honestly i caught for a girl (she was ranked 2 in our state) and i called her pitches, i too didn’t call for a screwball very often bc i thought it looked to much like a fastball down the middle that was at the perfect spot to crush.
Most of the good screwball pitchers look off balance to me. It almost looks like my daughter when she was younger and her drag mark would go out to the side and curve out instead of sliding towards her plant foot. She would actually throw a ball that would break like a screwball when she did this. So are the screwball pitchers just capitalizing on bad techniques and learning to just live with it or have they been taught to do this.
