This rapier is heavily inspired by an original kept within the Royal Armouries. (But not to be confused with the #windlass / Royal Armouries collection.) It has a blade of well-tempered high carbon steel. Christus Imperat (Christ Commands) is etched into the fuller on both sides. The complex and vibrantly spiralled guard of this rapier is made of metal with an antiqued steel finish.
Historically the rapier is used not as a Hollywood-portrayed wildly moving blade with elaborate flourishes and manic blade-to-blade clashing with the foe - it is instead a calculated thrusting weapon. Its long blade length keeps the foe at bay and when an opening through his defense appears a swordsman with a rapier can strike at a significant distance with his sword held outwards matched with a forward step.

I just purchased this sword. I was wondering if you could help with instructions on how to sharpen the rapier. I only wish to sharpen 1-3 inches from, and including the tip. Not only because the sword came blunt edged and semi sharp tipped, but I would like to work on some cuts and thrusts on targets. If you can, I thank you very much!
I heard that the edges on the ricasso are sharp even if you wear gloves. Is there any truth in this?
Yes, as well as the diamond cross-section guard. I had to do some significant rounding to mine to eliminate those hot spots.

@@travisgoonan7667 The Hanweis and the new Kingston Arms rapiers have nice rounded crossguards in the same price range.
I just got a couple from Medieval Collectibles. I have no issues with the edge of the ricasso. Rounded enough for me to hold without any issue bare handed. I only wish I knew how to sharpen the blade. I looked all over Google, came up with just a few forums with nothing really helpful instruction wise. I only wish to sharpen near the tip and sharpen the tip a bit more just to work on small cuts and thrusts. If anyone can help with that, I would be most appreciated. I am a newbie and wish to practice properly. Thanks in advance!
I would say watch out for the metal part of the scabbord since it can probably dull the blade. Curious what its made out of. How much does it weigh and can it flex?
My brother has one. It has plenty of flex and weights nearly 3 pounds
