I can remember as far back as 1969. I remember the oldest subway cars in passenger service were the R1 to 9s. Great video 📹 👍 👏 👌 🙌 😀

I liked riding on the Standards, usually on the LL Canarsie line, and the R1-9's. The R10's were also a favorite of mine taking the A train to Rockaway Beach. Those 3 trains made a certain sound and had a unique smell.
What did they smell like?
@@TRRailfan If I had to describe it, I would say they smelled like axle grease. It wasn't offensive, but as soon as you got on board a Standard or an R9 the smell of grease was there. More so on cold winter days.

The R32 was nicer looking as built with the blue doors. Unfortunately times changed between the 1960s and when they went through GOH in the late 1980s. They were survivor cars for sure.
