huge early Smashing Pumpkins vibes on this album. I'm a huge fan of this song. I think it's one of the best rock singles of the last 20 years. Love the odd unique structure and the long wordless psychedelic jam at the end that the video version sadly cuts out. All the vocals on this song are the main guy. The female bass player has vocals on other songs but you can tell the difference. He is just doing this sweet breathy thing that isn't unlike Billy Corgan early vocal style or even John Mayer's early work

One of the things I love about music reactions is that it is essentially a walk down memory lane for me. I get the pleasure of watching you listen to songs that i've already heard and formed an opinion on. But every once in a while - you listen to an artist I've never heard before - and this is one of those times. It's not going on my playlist - but i liked their garage style / sound. Thanks for posting this.

Finally! You've gotten around to one of the greatest songs ever. Brian is the singer & yes much like Billy Corgan he has a similar androgynous voice. Their whole first album is very good & creative & you should do EVERY song. I'd start with Little Lover So Polite & go from there. Their 2nd & 3rd albums are also outstanding imo.

I love Lex’s analogy of a new cuisine that you don’t know what to think. It’s perfect. The lead singer is the guy - Brian, the girl Nikki is the bass player. This is his normal voice. Although I grew up on 70’s/80’s music, this is not my generation but a great band that continue to make fantastic music. Don’t let the videos distract you. Some of my favorites: Panic Switch; It Doesn’t Matter Why; Royal We; Nightlight; Scared Together; Straw Man.

It's been so great watching you guys move through musical history!
In this one we crossed over 2000. Now you have the knowledge of the 60s, 70s, 80s, and 90s that went before it.
It's definitely a vibe.. but you've already covered some of the eras that influenced it. With the loud/soft dynamic it reminds of all the bands that used that formula - Led Zeppelin, Pixies, Nirvana. The breathy feminine vocals and distortion makes the think of shoegaze and early Smashing Pumpkins. And there's a little bit of the raw simplicity and intensity of punk but not too rough or fast at all.
I liked this song when it came out. Other ones maybe similar - Jesus and Mary Chain, Death Cab for Cutie, early Smashing Pumpkins (before "Melloncollie").
BTW I always thought the song was sung by a woman. I am so glad I didn't hear Brad ask about the lyrics.

Silversun Pickups are currently on tour. I saw them two days ago, and it was a great show. Their most recent album is full of great songs with wildly distinct sounds. I picked it up two months ago and still can't decide which of like 4-5 tracks is my favorite, and maybe I never will. It's called Physical Thrills and is the first album I have listened to straight through (not shuffled) multiple times in at least five years.
They get compared to Smashing Pumpkins a lot, and I hear the similarities, but for me Smashing Pumpkins after about 1994 started coming off as sort of contrived, too aware of their own rock-darling status. Whereas Silversun Pickups have consistently been putting out solid albums for years. No hate if you're a Pumpkins fan; like what you like; it's just my impression.

I have no idea why I like this song. It's been on my playlist for years and I don't know why. It's almost as if I heard it for the first time while doing something I enjoyed but I have no idea where or when I first heard it.

That is his voice, yes! This band, who I do love a lot, isn't necessarily one of my all-time favorite bands, but they DO have a few of my all-time favorite songs. This is one of them. Another is "Kissing Families." Y'all should check out "Growing Old Is Getting Old." But maybe what you should REALLY react to is their LIVE version of "Panic Switch" on David Letterman. Yes, please!

Circadian Rhythm is another song I think you'll like. The female sings and she sounds very similar to the male singer.

Think the singer might be the guy, leaning into the microphone moving his lips simultaneous to words popping out.. Just a stab.

I passed out driving My truck to this song. Thankfully no body got hurt. Weird time in my life. Great song though, just a weird memory. Happy Holidays and Christmas and ya da ya da etc. @Brad & Lex

It wasn't until I saw them live that I realized the guy was the vocalist and not the young lady on the bass. They were pretty tight live. I can't for the life of me remember who they were opening for.

Frank Black / pixies came before nirvana, then these guys came. Black does the scream sing beautifully. This is a beautiful beautiful song. That’s his voice.

Don’t forget sometimes the band has no real input on the video. They hire a director they like and the director just has a vision and they trust his vision will work. More Lana Del Rey, try the song Off To The Races, has a great beat and really catchy!

First time I heard this song I thought at first it was maybe some early, rare Pumpkins I'd somehow missed. Then I thought it had to be a new band very heavily influenced by them. Found out it was the latter and fell in love with the Carnavas album.
