Does it matter what physical port. i want to use A for rig control and B for FSK and CW. Does it matter what port the cable is plugged into on the back of the rig?

Because page 1-3 in the basic manual says USB 2 physical port is for digital data, input/output, I plugged into it. No go. My two com ports disappear from the device manager. Using USB-1, Win4ICOMSuite comes right up along with WJST. What is the difference between the two physical USB ports?

      Hi Brad,
Yes the USB2.0 on the rear, not the blue one. That blue USB3.0 and not being used yet. Use A for rig and B for data. Got it huh? 73 - Rich, K0PIR.us

Rich thankyou for the informative video. I am having some difficulty useing wsjtx straight with no logging software.Using your settings is a no go. Thanks again

      Hi Earl,
How are you setting up the Radio (rig) in WSJT-X? At the moment the IC-7610 is not supported and it won't work with another rig, like the 7600 or 7700, selected in WSJT-X.
I am patiently waiting for WSJT-X and HamLib to be updated with the 7610.

      Ham Radio with K0PIR
I have tried every setting combination. No rig and vox works but is no fun ").
Thank you for your response. I was beginning to realize that there is something wrong with wsjt.
I will look into the configs to see what makes the 7300 work (perfect).

I have used WSJT-X with no rig, but using RTS and one of the virtual COM ports for keying.
Another thought, DX Labs Suite Commander works good as the rig. I have mine setup that way right now and using DX Keeper for my log. Also using JT Alert to log contacts into DX Keeper. I think I'll do a video on it when I'm comfortable using it.
Sometimes it's just trial and error until you find what works. Best 73!

I'm stuck, and don't either understand or something is not set right. I have a 7610 but can't get what you refer to as Comm Port B working . Comm Port A is working fine. I am assuming that if a take an application , like Commander that works fine on comm port A (my number 6) and then change Commander to use Comm port B (my #8 ) that Commander should work providing i have the baud rate, bit rate, set correctly. However they do not, nothing works on Comm Port B. I installed the Icom drivers on a second PC and had the same problems. I assume you only have to use one USB cable from the back of the 7610 to the PC to normally be able to use both Comm Port A and B. I tried a second cable , just in case i had a bad cable but same results. Then I thought perhaps you have to actually use two cables , one for each comm port. I plugged my second cable in the USB 3.0 port but all that did is add some high speed bridge. So, after hours of trying... I'm looking here for idea.s Thanks, Andy K3UK.

      Hi Andrew,
Nice to hear from you and great question. Yes, just one cable. Sounds like you have it in the correct port on the back of the radio also. It is not the blue USB3.0 port but the USB2.0 on the rear of the radio. The blue USB3.0 will be activated at a later date by Icom.
I think you have it correct. The A port is the one we use for rig control (CAT). Is is for CI-V. The B port is for FSK Data, so you will not be able to use that one for rig control.
I hope I understood you correctly. I think you are setup FB. Okay?

So, I wonder why Comm Port B does not connect to Commander if I choose that comm port rather than comm port A ?

The B does not carry CI-V commands. It's just how Icom has it configured. Everything I have done with it on multiple computers, software programs and OS's works FB. Just choose A for CAT or rig control and B for whatever else you need like FSK keying. - Rich, K0PIR

I was beginning to wonder if that was the case because I used a program to look at Comm Port B and it was open but not sending info. So, use B if I have an application that needs another line for something like CW keying or RTTY FSK ?. Thank you, you have saved me hours of head scrathing

Yep that's it exactly. I use the extra COM port for FSK and for CW keying. In the software, as I have it in my radio, it will use DTR for keying on that port. It works great. Can't wait until they get the USB3.0 high speed port operational! 73 and thanks for commenting. It will help others as well. - Rich, K0PIR
