Note: The size of cars and parking spaces vary from place to place, so you may have to adjust in some situations. The sizes of the vehicles in front of you and behind might also vary a lot. Make sure to always do your verifications (by checking the mirrors and by turning your head) at every step in order to always keep a safe distance from the other vehicles, or any other potential obstacles.
Absolutely correct, dry steering really isn't an issue these days, you can dry steer on the UK driving test. Dry steering is only really bad if you are hard on the brake.
Conquer Driving Ah you are here too. It is nice to see instructor visit other instructor channel and share opinion. I have seen some of your videos where you said positive thing about dry steering.
So on incline its best not to
Why is it bad if on the brake? More wear and tear?
You guys need to collab and where you drive over their and @ConduiteFacile comes to the UK. Maybe you sit the tests as well? I mean I'd watch it.
You really make great driving tutorials. I studied carefully your previous videos and recently got a full non-commercial car license without any problems at both written and driving tests. Thank you and please continue creating more awesome tutorials.
You're the best. Ive watched both your English and spanish version of these tutorials. so helpful
Hi there! Thank you for your channel, it's fantastic! I just passed my road test today and wanted to let you know I've learned a lot from you. The way you position the cameras is great, it feels like it's me who's driving. That's awesome! Thanks! Great job! ;)
Cool. Congrats for the exam.
I'm from Atlanta (hardly any parallel parking) but work in DC (parallel parking's a way of life), your videos really helped in getting me back to standard 💯
This channel just helped me secure my license I watched every video for the last month and it helped when I practiced and I just appreciate this channel. Btw I am going to give information on my roadtest for anyone who takes it in NY. I parked the first time I took my test between two cars in a tighter spot it was hard, but this time I was able to pick my spot going uphill which means when you reverse you are going in a downhill position and I had room. Also if you're able to pick a spot try to make sure you choose a flat surface or one that goes uphill, it makes no sense to pick a tight spot on your road test if you could pick, but you might not be given the option; never pick a spot going downhill because you have to reverse uphill and you don't want to have to hit the accelerator when you parallel park. I failed my road test the first time because of the spot I was given, but also because I wasn't ready. I was depressed but it taught me more when I failed it and actually helped me understand what to expect on roadtest. There about three routes, I know from someone telling me and since when I took it my second time I was given a completely different route. My permit would have expired on December 21 so I am just happy and I recommend everyone just practices between 2-3 hours a week if you can't at least an hour a week.
In my country, under certain circumstances, even in normal space, sometimes drivers are asked to put off the parking brake and leave the gear in neutral. There are dedicated persons (called parking crew) whose job is to help control the parking process. If needed, they will push the parked car in order to give some space for other cars to park or to exit, etc.
But thanks again for this video. You have satisfied our request for this, though we have to wait for quite a long time. :)
What if the parking crew is a car thief
This sounds a lot more plausible than leaving it up to individuals to bump cars.
@@EpicGamer-dj7dm They don't have the keys, presumably they just push the car. If the e-brake is set light, it's not hard to move a car.
and what country is that?
yes what country is that? it's interesting to know.
I found your channel 16h before my driving test and I binge watched almost all your videos. You helped me so much that I passed on my 3rd try, I think if I would have found you before my first try I would have passed then. You’re amazing!
Thanks. Congrats for the exam!
True that, it was funny for me seeing how some people make room for themselves when I was visiting Argentina. It was also funny to see almost every car had plastic protectors for their bumpers.
4:14 that looks like the kinda picture my parents would send in the family group chat lol
I couldn't stop laughing at the little white car @4:17 😂😂🤣🤣😁😁
I tell you, with gas prices nowadays, that car has another HUGE advantage.
Learned parallel parking on a tiny car, got my license and a car and realized it was a LOT longer and I had no idea how to do it. Your videos helped and I parked perfectly yesterday. Thanks
Nice. You're welcome.
Hello from BC.
I really appreciate how you make this look easy for us, but also give us lots of tiny details. Giving us lots of tiny details implies that you don't look down on us for not knowing this at first. For example, turning the wheel one full turn, when there is space, really makes sense.
You are my ultimate driving teacher! I watch your video to pass the driving exam in Ontario.
You are a super, Super good instructor (from me the maximum note).
I learn very much from you, you are phenomenal, on the meaning of all of the techniques and the clear, easy and precise explanation, Bravo.
Thank you, that you exist, and that you help us many!
P.S. from you I learned all the parking methods, and I made it first.
The thing about distance appreciation is a great job, and I hope you'll help us out.
Sincerely and respectfully, I wish you the best.
And thank YOU for the nice words. Stay tuned for the video. Probably next month or so.
I mean literally you nailed it .You're above the Pro level
A possible consideration for steering wheel turning. Apparently, some vehicle steering wheels (designed for performance?!) will only turn 1.25 turns before maxing out. Our Driving school ended up with one (and everyone HATES it for parallel parking). With such a tight turn max, you will need to experiment with how many turns (or fractions thereof) to equate to a "normal" car's wheel turn. For us, it was about a 0.8 turn to equal a normal car's 1 full turn. FYI - I send my students to your channel to polish and perfect their parallel parking. Having great comments back from them!
As usual, great driving tips, thank you very much for your effort of making these useful driving tutorial videos.
I heard it is a common practice in french cities where parking space is very limited to do that "bumping" parking.
Gábor Szűcs haha. I guess car maintenance shops in French do have a brisk trade.
thats not true
The French do have a very frequent car to car contact driving style, as well as the requirement to overtake on both sides.
It's absolutely not true. Better for u the owner of the other car is not here if u try this bumper parking
@@Adzy2k61? It's not true either. In big cities, like everywhere u do have traffic jam, but overtaking on the right or not respecting security distance are illegal
hahahaha it's true
in downtown Cairo you've got to park in N otherwise you might get egged :'D
I'm a strong advocate of having the bumpers made of rubber, or at least dressed with rubber, so that whenever there's a minor bump, it creates no issue, less road rage.
Even painted bumpers can take a big hit before you can see any damage. It's quite impressive.
I did the full turn right and failed my test you are so accurate the most deliberate teacher ever thanks
Cloud Man I have my test in 2 weeks
Cloud Man My instructor told me to turn it all the way to the right. I am gonna have to make sure I only turn it once or one in a half times to the right
The last bit is just so funny OMG can't stop laughing.
Yup. I got it confirmed in the comments. It's a thing.
The Urban Legend seems to be true. I heard it from a very experienced driver who heard it from another experienced driver. I haven't tried it myself. I live in Brooklyn NY
I kinda like that idea of leaving the gear in neutral so other car can slightly bump your car when parking in tight spaces. that is why it is called BUMPER right? Car manufacturers should make bumpers more scratch resistant. Hahaha just sayin, but I would not be happy if someone bump my bumper as well LOL.
Yes. People tend to freak out at the slightest bumper collision. But that's what they're for. Bumping. Hence the name. You'd be surprised at the force of impact it takes for a bumper to get damaged. Over my years of teaching I've had a few people ramming us and I always thought the bumpers were destroyed, only to come out of the car and notice that there was not even a scratch.
@@ConduiteFacile I never knew that they coyld take such abuse. This would explain why my bumper was okay, when I bumped into pole. I thought that I luckily just touched it, but maybe not.
I like the bumper parking idea, too. As long as this can be done safely, then I see no problems with it.
Yes, we do neutral parking in Brazil.
Some places in Malaysia does that. Mostly at the apartment parking areas because many residents there have more than 1 car per household.
I've seen people parking that way in Rome more than once. Many cars there had at least scratches or dents so apparently people cared way less about the outer appearance of the car than I'm used to.
Your channel is amazing! Really great and helpful tutorials. Keep up!!
I honestly still dont know if people truly see the distance in front and back or they assume/guess they have space. I never know.
I can assure, it's something that's not easy to guess even after driving for years.
@@ConduiteFacile you can't see what's directly in front of you unless you drive a short front vehicle ( like some vans).
Those Hino trucks with a flat nose
I have a back camera to see what's behind me, I can go very close to the car (or wall) behind me without hitting it, but for the front you need to have someone to tell you how close you are and you will do your verifications accordingly (kinda like calibrating yourself).
Once I hear a constant peeping I stop .
I drive a Toyota Prius C without reversing camera, find it extremely helpful to do this in tight situation: opening the rear hatch, flipping the rear seat back down.
Thank you I have parked my car easily using your tips thanks a lot
When I visited my father in Paris 5 years ago a roommate of his told me that often times in Central Paris they don't lock their brakes so that other cars can push them and exit easier. I was shocked to hear such a thing! If I find my bumper scratched in the parking lot I freak out. But it got so many scratches that I've given up and will hopefully paint both front and rear bumpers next year. Also when failing paralel parking is always because I try not to dry steer lol 😂.
4:24 They actually do that in Italy.
same in Chile xD
whaaaat
wtf, nar bro forget it
Great videos including your previous one. Tks in advance
4:30
I saw that in Egypt, but they din't hit it like that, the driver stops his car and push other cars by hand, sometimes there is a person who is paid to do that, they make car bumpers touch each other glad that I don't live there.
Cool. Thanks for the info.
@@ConduiteFacile I have a question
When I flash my turning signal and want to parallel park at a one way street the cars behind me don't stop, what should I do?!
there are so many variables. don't get frustrated. just practice practice practice - and always practice slowly.
if we assume that the cars are aligned, then steering the wheel completely to the right requires as a step 2 to align the wheel and move a little bit to the back.
This way we avoid hitting the front car when we steer the wheel to the left so we can get into the parking spot.
I think steering the wheel 1 + 1/4 combine the 2 earlier steps making your advice genius!!
You are awesome you are best teacher keep going 🤗🤗🤗 my respect to you
4:16 I'm crying on this 🤣🤣
In a EUropean city an example at the beginning of the video would not be considered a tight spot) Thanks for the video.
Here in North America yes. The second example would be though.
Lol true in Greece thats a big spot
Thank you so much this video help me lot
I always lift up the hand break whenever I park so the car doesn't roll away. Even on a flat terrain. I've never used the neutral gear.
Neutral gear is more to prevent any damage if an other car touch you in a tight parking spot.
I lived in Paris, France in the 1990's. People always left their car in neutral and the parking brake off. Other drivers would sometimes push your car back a few inches if needed.
I've heard that parking in Paris is crazy.
Yes, l was there in the late 1980's, and the cars were parked bumper to bumper and l did wonder how they managed to park it in the first place and most importantly ,how to get out!
Other videos recommend a full right turn of the wheel, backing up a bit and then turn full left (not immediately left as you mentioned). What takes less space? 1 1/4 turn right then full left, or full right, backup and then full left?
There are different methods. I prefer this one for the reason I explain in the video.
Very informative thank you for sharing 🙏👍👍👍❤️❤️❤️🇴🇲
Very well presented 👍keep the good work going 👌👌wishes from India 🇮🇳
😄 ( i don t know if the people leave their car in neutral, but maybe somewhere this is true..... threewheelers, mata velhos somethimes they did....) - thank you for all your tutorials !
Thank you for your videos, sir.
wow what a superb commentary and teaching and great videos---can you inset a video showing from the inside drivers view point also? thank you so much
Hi. I have lots of videos with POVs. Just browse the channel.
Yes it’s true , Egypt , Italy
Leaving the cars in neutral when the place is crowded is done in Spain.
Hi, can u please do a video for uphill and downhill parking, step by step. Thank you.
More gas for uphill and just use brake for downhill
I think if you're idleling in heavy traffic, It makes sense to use the neutral gear.
If idling for a long time, yes.
The legend is true 👍👍
That's what the drivers in Thailand do: leave it in neutral and handbrake released, so the parking lot attendant does the pushing to fit more vehicles.
Wear and tear, no matter how serious it might be, results from dry steering is infinitesimal when compared to damaged bodywork and the driver's ego.
That's what I always say to people.
@@ConduiteFacile Dear Sir: can't thank you enough for making an array of educational videos to make the road safer and the palms less sweaty.
You're welcome.
I have a bulletproof technique regarding determining distance between me and vehicle behind me.
I slowly release the clutch while in the reverse gear and gradually go backwards while not looking at my inside mirror at all. My head is still facing forward while observing car in front. I slightly separate back of my head from the headrest and wait on physics to tell me when i'm at the end of my maneuver. When my head bumps on the headrest i switch to 1st gear and slowly release the clutch and move forward to align the vehicle ( no gas involved). When my head separates from the headrest I am at the right distance again and start to move backwards. I repeat this action until I'm perfectly aligned.
I call it head movement technique.
Thanks man, parking is my biggest weakness.
Me tooo, pls tell me it'll gettin easier with time xDD
😂 can I push him out of my way? 😂
I have heard the bumper pushing is done in France haha.
very useful informations , thanks
You are amazing 👍👍👍👍
Great tutorial thank u.....
from Dubai
no parallel parking skills needed in DXB
Try to make a video when the cars we wanna park between are opposite direction of ours car (mirror line up with rare bumper).I hope it make sense to you
I've had some requests for that already, but here, by law, you need to park in the direction of traffic. I'll try to figure out some way of doing it.
Good job thank you
GREAT! 🤝
What the use of power steering if you can't dry driving once in a while
Great video! I cannot see the curb from my mirrors when parallel parking on a curbside, is my mirror positioned incorrectly? Or do you have a video about mirror positioning? Thanks.
My teacher told me the right side mirror should be angled a liiitle bit down so you can see the curb behind the car, when parking with your back towards it. Also you should see a bit of your car in the mirrors to better judge the distances. I guess you have to try and realise what you can actually see that's helpful for you to orient in the space.
Great tutorial👍👍👍👍
Thank you 😊
I'm stressed just watching this, reversing clearly gives me anxiety, the video is very helpful though
My difficulty is when I'm pararell parking and when I'm almost inside I can't see behind car, I don't know how far or close I'm from it! Not even if I look back!
I'll makje a video on that this spring. When the snow melts.
@@ConduiteFacile How can I find this video? Thanks!
Very useful
God Bless you
Can you please make a video of how not to bump into parked cars on the side of busy and narrow roads? I fear this and it stops me from concentrating on my driving
Yes, that's what we do in NY) I have a small car, everyone pushes me)
Re your urban legend: My mom lived in Paris in the 70s and said people left their car in Neutral there so they could move the parked cars in front and behind them
At 1:38 I was tough to turn the wheel straight and back up if this happens and then turn wheel fully left again.
Hello how do you get out of a driveway with parked cars in both sides ?
it is true for Paris.
Most British accent I heard on UA-cam
The neutral thing is true but we don't push it with the bumper, we push it with our hands
If you have blind spot mirrors isn’t this process much more easy?
On the roadtest if they give a tightspot and I end up moving forward to the right and reversing left would they take off points?
good day sir.. i just want to ask something.. so the ideal is to turn the steering wheel 1 1/4 steer to the right or just one full steer?
Just one turn if there's plenty of room, 1 and a quarter if it's a tighter spot.
When I want to parallel park at a one way street the cars behind me don't stop, they don't let room for me, what should I do?!
Make sure to put your flasher to the side where you want to park and to slow down a bit while approaching the parking spot.
How to exit or get out of a tight parking ?
Alex Gonzalez Just reverse the steps. 😊
France and India are two countries I know of where bumping into car bumpers as you park is a normal thing.
I rely on reverse sensor's beeping while backing up. But once, it didn't beep at all and I bumped the car behind : |
Can you please do some tutorials about driving long suvs or trucks? Parking especially ! would love to learn more about that ! Thanks
I have some planned yes.
I have never heard of such an urban legend but it would suck if that happened and the car that got bumped was on hill. 😄😄😄
From some of the replies on the comments, it seems to be true. But you can't do that on a hill obviously.
Does this still apply to night time? I still trying to practice parallel parking if only I have to park in tight spots when its dark out.
Yes.
Parking is a headache
I swear I saw lady do that to my car she pushed my car. Thank God I was there. Yeah people do put it in neutral.
❤️♥️
What's dry steering?
belq when you steer and the car isn’t moving
👍👍👍👍
Is it legal to remove your plates when you ARE NOT PARKED in the right place? for example a fire hydrant
If you are trying to avoid a ticket - give up. If no plates, Officers can issue the ticket to the VIN. Cover the VIN, and Officers can just tow your car. -Signed, a Retired Cop. P.S. Parking to block a fire hydrant is not only dangerous to others, but just down-right dumb. I've seen fools try this, then a fire occurs and the FD needs to get a hose placed. In one case, they busted out the car windows; in the other, they used a BrushHog vehicle and trashed it by pushing it out of the way (and I heard that the owner's subsequent claim for the FD to repair/replace his vehicle was countered by the DA's threat to charge the owner with felony Reckless Endangering Life by blocking a fire hydrant near an occupied dwelling place - as they had a witness identifying him as the vehicle parker).
I don't get it. Too fast instructions. I cannot park 🙁
(...That is why your video player has a PAUSE setting...)
also were those comments real? lmao
Nah. Just me going crazy.
Fun fact: The taillight at 2:28 is actually a dude.
Lol. True. With a headband.
