Kotodama is such a beautiful sentiment, and one that I was also raised with. Although in my cultural tradition, it's more along the lines of "be careful what you say, your words have power." Thank you for sharing and for making such helpful videos. I am currently taking my first intro class to Nihongo and I am excited to take something more advanced after this. I appreciate your kindness and how you have structured learning Nihongo. Keep up the good work :)
Ohayo gusaimasu..im from phillipines thank you for your youtube channel Ms.Yuko Sensei i love japanese and im interesting to learn japanese word. Domo arigato gusaimasu
Thank you for feeling for the concept of Kotodama. With a fellow human being like you, I am certain that the world is going to be a better place even little by little.
Yuko Sensei, I'm Japanese, but I'm so happy to find your video. I also strongly believe Kotodama concept.
I know this is about half a year old, but I just saw this. While not the same, in English we say "If you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all." It's not as succinct but it's a similar idea that people should be careful of what they say, even to the point of saying nothing if there's no kind response. I wish more people acted on this advice. Thank you as always on sharing Japanese culture and language. As a writer, Kotodama is one of my favorite concepts.
Thank you for this video on kotodama, Yuko-sensei. I am very sensitive to the power of words, and I appreciated hearing about the Japanese attitude regarding this. I also loved hearing the talk in Japanese. I could understand quite a bit of it, and the subtitles helped. I hope you do something like this again.
That was beautiful. I just started learning your beautiful language last month and your videos made it easier. Thank you for sharing this and thank you so much for all that you do.
I'm so grateful for having UA-cam recommending me this channel! I subbed right away and I'll recommend it to everyone who's interested in learning Japanese!
Hello, Yuuko-sensei. I have listened to many of your uploaded videos for the purpose of assisting my adult-aged son in his purpose of learning the Japanese language. I hesitated to comment on your fine video teaching until I had heard this video and read the script along with your speaking. I feel that you had become personally vulnerable by expressing your thanks to your viewers. I must write and note that I am very grateful for your open "vulnerability" toward your viewers and listeners. I wish that I would also be as vulnerable to others. I am an "international" 「国際結婚」father of our son who was born in Japan. It has been years since we had taught English in Japan and Okinawa. With your assistance, we are able to "bridge the gap" I am experiencing while I teach the Japanese language. Thank you very much!
Thank you very much for this valuable teaching Yuko Sensei. 言霊, grateful for sharing this positive teaching. It makes taking your lessons more meaningful.
Yuko sensei thank you very much for your time and dedication. This Chanel is helping me to learn Japanese while staying at home due to Covid. It is easy to understand, I love it.
Arigato Sensei-I love studying with you. You're an excellent teacher-your lessons are concise and logically laid out. I'm a student of Japanese here in DC and find your lessons dove tail perfectly with my class room studies...I'm planning my 5th trip to Japan and I'm prepping with your lesson. Your enthusiasm and kindness shine in all of your videos. Arigato
ありがとうございます for your kind comment! I'm glad to know that my lessons are being helpful for your classroom studies. (^^) I've teaching for many years at colleges here in the US and this is how I normally teach in the classroom as well. Perhaps that's why my teaching style matches your study at school. Have a nice 5th trip to Japan!
Thank you for sharing this interesting bit of Japanese culture, It also shows that different cultures share many similarities, as it is for example also believed in the Christian religion (and other religions as well) that words carry with them a powerful manifesting energy, whether it is good or bad. Another Japanese woman once told me about the value of " 人を思いやる心 ". She said it came from 武士道 (Bushidō) and it is still valued in modern Japanese culture. I thought it was very interesting as well and I think it also relates to this idea of considering your words before you say them.
oh gosh this "practice oftaling in japanese" was perfect. loud, clear and slow in point especially when you support yourself a little bit with the english captions everything that you say is easy to focus on and understang. I can't wait for moooreee
Good Morning , Yuko-san . Thank You very much for the time that you spent in order to make those videos . As for the Kotodama it is certainly a nice belief . A similar belief kind off exists in my country since we do believe that whatever kind word or gesture you make , returns to you , if not in the near future even a bit later , but it does return to you . I will second Eurico Ferreira when he says that you like to hear you talk about japanese culture . Hearing you talking about Japanese culture iis time well spent , so to be honest well i didn't bothered checking how long it lasted , even if it was a bit more i wouldn't really mind .
You always put a lot of thought into your videos, and it was nice to hear something I had not heard before about Japanese culture.
Thank you so much Yuko sensei for this lesson it was utterly enjoyable and informative. The concept of 言霊 is exist in the Arabic countries, but it doesn't has a specific name for it.
Thank you so much! I understood every word you said! It was a lovely thought, especially the 'pay it forward part'. If more people thought like you the world will indeed be a better place. Ganbarimashou!
marishaさん, That's great that you understood every word I said. That's amazing! If more people feel like you did for the concept of a video like this, the world will definitely become a better place. A person like you is a hope for our future. Please keep your light shining.
Just found your channel, and wanted to say Thank you for publishing such useful materials for those of us trying to learn Japanese on our own. I agree with many others that your video's very helpful and clear to understand. Thank you, and I love the concept of Kotodama, it seems like in this day an age everyone should use it in their every day life.
Brian-san, Thank you for following my channel and for your kind words about my lessons. I am glad you find them helpful. I am also grateful that you feel for the concept of Kotodama. We are all different and that is why every one of us is so unique and precious. I believe it is important to express our respect and appreciation for one another with words, especially in time when the world tends to focuses more on differences rather than oneness. People who visit my channel are all from different cultures but they are all very supportive and kind just like you. I want to believe that is the true nature in every human being. Arigatoo gozaimasu.
Yuko-sensei ありがとおございます for this video. Your courses are the best available for beginners. You are truly a bright light both as an educator and a person.
Three months now. This is such a wonderful video! Two things come to mind. First, I was taught that unkind words hurt and kind words heal. Second, I have been taught that I should have an attitude of gratitude. That is, I should always be humble and grateful for what I receive. The world needs to understand
I am from India and from the old religion of Zoraasrian and our prophet say's always have "Good Words Good thoughts Good Deeds so we also believe in "Koto Dama Arigato Goazaimasu
This is a wonderful video, While we are learning Japanese language, we should also learn about Japanese culture. I also find this educational, everyone should be reminded of ことだま . Looking forward to learn more about your culture.
Thank you very much for sharing the Japanese culture. It is indeed very insightful! Learning a language without knowing the culture is like someone working without a soul, you will never be able to have a big leap ahead in succeeding. I enjoyed this video very much and thank you again for taking time to share. Appreciate it!
Yuko-sensei... Thank you very much! This was an awesome video and I enjoyed learning more about Japanese culture and that your experience on UA-cam has been positive. Learning more things like this are always a great complement with your language lessons. Last week, I learned about another Japanese term, Shoshin...which was also very interesting and enjoyable to learn about. Again, thank you for all of your lessons and teaching!
I am American and like to watch Japanese Vtubers. As I began to study Japanese and understand a little of what they say and the comments left by the Japanese speakers, I found myself becoming a kinder person. So much of what I hear and read from them is very positive so I'm a little surprised to find out kotodama is fading away in modern Japan. Perhaps even if it isn't practiced as much today, there's enough of it to still impress and encourage foreigners. Thank you for making this video.
Yuko-sensei, I found your video just today and I am very grateful to you, I love Japanese language and I know the kotodama concept from my Reiki studies. Thank you very much.
Thank you for this episode, Yuko Sensei! It reminded me of my high school Japanese teacher, Cooper Sensei, and the classes we had talking about Japanese culture. It reminds me of the concept of genki, and brings back a lot of good memories! 😊
Domo arigato gozaimasu! There is not a lot positive energy on the internet and I appreciate your attempt to help people understand the true power of positive speech, no matter they language they speak.
