  • These three DIY sensory toys are quick, easy, and cheap. Perfect for autism, SPD (sensory processing disorder), or just general sensory play. DIY fidget toys are fun to make and can save you a heap of money. Autism sensory toys are expensive. With a little crafting you can make your own inexpensive DIY sensory toys.
    In this video I will show you how to make three sensory toys that won't break the bank and you can throw together in just a few minutes.

    I love making DIY sensory/stim toys. Online or in shops, as soon as you add the word 'sensory' or 'autism' or 'special needs', the prices are tripled!

      Homemade is pretty cool if you have the right stuff! Stress balls are pretty easy to make for example. Also you can buy tangles in 'regular' shops and they will be normal priced! I have a few different styles. I'd love a chewy tube or similar but prices are insane! I like to have just the tip of something thin in my mouth so normal chew toys don't work, and pens are pretty icky!

    Thank you! As a special education teacher I'm so excited to have found your channel :). I just made sensory bottles with my students (and a tutorial for my ~first ever~ youtube video) and they LOVED the process and the bottles so I was looking for more options for us. Teachers spend so, so much out of pocket, so things like this are really helpful for reducing cost and meeting student needs.

    • @escott9099
      @escott9099 6 років тому

      Actually...I have a bunch of that exact same dollar tree gel left over from the bottles, so I should go ahead and do the bags--are the thicker ones a specific brand, or just a freezer-type bag? Thanks again :).

    The gel bag is like the gel ice packs they give you in school. When I used to get hurt they would put it on there, and once it thaws out a bit it's fun to play with if the pain is gone.

    Fun! You make some of the same things we do. My girls love the gel bags, with blue gel and fish/sea creatures! Also, if you save parmesean cheese containers you can make great sensory bottles (but you do need to super glue them shut. Fun things to make!

      Or maybe glucose? Corn syrup?

    • @SpeedDemonStar
      @SpeedDemonStar 7 років тому +3

      coconut oil works better in my experience also makes for brighter color when you add the food coloring than it does with clearer stuff, but if you use clear, some edible types of flower petals (don't mix too many colors of course) can be quite interesting to play with through the bag

    • @SpeedDemonStar
      @SpeedDemonStar 7 років тому +2

      added bonus, if the child can't see everything hidden in the bag right away, they can squish it around to find stuff, which many kids find calming.

    Also if your sensory child loves to put things in their mouth you can use clear tape like packing tape etc to reinforce the bag so it isnt so easily punctured.

    Hear the sounds in the tube

  • @ceekay3143
    @ceekay3143 8 років тому +3

    Love it.
    I spent like AU$30 on one of those Find It! tubes. My students love it, but I know I could make one with rice or using your jug of beans or beads or similar if I tried.
    You can also make your own snow globes by gluing things inside the lid of a clear container, then sealing it shut. Or those "calm down bottles" which have glitter and glue and are nice and swirly, then settle after time.

      If you are not in a DIY mode, look at the one pound stores. They have some cheap toys that work as sensory toys. Like smal paterned lights, glitter tubes, rubber ducks and those small games, a plastic thingy with water and balls/hoops in them that you have to get in the right spot. Good luck.

      Urooj Aslam eBay and Amazon are going to be your best bet. You want at least 4 mil but preferably 6 mil thick bags. The size I used were 6"x6"

      The winter material has me making ocean in a bottle and starry jars and things like that for them. Why they started putting sign language in there I don't know all my kids in Sunday school can hear.

    An idea for autism is make spaghetti and put it in one of those big bowl jug things that you make soup in on the stove... Anyways
    put wet spaghetti in it and hide some mini toy cars and little plastic dinosaurs inside of it (or other things) and they have to find them all and sometimes i put pictures of them on a checklist and when they find them they check them off. (Sorry for bad English I'm French)
