I have used these showers for many years and they are great. Experience has taught me a few of things with them. 1. Get 1 with a screw cap on it. 2. Use a rope with a pulley to lift it into the tree. 3. Remove ALL the air from the shower before laying it in the sun. 4. The clear side MUST go up. Yes I know what the instructions say but the clear must face up. The heat of the sun is drawn to black side THROUGH the water to heat it up. The black side up you are relying on the heating the plastic then the plastic heating the water. Plastic is not a good conductor of heat. Please try 2 showers side by side, one clear side up and the other black side up and see for yourselves. Stay Safe.
Yeah. Instead of the plastic bung or cap the you just push in, the "cheaper"ones have a screw on cap. They won't pop out land leak like the push in caps do.
I just bought the same one the other day what a POS!1.The instructions actually say clear side up 2. It has a screw cap on the shower end which if you screw just a little to tight it strips out and blows all your water out if it's already hanging. 3. Don't leave it hanging with water full up to the fill line for even a few hours out in the sun, seams on the clear side can blow out. 4. Take back to the store, get refund, build better one for cheaper dyi
I got mine yesterday filled it up and leaks from both holes no matter how much I adjust screw end and other. Leave an hour to warm up and it’s empty. Brilliant 👍🏾
I got a Ozark Trail 5 gallon Solar Shower and it is awesome and works very well. The water was about 45 degrees Celsius after 3 hours of direct sunlight. I glad I got it. It came in handy, when I went on a week camping trip, living off the grid. :)
i use one of these when i'm hunting, or working at my hunt club. the water heats up very fast in summer. in winter i park my truck with the wind sheild facing the sun and lay it on my dash. it works great! use your defrost to knock the chill off of cold creek water, then shut the windows and let the sun work. every one who camps near their vehicle should have one of these. clear side up!
I use one of these on my boat - I fill it with two kettles of cold water and add one kettle of boiling water and have a beautiful hot but comfortable shower. It only fills half a bag which is plenty for one person. (I add the cold first and using a good non melting funnel and being careful add the boiling water).
You got warmth from the sun, however got radiant heat from the ground, negating a lot of the heat gain. A full 5 gallon bag would be close to 38 lbs in weight, not 20 as mentioned. I have used smaller bags in the past and recommend them highly. A must have when boondocking.
Before use, add 1/4 cup of Baking soda to 1 glass of water, pour into shower bag and let sit in sun 30 minutes before regular use of bath. It takes the plastic smell out.
I HAVE THIS!!!!..IT WORKS GREAT....HAD ENOUGH WATER FOR 2 SHOWERS...NICE AND WARM...9 OUT OF 10....REPLACED THE TOP PLASTIC HANDLE WITH A BROOM HANDLE CUT TO SIZE FOR MORE STRENGTH....GREAT WATER FLOW TOO.
@envirosponsible I finally got around to testing this. The water warmed up just as quick with the clear side up as it did with the black. It was actually a cooler day when I tried it clear side up yet it still got as warm.
I've heard about these on a few different channels, usually people who are living on the road in their vans or in off the grid ecovillages, but none of them showed them using these. And I hadn't thought to look up any videos on the subject till today, and this was top of the search results.
I own the Texsport shower bag and it looks exactly like this one. The valve is exactly the same and I have to say that it doesn't work really well. It's hard to turn left and right to open and close it and the water coming out is almost a trickle. I also own Seattle Sports and Stearns shower bags and they are way better. The water flow is great and the valves are easy to open.
thanks so much for this video..was thinking about buying one of these but wasnt sure how it worked..Now I know...I like keeping my hot water heater off and save money on electric bill. the video shows thats it would be a good think to have..thanks again..
Yay saw your ecover products I use them too :) Was looking for an alternative to using my electric shower all the time and I think you just persuaded me to buy one of these. Thank you.
I consider the water collected in my rain barrel safe to bathe in, but no necessarily potable. A lot like lakes or rivers. I would bathe in them, but I wouldn't drink the water in those water bodies without treating it first. Thanks for commenting.
Could be used: adding reflective car shade/ mylar / foil or mirrors around it to cut down on time to heat up while adding a small clear bag around it to create a green house effect. Then blow into the bag to add Co2 ( good green house gas) to increase green house effect. Not sure how it will react to the bag
shotgun6X make sure you watch for hot spots.( curved reflectors can actually generate a narrow focus point of heat) The clear bag and adding in CO2 gas is quite pretty effective even on its own. Just make sure you get a good seal around it to maximize the heat retention of CO2 gas. I hope it helps when you need to use this.
You're warming it upside down. The clear side goes up when it's in the sun. Otherwise, you're losing a lot of your heat up into the air. It's like putting a heating element at the top of a bucket of water. The heating element goes at the bottom.
I rinsed mine out with baking soda and it doesn't smell at all really now. Funny, when I tried it out to see how long it took their were tiny baby frogs hoping about the size of the toad you saw.
What did u hang it from? The frame of ur canopy? About to get one for firefly and can't think of a good place where it will hang. Bag seems pretty heavy
Depending on the temperature of use sunlight and whether you might be able to make water safe to drink in that bag if you leave it long enough in the Sun
I have one and am trying to understand how to actually hand it from something - a hook, for example. My first one got ripped as I carried it, another one as I tried to hang it ....Thanks for comments!
hey i just bought this product! do you enjoy it still ? or have you used it often while camping ? how did you end up pitching it up to have a shower ? just curious as this would be all new to me.
Using the metric system 5 gallons is roughly 20 litres and I litre of water weighs 1kg so the maximum amount of water would be 20 kg. I have the same bag but a 20 litre size.
I purchased one and tried to use last week during camping. Unfortunately the water did not come out from the hose by unknown reason. This product doesn't seem well-working in my case.
5 gallon US (I'm guessing) = 18.9 litre. The nice thing about knowing the metric volume and that you're using water is that 1 litre of water = 1 kg (basically). So that should've been 18.9 (+ bag) kg or about 41.6 lbs. Unless it was an imperial gallon, which would be 22.7 litre and thus 22.7 (+ bag) kg or about 50 lbs.
These are designed for outdoor use. 5 gal = 40 lbs. Strong rope with a pulley is attached to a secure point. FYI use the F degree and not Celsius -- We Americans relate to American standard not European.
That's exactly what I was wondering! I have a sawyer squeeze AND this shower. I was looking to get the collapsible five gallon jug, but this guy made me realize I already had one! I'm gonna see if the filter can be attached!!!
I have had one of these before. You do NOT want to leave it out in the sun more then three hours if the temps are like 90+ you cannot stand the heat the water will be at. I'd add a gallon of cold to cool it down (I'd not fill fully of course)
Bummed mine leaked all over the floor. Put about 2 gallons and put in a plastic bag and froze it in the feeezer. We will see how it makes it to south padre lol
I've really like the demonstration. It was the first I found! In Portugal, where I live this bag contains 20 Liters and every Liter of water have exactlly 1 pound... So 20 Liters... 20 pounds. A small child hanging on a tree... :-) I think the best way to use that bag is hang them in a tree's branch.
Take it easy professor. So my math was off, big deal. I was multi-tasking. Of course I know water weighs 8.3lbs per gallon (US). Unfortunately, you're not the only person I know who is rude instead of constructive. Why the destructive behavior?
The black tube threads through the slot at the top of the bag to help when hanging it up. If you just use the cord through the handle, the bag might split.

TheOriginalCopyDog screw cap?
Yeah. Instead of the plastic bung or cap the you just push in, the "cheaper"ones have a screw on cap. They won't pop out land leak like the push in caps do.
Thanks but too late, i just bought one with the pushin cap.😱

Why use baking soda with warm water on initial use
I used this during a power outage after a hurricane knocked out all of south Florida. Loved it.
I use one of these on my boat - I fill it with two kettles of cold water and add one kettle of boiling water and have a beautiful hot but comfortable shower. It only fills half a bag which is plenty for one person. (I add the cold first and using a good non melting funnel and being careful add the boiling water).

I’m impressed by the flow honestly, I thought it would dribble out. Thanks
Thank you for this review.... I know it’s been a while since you’ve posted it but it’s still appreciated!
On a sunny couple of days I think I will experiment to see if it warms up better black side up or clear.
@envirosponsible I finally got around to testing this. The water warmed up just as quick with the clear side up as it did with the black. It was actually a cooler day when I tried it clear side up yet it still got as warm.
Thank you for confirming that the plug at the top of the bag does in fact open. I will have to try to open it with a pliers.
I've heard about these on a few different channels, usually people who are living on the road in their vans or in off the grid ecovillages, but none of them showed them using these. And I hadn't thought to look up any videos on the subject till today, and this was top of the search results.

Thanks man for putting an effort for letting us know about it more.
Good piece of prep gear for those of us living in hurricane prone areas!
thanks so much for this video..was thinking about buying one of these but wasnt sure how it worked..Now I know...I like keeping my hot water heater off and save money on electric bill. the video shows thats it would be a good think to have..thanks again..

How secure is the fill cap when it’s really hot because rubber and plastic gets extremely flexible when hot
I consider the water collected in my rain barrel safe to bathe in, but no necessarily potable. A lot like lakes or rivers. I would bathe in them, but I wouldn't drink the water in those water bodies without treating it first. Thanks for commenting.
Rain water is perfectly drinkable provided you keep your gutters clean
Could be used:
adding reflective car shade/ mylar / foil or mirrors around it to cut down on time to heat up while adding a small clear bag around it to create a green house effect. Then blow into the bag to add Co2 ( good green house gas) to increase green house effect. Not sure how it will react to the bag
+Creative Redundancy I need to remember this

Just make sure you get a good seal around it to maximize the heat retention of CO2 gas. I hope it helps when you need to use this.
i was using this and i still had shampoo in my hair ran out of water but hey i still like this prodyct jus had to refill and so far i love it.
You're warming it upside down. The clear side goes up when it's in the sun. Otherwise, you're losing a lot of your heat up into the air. It's like putting a heating element at the top of a bucket of water. The heating element goes at the bottom.
You're right. Thanks.
I have the Coleman 20L Solar Shower and it says black side up 🤔
I've used these bags a lot. Their weak point is the handle, which rips after a while because it can't take the weight.
I rinsed mine out with baking soda and it doesn't smell at all really now. Funny, when I tried it out to see how long it took their were tiny baby frogs hoping about the size of the toad you saw.
Worked well at Bonnaroo in the hi 90's temperature. Put it on the roof on the GMC Terrain and sat on a cooler.
What did u hang it from? The frame of ur canopy? About to get one for firefly and can't think of a good place where it will hang. Bag seems pretty heavy
im on my 2nd one -if you have black small indoor type garbage can can make warm water too.
The demonstration really was helpful. Thank you!
I was searching for this so bad. But i was waiting for the temperature😃 how much heat water gets
Thanks for the insight - I'm ordering one of these from eBay right now! :o)
Search Swiss army one 20l does the whole trips water in one for a week!
nice job, your slick math skills are incredible. you are the only person on earth with a 5 gallon bag of water that weighs 20 lbs.
hey i just bought this product! do you enjoy it still ?
or have you used it often while camping ? how did you end up pitching it up to have a shower ? just curious as this would be all new to me.
Me too and I heard it could be the air bubble inside as I never fill it up full. It's too heavy at 20 kg.
dude i love that rain barrel idea
I used this in Hawaii when our water heaters were down , worked quite well
I love my bag. I put only 1/4th full, leave in sun 1 hour, it's so hot, I add cold water to it up to 3/4 level. I can't carry more than 3/4 full
QUESTION: how long would you have to leave the container in the sun till it is just warm enough to take a shower
Using the metric system 5 gallons is roughly 20 litres and I litre of water weighs 1kg so the maximum amount of water would be 20 kg. I have the same bag but a 20 litre size.
so if the rain water isn't potable, you can still use it to bathe with? do u need soap to make it usable or can u just rinse off with this?
Pro Tip: fill 3/4, urinate in the bag, shake, instant warm water, shower.
+FatCatMedia you first!
🤣
Cut out the middle man...
Lol
Thank You!
Very informative!
I purchased one and tried to use last week during camping. Unfortunately the water did not come out from the hose by unknown reason. This product doesn't seem well-working in my case.
Great review

Thanks for this, im a new traveler, never went camping. I would be in deep shit of not knowing what to do
Going to be using this bad for for Glastonbury 2020 ( great review )
Bet that didnt go to plan 🙈🙈
There are greenpeace showers at Glastonbury, it's free
These are designed for outdoor use. 5 gal = 40 lbs. Strong rope with a pulley is attached to a secure point. FYI use the F degree and not Celsius -- We Americans relate to American standard not European.
This must keep outside to get water warm how long have to keep plse reply
Eureka!!!
An eco-friendly (read:free) way to resume my warm showers!
I feel like dancing! Steve DeBruyn what do u think?
I have seen something like that once a long time ago....but YES I think that is a pretty neat idea!!
Yay! Im glad u approve.
A box with clear plastic or glass sides would help retain some heat for that bag, sort of like a greenhouse effect.
could you possibly put a sawyer water filter on the tube to filter the water?
That's exactly what I was wondering! I have a sawyer squeeze AND this shower. I was looking to get the collapsible five gallon jug, but this guy made me realize I already had one! I'm gonna see if the filter can be attached!!!
Mine arrives today woo
On the instructions that come with these they always say to leave it black side up to warm.
I have had one of these before. You do NOT want to leave it out in the sun more then three hours if the temps are like 90+ you cannot stand the heat the water will be at. I'd add a gallon of cold to cool it down (I'd not fill fully of course)
Great advice. They can get raging hot for sure.
What do you wear when you shower?
@SurvivalWithBushcraf you are correct about the clear side
Sure you could use lake water provided you kept it out of your eyes and mouth. Even then it would be safe for the most part. You swim in lakes right?
If you were just gonna shower it would be "r" rated not "x" unless you were gonna go crazy with the nozzle or something;)
hahahaha
😂 Yeah maybe if it was a woman showering cause you know they love themselves some shower heads
wonder if they work in the uk where the sun can't be arsed coming out for more than 10mins
Probably not. I would suggest an immersion water heater in a bucket with a rechargeable shower head. Then you can store it all in the bucket.
what is the short length of black pvc tube for please?
very nice review thanks for the info
Does anyone know how to actually get this dry afterwards? Once I empty it, there's still some water because it doesn't go back out easily.
Thanks for the review.. Helpful
can you use it more than once???
Thanks a lot. Very helpful
"cute little guy... or girl" we love an inclusive creator lol thanks for showing this i was trying to decide if i should get this product
oh god what were you wearing when you reviewed this?
Bummed mine leaked all over the floor. Put about 2 gallons and put in a plastic bag and froze it in the feeezer. We will see how it makes it to south padre lol
is it re-usable?
11/10 playing with a 1 cm toad
How long can I store water in it?
A half size one would be good as well.
I've really like the demonstration. It was the first I found! In Portugal, where I live this bag contains 20 Liters and every Liter of water have exactlly 1 pound... So 20 Liters... 20 pounds. A small child hanging on a tree... :-) I think the best way to use that bag is hang them in a tree's branch.
a liter weighs 2.2 pounds... so its more like 45 pounds for 20 liters
I have this ' solar shower' and the bag gets hot but does not heat the water inside
Gosh, that's hard to remember! "1 litre of water weighs 1 kilogram" is so much easier! =o)
I imagine you could warm it near a campfire.
Or on top of your car hood if you've been driving all day.
can you use it over and over again
Winter !
Great sound teack
Great vid man! 5/5!
Usually how many time you need to take a shower?
Absolutely.
Is this non toxic!!?? 😊
Take it easy professor. So my math was off, big deal. I was multi-tasking. Of course I know water weighs 8.3lbs per gallon (US). Unfortunately, you're not the only person I know who is rude instead of constructive. Why the destructive behavior?
thanks
is that a shower manager in your shower?
Mine came with a black tube, what is it for?
The black tube threads through the slot at the top of the bag to help when hanging it up. If you just use the cord through the handle, the bag might split.
how long was you in the shower for?
How long does the water run on full capacity?
Zo gravity I would guess :) just sit it a certain way or hang it a certain way. Play around with it.
Great vid. Thanks.
@billometer Great point.
Great info!
Thank you honey! xoxo
What is the short white hollow pole for?
Mack Nolan use it on the tap so it’s easier to fill up, gets heavy when it’s getting full and hard to hold it close to the tap without an extension ✌🏻
@rodster6 Any updates on this experiment?
Yup.
That's my finger.....LMAO. Are you sure it's YOUR finger?
