Baseball Hitting Mechanics | Swing Plane REVISITED (Pro Speed Baseball)
    Links in video:
Swing Plane Secret: • Baseball Hitting Mecha...
Bat Lag Video: • Increase Torque With M...
In this video we revisit the Popular Swing Plane Secret video, and go over one of the biggest questions:
If I take my hands directly to the ball, won't I just hit everything down into the ground?
Well, we answer that question and go over the correct, and specific, feeling you should have while taking your hands to the ball.
We also give you a great drill you can do to start taking your hands to the ball more efficiently, resulting in consistent, powerful strikes on the baseball!
I look forward to helping you improve your baseball in the future!

Thank you for all your videos, they are awesome. I watch your videos to get my 7 year old son's mechanics fixed and to get him to hit better and he has improved 3 fold. My son also watches your videos to keep the information fresh in his head before a practice meet or a game. Again, thank you so much.

+scimitar4211 You are most welcome! Thanks for taking the time to write such an awesome comment. This kind of stuff makes my day!
Really glad to hear your son is benefiting from the instruction. Tell him I said to keep working hard, but more importantly to keep working smart. Kudos to you guys for taking the time to research the mechanics and put them use!

another great video as usual, i would add that when a batter slots his elbow that his hands will rotate to a position where he can approach the ball in a more horizontal position so the timing of when you take your hands to the ball is critical as well. You have probably discussed this in a previous video but i thought i would mention it

+tom doran Hey Tom, thanks for the awesome comment!
You're most definitely correct on the elbow positioning and how it works to level the swing. I normally don't actively teach this, reason being, from experience I've noticed that drawing attention to the hitters elbows has an adverse affect more times than not.
A great fix to get this going correctly, is to put the focus in on the hands and get the hands working correctly. This will (most of the time) put the elbows in the desired position without having to think about it.
That being said, I have had rare cases where I've had to draw attention to elbows. The woes of being a good instructor, haha, have to be dynamic! Thanks again for the comment, and very nice observation! ~Michael Pro Speed Baseball

+tom doran what do you mean by "slots his elbow"?

    • @tomdoran7106
      @tomdoran7106 8 років тому

slotting the elbow is the natural position the elbow drops down by the side of the body. In reference to the video as one drops the elbow, the hands rotate which causes the bat head to drop. However, I feel a lot of young children lack muscular development and too many video games cause an inward roll of the shoulders. This causes a lot of problems where the elbow slots in the wrong position. Ideally front foot plants, hips start rotating then the elbow drops or another way of looking at it is as the batter rotates his/her body, the bat head drops, which causes the bat to stay tight to the side of the upper arm area

You're welcome! I understand and When I saw a video you just uploaded it I got excited because I learn perfect drills to change my swing and to get even better at bat. Thanks a lot . I will always support you and your UA-cam channel. I wish I could I have a coach like you. You're teaching is understandable to me.

Good video. I think another term to swinging horizontally with the hands vs swinging vertically would be to swing parallel with the incoming pitch. Tony Gwynn explains this very well in one of his videos on youtube.. Good stuff though man!

Very good video. Just two questions to make sure I understand it completely: When you say take your hands to the ball in a more horizontal plane as opposed to a more vertical plane in a sense the hands are not going directly to the ball but above the ball parallel to the flight path of the ball; is this correct? Then with the bat lag, the bat goes underneath your hands to strike the ball. If my assumption is correct, then one question that would come up is how far above the horizontal plane of the flight path of the ball is the optimal path of the hands. And since you would not have time to measure this while swinging the bat, how do you get a feel for getting the optimal horizontal path to the ball?

    • @ProSpeedBaseball
      @ProSpeedBaseball  8 років тому +1

Thanks, and thanks for the question!
The hand path is still directly to the ball (not above the ball). This video was made as a follow up video about the Swing Plane.
We received many questions along the lines of "won't you just hit the ball down into the ground?"
So by thinking taking your hands more horizontally to the ball, this will give a better visual for hitters to understand.
The hands still are going down and directly to the ball, just not as abruptly as some people perceived the "hands to ball" thought.
Hope this answers your question! If you have any other questions, just let us know!

I cant stop my 11 year old from dragging the bat through the zone w/o any whip because the back of his bottom hand is facing the pitcher as it comes through. Its almost like his bottom (left) hand is in a handshake position when coming through so he gets no snap and he is very frustrated by the lack of power. Any ideas how yo fix?

It's difficult to tell without seeing exactly what you're describing here... However, a lot of swing symptoms are alleviated by learning the core mechanics. The free membership at prospeedbaseball.com will go over the entire swing. Also, if it is bat drag, I would highly recommend the checking out the release videos on the channel. Hope this helps out! ~Michael Pro Speed Baseball

I've been fouling off a lot of good pitches lately. Pitches right down the middle as if on a tee. Is this probably a swing plane problem? (I think that I'm also guilty of gripping the bat too hard.)

Can I use horizontal and bat lag at the same time?

  • @jjpelayo54

I reviewed your video on Swing Plane and was confused by the REVISITED version. You originally promoted a 45 degree vertical swing in your original video and are now promoting a slighter more horizontal swing. Which one is it?

+Pro Speed Baseball I mean in regard to this video. My son needs to establish the lag to prevent cutting the zone in half.

The top and bottom hand will work together in the initiation of the swing. (end of the load)
The bottom hand will pull as the top hand pushes (more or less) and both wrists will push through (ulnar deviation) the release of the bat.
"Pulling" the bat through is simply a FEELING that some hitters get to initiate the swing.
My suggestion would be not to worry to much about "pulling" specifically and focus more on what the technique feels like to the player.
We have a great video on the UA-cam channel that explains this in more detail. It's called Dominate Mechanics with Technique then Feeling:

Hope this helps out! If you have any other questions or would like to discuss this further, just let us know!
