Mind Flayers are the Team Rocket of the Forgotten Realms. They come in, make things uncomfortable for a while, then go blasting off again.

Crenshinibon was actually introduced in the first Drizzt book. It was published in 1988. 3 years wasn't long enough for the Cinnabon name to have spread very far yet.

Shared this episode with my husband, who is a huge Salvatore fan. This is what I texted him: "The episode in which my guys butcher every single name RA Salvatore ever wrote for the Drizzt novels" rofl! Great episode no matter how everything is pronounced, you guys kill it as usual

The word "crenshinibon" just makes me think of the 'universal greeting' from the original Transformers animated movie... "Bah Weet Grah Nah, Bah Weet, Nini Bahm" xD

The adventure with Belhifet and Yxunomei is from the Baldur's Gate spinoff game Icewind Dale (2000). In that game, unlike Baldur's Gate, you can create any party of 6 you want from the start. Thus no declaration of who they were or where they came from or even their name. I haven't gotten to play BG3 yet, but it's my favorite DnD videogame.

Long time fan of the show, just finished the Cinnabon episode on spotify today and finally decided to also sub on youtube for all the video content as well. Y'all got me started learning how to DM and I'm currently running a Curse of Strahd campaign for my players (with just a couple of homebrew liberties they don't know about yet) Love all the hard work you guys do to keep this show running, and of course, I have been looking forward to the release of your book. Shoutout to Demogorgon!

If your getting into Ravenloft you may enjoy Hour of the Raven (channel here on UA-cam) has been doing a whole series on the different Ravenloft domains. Mostly focused on the older setting but he also covers the reboot every 4th episode.
For that matter if you like Curse of Strahd you should totally check out the classic Ravenloft setting. It's WAY more detailed and fleshed out than the reboot. IMHO it's by FAR the superior version.
(Hope it's ok to mention another channel. Dungeoncast is great but also cool to have more specific setting videos)

Came across this looking for background lore for my Rime of the Frostmaiden game, and I think there would be some really fun things you could do with that. And now I have 357 more episodes to check out, that's incredible.

    "How powerful is he?"
"Sir, he's at least as strong as Balor himself!"
"Dammit. Let's stop the Balor-class demon"
"We should definitely stop the demon as strong as Balor, first"
"Look guys, to save a little time on our six-seconds framed lives, I propose to call all of the demons this powerful Balors"
    "FINE"

I have read both series and I have them both ranked in my top 5.
Thanks for the excellent content guys!! Great job as usual!!

50:50 that doesn't sound quite right to me. Everything we've heard so far sounds too lawful to want chaos for the sake of it. At most, I'd say it's neutral because it wants power and control. Chaos for the sake of chaos undoes that.

I had a science teacher named Crenshaw, and I feel like if she was combined with a cinnabon, an evil crystal with a lust for power would be fairly accurate

I love listening and learng from yall. To help yall out a little on the Drizzt series which was one I've always wanted to read but don't have the attention spand to stay focused on I listen on Spotify "Drizzt Do'Urden, The Legend of Drizzt read by Russel Johnson. He posts a chapter on Saturdays. They're usually not too long (around 30ish 40ish minutes)and good for short drives to and from work. Im not trying to plug, but i was able to go through most of the books because of him. You guys do inspire me to one day host my own campaign in my own setting. Thank you both for all the knowledge. Also Praise Demogorgon!

Not to be a shill, but Curse of the Usurper sounds awesome. At the $70 tier, you get 3 hardcover books (900 pages) + PDF? Compare that to what WotC is offering for $60. This is why I'm trying to check out more 3rd party content. Wizards really needs to step up their game -plus there's still the whole being a shitty corporation.

To fill in the blank, Crenshinoban was quickly making Jarlaxle do foolish and greedy decisions in over-extending his company's (Bregan D'aerthe) reach.
The random Mind Flayer is the one that enabled Kimmodriel and Rai-Guy's takeover coup of Jarlaxle's Bregan D'aerthe. He gave them a lantern to disable the crystal's powers and helped them seek it. It turned out the mind flayer pitted the two drow against Jarlaxle to fascilitate the crystal's destruction at the hands of the dragon's breath, its only weakness, and was in Hephaestus' lair to ensure that it's done. He was burned by the dragon in the process.

Love the episode. Do check out “Legacy of the Crystal Shard” adventure. It is unbelievably great. It is set during the Sunderung and is basically the better version of Rime of the Frost Maiden. Mich text was basically copy pasted into the latter from LotCS. It features shards like in Rime, Akar Kessel etc. all of the Sundering adventures are great. The cone with so much background info and a whole booklet of fluff. They were system agnostic and there are stats for 3.5, 4 & 5 edition.

Re: it calling out to Ertu
It didn't stay with the dwarf for very long. The books go into it more but basically the Shard craves a worthy master. It can make due with a weak-minded one, who it will twist towards evil but it really wants to be owned by a Powerful Evil being who will use it's powers to advance some grand scheme.

    HUGE SPOILER ALERT
    ...
    ...
Okay, so the whole break down on Cadderly and the 'death' of the crystal shard is that the Ghost King was effectively immortal. Despite their best efforts the Companions couldn't slay him, so Cadderly sacrificed himself by channeling the power of Denier to trap the being between the realms of the living and the lands of the dead. The Scribe gifted Cadderly the power of one of his Chosen, enabling him to scribe a barrier in real time around the Ghost King. The trade off is Cadderly became what could be loosely considered the human equivalent of a baelnorn, bound eternally to the maintenance of the barrier and the guardianship of the planes from the power of the Crystal Shard.
