Margaret Whiting recorded Moonlight in Vermont in 1943 when she was just 19. Johnny Mercer who was a great song writer became close...he was her mentor. Wrote great songs for her. She looks may be about 20 years older here...around 40 mabe when this was filmed I would say. So maybe around early 60's.
I prefer the 40s version just because that era is more me & her voice isn't quite like back then. Beautiful song. Judging by the hair, this is the 60s.
I grew up hearing that Margaret Whiting was my dad (Allen Parmenter). cousin. I never listened to her much. What's funny is her singing voice sounds very much like my mother's.
"Moonlight in Vermont" was introduced by Margaret Whiting in a 1944 recording with Billy Butterfield's orchestra when she was about 20 years old. It was her first gold disc recording, having sold over a million copies. The lyrics of this song are unconventional in that they do not rhyme, and each verse (not counting the bridge) is a haiku.

The moonlight in Arizona is far superior. A pity there were so few songwriters here to notice it.
Still much prefer her original recording with Billy Butterfield. Don't care for all the variations on the lyrics and so forth. Still the same fine voice, of course.
Margaret whiting is my most favorite singer and kay starr too!! i love this song that
she's singing!!! thank u very much!!!
I had the extreme pleasure of hearing Margaret Whiting perform this song with Bob Crosby Orchestra in 1973. How does she manage to not ever age!
Great singers, they are all gone :(
Flawless, as wonderful as Ella's version, which is saying a lot.
What a treat to see a real vocalist. Thanks for posting.
a favorite song by a favorite singer...
I can't believe how good of voice she's in here.....wow

what a pleasure!
A beautiful woman, and what an amazing voice !! She misses the music world.
No one can do it better than her !
Great voice.
We saw her sing in our small NCO club in Bad Tolz Germany in the middle 60s. She was on tour for American military troops.
No one can do it better man !
What a delightful, rich surprise... Why didn't I hear about this American singing icon when I was coming up?
She was amazing, always enjoying listening to her.

Wow, that was good. Did you also notice you understood every word she sang?
At 73 years old this is my first time. Magical! A big fan from now on. I thought no-one could touch Ella, I was wrong.
WHEN WAS THIS DONE...SHE WAS ONE OF MY FAVORITES...
glorious voice
I'm loving the hair!!
I love her voice.
here we go!!
Wow, they don't make them like this anymore
Wonderful.
Moonlight in Vermont! Sing it now Margaret
The placing of a semi-tone at the end of certain phrasings make the song sound very charming indeed !
I noticed that to!!!! :)
A Great Song Stylist with Panache!
I would have mistook this for Doris day if I'd not seen her perform, so uncanny! Lovely voice
YES

Margaret Whiting performing "Moonlight In Vermont" on The Ed Sullivan Show, June 14, 1970.
She did the definitive version in 1952 with Lou Busch's orchestra, and this one simply doesn't match that, even with her voice still in good form.
I saw her in Milwaukee in four girls four. Met her walking across a bridge and said hello!
great post

Wonderful! Stylish (though she looks a bit like a drag queen..;-)) and so well sung! A real star! Thanks!
Gia Gunn inherited her lashes :')
Gee you're a real complimentary type of guy aren't you?
Not one rhyme in the entire tune. Written by her father.

@@leelarson6534 a brilliant observation spoken apparently by someone who knows nothing
She's no Judy, Ella, Dinah or any of the other girl singers of her Era.
