@Madamoizillion Just like dragonfruits there are a ton of prickly Pear varieties. Most will be superior in taste (intensity as well as complex flavors) to most dragonfruits. We have around 150ish varieties of dragonfruits and 4 different types of Prickly pear. Red, purple, orange and green. The green is my personal favorite. Purple is the most complex of the varieties I have tasted. Dragonfruits, Sugardragon, is my personal favorite followed by a few others like American Beauty. Palora, Desert king and one called purple Watermelon.
Pro-tip if you want to get rid of the spines if you happen to have a bunch of them get you a little fire going and slightly singe off the spines. We used to do it with the prickly pear cactus fruit and our charcoal grill
In south east asia - the red skinned dragon fruits are white flesh or pink flesh. Very sweet when ripe ( you eat them when the skin starts being a little brown). Size about 2 or 3 tennis balls. And you can get 3 large dragon fruit for about $3.45.
The seeds give you an explosive surprise...if you press it through a sieve, you can eat as much as you like. So yummy. Also you can torch the spikes off if you don't want to risk getting pierced.
I had that kind of surprise in Zambia. Everything my ancestors ate went through me. I felt violated, dejected and ready to eat my fingers but I needed them for the TP....
I only had the purple or red ones that are sour or mildly sweet. Would love to eat these. Also the laxative effect is only when you eat a ton of fruit. So having a few is perfectly fine.
Years ago I used to be able to buy frozen curuba pulp aka banana passion fruit pulp in my local grocery store. Now I can’t seem to find it anywhere. My mom really loves it which is what I’ve been trying to find it.
Last yr, I started growing dragonfruits from seed. So i have the pink and the yellow both growing. My plants are small still... only a year old. But im so excited for when they grow more and begin to fruit. Your cactus look so healthy. I hope mine grow big and lucious too.
I propagated this from seed. The stems of this plant are much thinner. I hv 4 pots planted with Ecuador Palora and am waiting for the next season. Yes, the fruit takes much longer to ripen.
It's also a laxative? I see that as an absolute win, it prevents you from over indulging and you have an exceedingly tasty way to alleviate a blockage or stay regular.

Yup don't eat 2 or 3 at a time 😂😂. I didn't know and found out the hard way. I buy these fresh in Colombia for $0.25 to $0.30 usd and they are amazing 😋
Love that you said "you can eat the seeds". I always worry when eating fruits I'm not familiar with 😅
i have always wanted to live sustainably, i love gardening but i have a worm phobia. just typing it gives me chills.
Wait, what?!
If you live in Cali, try planting prickly pear cactus, it is similar but by far more tasty.
All over the place in Texas. Tastes like bubblegum to me. I’ve seen people make jam out of them, looks pretty good haven’t tried it yet though
holy shit i didn't know the dervish delicacies were real
@@Madamoizilliondepends on the variety of the prickly pear. If you got some from the store chances are they didn't taste very sweet. The purple skinned ones are so good i only ever saw those kinds in people's yards.
@@zoommiesbay I like them best when they're orange or yellow. They taste so refreshing in that state.
Ate six in a row once, they were so delicious. I regret nothing.
You will be regretting something, just you wait 😂
Pro-tip if you want to get rid of the spines if you happen to have a bunch of them get you a little fire going and slightly singe off the spines. We used to do it with the prickly pear cactus fruit and our charcoal grill
Rolling them around on concrete with a broom works pretty good too
After tasting these, the reds are a waste of time LOL. Trader Joe’s sells them random thought the year for $1.99 or $3.49. They’re sooo good!!!!!
In south east asia - the red skinned dragon fruits are white flesh or pink flesh. Very sweet when ripe ( you eat them when the skin starts being a little brown). Size about 2 or 3 tennis balls. And you can get 3 large dragon fruit for about $3.45.
the price isn't random, trader joe is teaching you when it's in season
I waited 18 years to see such a video like this.
This man really left his phone in the chiller for a whole ass hour😩🥶🤧
Now that’s dedicated💯💰😎
The seeds give you an explosive surprise...if you press it through a sieve, you can eat as much as you like. So yummy. Also you can torch the spikes off if you don't want to risk getting pierced.
Yellow dragon fruit is do good. 😋
We learn EVERY day! This was an awesome agriculture lesson, Thank You! Enjoyed watching you enjoy the fruit, too! The fruit of your labour!🤭
Props to the cameraman who sat inside the refrigerator for an hour
I love this genre of joke. You can tell because I put a period at the end of my sentence instead of an excited exclamation mark!
I apologize for the random question, but I love your hat. Where did you get it?
It's from our seed company, www.botanicalinterests.com
@Epic Gardening Thanks! Tomorrow is my birthday and I just got myself a gift --- a hat and some seeds to start indoors.
I ate 3 of those yellow dragon fruits and let me tell you !!! That explosive surprise was definitely worth it. They’re so good and very sweet!!
I wish I had that last bit of advise earlier…
I had that kind of surprise in Zambia. Everything my ancestors ate went through me. I felt violated, dejected and ready to eat my fingers but I needed them for the TP....
My mom bought these and they were so good.
It's always best to eat fruit at room temp.
Nah, that one tastes better cold. In general I prefer very sweet fruits cold.
@@pepopipo974watermelon is so much better cold
75 days?! hahaha i dont think summer is that long in Canada
That's why it's from Ecuador 😅
It dosnt here in Montana either.
Should do well in South Florida.
If nothing else, our gardens teach us patience❤
As an Asian, I know that taste way too good😂
That looks delicious!!! I eat mine off my cactus but mine has red skin. This fruit has so many different vitamins and is so good for you ✨✨✨✨✨✨
I love that yellow dragonfruit. I tried it at Trader Joe’s a month ago and I’m sure it’s even better homegrown.
I only had the purple or red ones that are sour or mildly sweet. Would love to eat these. Also the laxative effect is only when you eat a ton of fruit. So having a few is perfectly fine.
Bountiful harvest
Years ago I used to be able to buy frozen curuba pulp aka banana passion fruit pulp in my local grocery store. Now I can’t seem to find it anywhere. My mom really loves it which is what I’ve been trying to find it.
This channel with a few more cats and flowers looks what I picture my heaven to look like 😻
👍 Wonderful Harvesting. Thank you very much for sharing your wonderful video
Beautiful fruit ❣️
I tried one recently they are so delicious and so much sweeter than the red variety (red with white inside)
Last yr, I started growing dragonfruits from seed.
So i have the pink and the yellow both growing. My plants are small still... only a year old. But im so excited for when they grow more and begin to fruit.
Your cactus look so healthy. I hope mine grow big and lucious too.
iv always thought the pink ones would make such a pretty icecream! (but seeded)
Video series on how to grow them indoors please.
I propagated this from seed. The stems of this plant are much thinner. I hv 4 pots planted with Ecuador Palora and am waiting for the next season. Yes, the fruit takes much longer to ripen.
I am at Dehradun in North India.
"Explosive surprise" ..... very convincing sounds like he got first hand experience
When I am at home I love to eat this fruit. Always exploded. Home sweet home. 😂❤
Dragonfruit is so good. That one looks even better
I’ve actually eaten this before and I agree with you bro and I love it
Hayes comet strain has been the sweetest I’ve grown and ate.
It's also a laxative? I see that as an absolute win, it prevents you from over indulging and you have an exceedingly tasty way to alleviate a blockage or stay regular.
I grew up eating these all the time and I live in Canada where those aren't always easy or cheap but are often worth it
I like that "explosive surprise".
i ate the red ones and not long after i freaked out in the bathroom because it's all purplish red. i thought my intestines were bleeding or something but nothing really hurt? soon i noticed it only happens whenever i eat red dragon fruits. thank god i didn't run to the hospital.
I never knew that those can also be sweet !!
I actually have some of them at my house, they taste really sweet but delicious!
Explosive surprise 😂
Sounds like an excellent addition to an early morning smoothie...y'know to get things moving along.
...like "following the yellow brick road" to see the powerful WHIZZARD!!!
I am absolutely OBSESSED WITH YELLO DRAGONFRUIT NOW! There is a local farm that supplies it at my local grocery store and it is just amazing! And yes, it will make you run to the bathroom if you eat just two of them (sometimes a whole one)
