she knows her place is not at level with Godzilla. No one is. He's the undisputed ruler.
@@yougood809 and yet Mothra has fought and defeated him several times. Even though it has happened in Toho movies but it doesn't matter bc we talk about Mothra. She might not be at the same level as Godzilla but she has an unique relationship with him which is more important than being an "undisputed ruler"
That's one of the things I really appreciate about this movie - it really shows the sheer scale of destruction that can occur just from having Titans fight. When Titans clash, the area becomes Hell on Earth, hostile to human life and everyone needs to gtfo or die. Monarch is humanity's desperate attempt to stay relevant in this era of Titans as they start to awaken - because no matter who wins, humans lose.
Still can't get over how much I loved this movie, my girlfriend who's never seen a Kaiju movie cried with Mothras sacrifice, and the call backs with the music? Just amazing.

@King Nemesis I mean, ghidorahs head was completely separated from his disintegrated body, and yet was still alive. The two of them were so evenly matched, mad respect for all four of these characters, especially mothra, I really wish her and Rodan got their own movies but this was awesome
"evenly matched" lol sure. Ghidorah did literally nothing to Godzilla the entire film until he dropped him and relied on physics to do it for because he was too weak to damage Godzilla himself. He lost every single fight they had. Godzilla pulled his limbs off. There's no human on Earth you can do that to or can do that to you because the difference in strength required is asinine. You can't even do that to an infant. Meaning the strength difference between Godzilla and Ghidorah is greater than a grown man and an infant, let that sink in. Monsterverse ghidorah is bottom tier garbage. Ghidorah did nothing to Godzilla in Antarctica then got scared by missiles (which is pathetic for a kaiju btw) and then retreated. Retreating is never a victory, especially after doing nothing besides harmlessly pushing Godzilla over. There are many people that can't fathom how ghidorah lost this so I'll explain a bit more. *If one party retreats, the other objectively wins* •If this was a UFC fight, ghidorah dealt no damage then jumped out of the ring, and lost not only the round, but the entire match. •If this was a battle at war (a much closer analogy) and you retreat, you lost the battle, there are countless examples of this. •If a bully attacks you at school and you manage to push him over and run away, you didn't win...you just escaped. The second fight truly shows us how inferior ghidorah is to Godzilla, when they have Godzilla pull ghidorah apart like a dandelion. Imagine pulling another person's head off. You can't, no matter what you do.... it's impossible. This is like a large bear vs a man.... That's how large the strength gap is. Also saying that the fight being underwater made it unfair is a pitiful excuse. Being in water didn't make Godzilla stronger nor did it make Ghidorah less durable, being in water doesn't somehow make ghidorah easier to pull apart. If they fought mid air, ghidorah still wouldn't be strong enough to rip Godzillas head off. The arena has no impact on how strong you are. The 3rd fight Godzilla is curbstomping ghidorah as usual until ghidorah gets enough plot armour to *somehow* choke godzilla out with the same head that he casually plucked off in the last fight with half the leverage he has now. Realistically, all Godzilla would have to do there was push against his body to tear through considering he already did that but now he's stronger from the nuke and in more of an optimal scenario to do so.... *But the plot wouldn't let him* That was inconvenient for the movie, we wouldn't have gotten our burning Godzilla fan service. Contrivances aside... A nameless extra has a better chance of beating John Wick than ghidorah had beating Godzilla based on what was shown. *John would have to be both completely bullet proof and strong enough to pull the other guy to pieces, just to make it a 1-1 analogy*
@@justarandomhomosapienhere7169 Well the water setting it does make it unfair. You do not need to have a strength increase to make a fight unfair. Ghidorah is a big ass flying kaiju that can do jackshit in the water. Godzilla meanwhile moves like a damn eel in the water in comparison. Of COURSE one will have an incredible mobility advantage. The arena does in fact not decide strength, but it can certainly decide the results of the fight. Also the military got involved in the first fight so it wasn't really Godzilla making him retreat. It's the fact that he has to face more than one party.
@@Ryan-nh5kw mobility doesn't keep your head on any better. He's weak. Imagine fighting someone that can just grab you and pluck your limbs off. Would you call that a fair fight? This is like a large bear vs a man...that's how large the strength gap is. "Also the military got involved in the first fight" A real kaiju has absolutely zero place getting getting scared enough by missiles to run away like a girl. That's the 1998 Zilla kind of pathetic. So mentioning that doesn't exactly help your case, here. Idk why these ghidorah fans always mention the military as if that's a valid excuse as to why Ghidorah left lol.

ArcaneAzmadi precisely

I know people like to shit on the girl actress but if you just take everything away from here character and just focus on that one scene where she's in the house just screaming in terror, it's a really incredible and tense scene which you can feel empathy for her and relate to how you would probably act the same.

Mothra at the end: “It’s ok, baby. You just take a sec to heal up and then kick his ass…”
Yeah, I though they both had their own movies WAAAAY back in the day
That's shows and heisei era of JP not current monsterverse
*If one party retreats, the other objectively wins*
•If this was a UFC fight, ghidorah dealt no damage then jumped out of the ring, and lost not only the round, but the entire match.
*But the plot wouldn't let him*
That was inconvenient for the movie, we wouldn't have gotten our burning Godzilla fan service.
"Also the military got involved in the first fight"
A real kaiju has absolutely zero place getting getting scared enough by missiles to run away like a girl. That's the 1998 Zilla kind of pathetic.

I thought Mothra had killed his ass
@Anthony Mcgee Killed Ghidorah? Well, she wanted to make an alien reptile sushi out of him, until Rodan interrupted her.
@@markopujic660 that's true
@@markopujic660 i was hoping that she would
@@anthonymcgee2776 she could kill if she wasn't interrupted by Rodan

@@ironspiderman17a36 some of the monsters are related to transformers in the monsterverse for example Godzilla:Optimus prime
Ghidorah:Megatron
Mechagodzilla:Galvatron

Mothra:"Hey i glued Ghidora to that building"
Godzilla: "What building?"
@Alien GD YT ok
It’s a shame they made Mothra so weak in a physical sense. On an emotional scale, Mothra got me crying 😢 such love for her Alpha Godzilla.
Mother wasn’t weak she was able to hold her own against rodan and even stab rodan
Dont worry she is immortal she'll comeback
I think she was mostly trying to dissuade Rodan from fighting her. In fact her stinger attack was meant to incapacitate him
Well, she´s a newborn. Mothra´s body is about the size of a blue whale, while Godzilla´s almost the size of an aircraft carrier in this incarnation.
she never stood a chance against ghidorah >:D
I loved the little details of facial expressions for Godzilla, like when he sees ghidorah charging up he’s like, oh shit
