Shoutout to big Kat!!🙌🙌 she helped us out a ton with our sweet baby chicks. We are beyond grateful to have such an awesome community of people who are interested in our channel. Thank you to everyone who comments and helps with our farming education every week ❤❤ y'all the real heroes
Here in Trinidad, there is something called pip, which is a bump on the tip of the tongue, using a nail clipper or small scissors and cut it off. Much love from the Caribbean
once let a bunch of eggs hatch and ended up with a BUNCH of roosters...when they got of age, they started picking at my main guy, pictured (in the email sent)...could not bring myself to kill them off, so gradually, they got left outside at night and the predators of the sky got them. Saved a hen once from that hawk. With too many roosters, they compete and hens will stop laying. Just saying.
Matt , check out two wheel electric wheel barrows , it comes as a kit that you install , they can move hundreds of pounds up steep grades, your future body will thank you and you will be much more productive
Not many "content providers" are able to come up with two different and compelling stories but you have. More importantly you are no doubt teaching people to step out of their comfort zone and take a chance in life to do something completely different. Wishing you many years of health and happiness in your new jungle paradise.
With babies you really just have to keep them warm, dry, and check that poop hole. ( they get stopped up easily) and really need to feed Medicated chick food for first month.
Guys be careful with that heat lamp. We get temps in the minus numbers and i only use a regular light bulb for the worst nights for heat. Chickens are hearty. As long as they have a draft free/dry coop, they are usually good. You live in a jungle, man, it cant be that cold there! Wondering if you can move that new coop enclosure close to the other one so you can kinda triple the little yard areas? That bamboo roof looks cool as hell. You are so sweet to your animals. ❤
I hope your chicken person told you that you need to keep new ones cooped up for a couple of weeks before you let them free range. When you do let them out oyster shells are good for their craw and spread what feed you give them out over a large area to encourage them to seek out other sources of feed. Y'all have a long way to go but you'll get there. Your eggs will be almost orange and full of protein. It is refreshing to see young people on a good journey.
Great to see you two again! Beautiful area that you picked. Terrific that you are making progress and treating the young chick. You are especially talented and hard workers with great ideas and the two of you make a terrific couple. BRAVO
The bamboo roof on the chicken coop is beautiful. I'm so happy your feathered baby is doing better you two are going to make amazing parents proud of you two God Bless you 💕
Hey Kat N Matt. Try Diatomaceous earth. Put it in their food, spread in on the ground in the coop and run. It keeps mites, ticks, and internal worms off your pets..
Nice job on the coop door, Matt. Typically for coops, in order to slip in while keeping the chickens in, you make the door open in instead of out. Opening out is an invitation for the little buggers to hop out before you can get in. Not too late to reverse the hinges. Just a thought. Nice job on the sick chick.
You Guys sure don't have to worry about going to the Gym , very motivating , 71 yrs old living in the country on a somewhat ov a Homestead , reminds of my Youth Love you Guys
Matty the inner peice of the bamboo is calllleeeddddd , wait for itttttt , the ( INNER RIB ) . ya ninni. P.S. just love you guys and whet yer doing ...
When you were picking up that bamboo I could just picture a T-rex poking its head around trees to see what the ruckus was. You guys are living a dream. Soo cool. Much respect. Roof gives special ambiance to the chickies. Works, and its a crafting marvel, good job. I cut oriental bamboo back in early 80's, On an abandoned nursery gone wild near Orlando. we cut 30 footers, just wanted the lower 3 feet. At base we laid a hatchet on angle, drove in with hammer. Filled a van with stocks to craft. Daytona boardwalk store. ***A bamboo crafting tip: get a fire going, and take 16 penny nail on some handle, and get it red hot. then push thru for no split nail holes! Works on big holes, too. Red hot sharpened pipe. Same with cutting, easy to burn thru it with an angle grinder with 6" cut-off wheel. No splintering! Make any design on it. And you can deburr/chamfer with the same tool. It's" Naught," not "knot;" or "not." Frank the tank, It is what it is. Best of luck, Adventure onward!
😀👍👍👍❤ Hello again from Seattle, WA. (Northwest USA) Wow 200K subscribers and a lot of useful comments from them as well. This all speaks very highly of the both of you! I always knew Bear had good parents! You both take care and thank you for the great video.
Your love and care for your little chicken really inspires me! Love is what really matters in our life here on earth, and ya all are showing the world a good example! ❤❤❤
You two are killing it in the engineering, design and execution of building the chicken coop! Kristen, the color looks great! It blends with the jungle and the bamboo roof. I love you two and your back and forth banter. Yall both are made for tv. I'm so glad I found your channel. Best of luck for next week!!
As a UA-cam Spanish student, I would recommend "The Language Tutor Spanish", although I use a variety of channels. This guy has a great approach to teaching in a logical order. I have been going through it pretty fast and forget some of it. It's good to follow his advice and really get each lesson down before getting too ahead of yourself. You can practice while you're working and enjoy learning together and with your neighbours. Your lives will be enriched very much after a year or 2 of studying and becoming bilingual. Thanks for the video.
I love how you have taken the time to bring your baby chick back to health. I pray it makes a complete recovery. My wife and I have 2 pet Silkies that mean the whole to us. You guys are awesome, love your new project and wish you the best!

Your resourcefulness, your respect for nature & critters and your vision of a special homestead, all make for a compelling story. Good Puertorriqueños!
Oh my… real world farming happening right in front of us!! GREAT WORK. Nice to have a UA-cam person that can help. Cheers to her! The chicken house looks SUPER. Stay dry ! Cant wait for next Sunday.
Color is great! Painting wood, even treated wood, will make the wood last years longer. Matt, look into a Kreg joiner jig for this butt joints. It will make them way stronger for any size wood and is super quick. Add a cable with a turnbuckle to you door and it will stay square longer. You guys are killing it down there! Can’t wait to see the next episode.
What a heart warming story! I send you both a hug for effort! Little challenges like the chick 🐥 are what makes life exciting and satisfying. Best to you both! Nice job on the roof. Looks great!
Great the way you care about animals in general. You just dont see that so much these days. The color looks good on the coup. Love the idea of a bamboo roof. High five to a great innovative idea.🎉
I like the color Kristin!!!!!! The roof is Very Gilligan's Islandish.....COOL!!!!!! The paint is very Mash 4077ish as well!!!! So they work together well!!!!!!
What a fun and AWESOME video! Love the new coop along with trend setting color, as well as the all out drive in taking care of the chickens! You two are my heroes and absolutely love to watch and learn every week!!! Wishing everyone the best!!!
There is a lot of love going into the “ Coup de Villa “ . I am , like most people I think , drawn into your go for it approach. This is perfectly fine to not be afraid to fail or be perfect . In Japan , they have roofs that last for ever and look similar. They are the masters of building with bamboo. A nice piece of plastic on the cap then covered with bamboo is my jam. I think this will be a great way to massage your skills and designing. Japanese traditional built house is amazing for air flow for heat , water management for a typhoon, very inexpensive and strong. We have traveled to Puerto Rico for a cruise but only had the chance to see old San Juan. What a great place to have a family ,,,,btw Mr. Matt, the reason men like to build is because we can’t give birth! Good luck , good health , and good fortune to you and all you love.
Matt, just don't forget, bamboo is desert for termites, they go after it like kids want icecream. Roofing is ok, but if it gets near the ground the termites get at it pronto.
Matt pre drill the bamboo to help keep it from splitting. They should have a type of county agricultural & forest department agency that can advise you on trees, plants, what U can cut,etc
There is a Master Gardener program at University of Puerto Rico, just like the county extension offices in the states. If I am not mistaken, bamboo CAN be harvested green. I have raised several dozen types here in the states, and harvesting a percentage actually strengthens the rhizomes. The university can advise on that.

The henhouse bamboo roof sounds fantastic! Collecting rain water is genius. Can also use a channel with a tube designated to run directly into water trough, low-laying for the free rangers. Or onto a small Man-made shallow Pond for your ducks and other fowl to Bathe and Drink …nearest the homestead. Find some polywogs (tree frogs) and others goodies for the pond. Soon it will create its own eco system. It does. Have to a large pond. But it’s so beneficial and lovely Theo sit around enjoying the sound of trickling water and at night the frogs will lull you to sleep. I love mine. Oh, and you could add gold fish, but the birds would eat them unless you made hiding places under heavy rocks. The Racoons and Blue Heron keep eating fish… but we don’t have enough Hiding safe-house in there for them, yet, still. Note, best if can, add a pump (even a small one is better than none) to circulate the still water in a pond so that it does not allow for mosquitoes to breed. Mosquitoes breed in stagnant still water, but not if moving/flowing. As I’m watching your process, hoping you add a bamboo-gutter for the inside pen with bamboo opening facing downward. Hahaha, bird-doo colored henhouse. 😂😂😂Kristen is funny
I love watching all of your adventures! I think it is so cool that you are not afraid to tackle new things. Keep up the good work and your undying spirit!! Congrats on your work to save the baby chick!
Hello guys saw your chicken coop build, suggestion any place on the end of your bamboo place some screening over every opening on the bottom, this will stop bird infiltration or bees from building a home in there and you getting stung. FYI
Matt, can I suggest that you spend the time making a workbench for sawing, it will save you a lot of time over the long run, be a lot safer than sawing wood on the ground, and save you from back/knee pain.
Matt, you've done very well to keep that chicken alive. The hardest part of having chickens is when you loose one. I think your chickens hit the lottery when they landed on your farm! Good luck! Thanks for Sharing!

Put some mesh windows in that coop. Chickens need good ventilation.
Looking great so far!
You're like the modern day Tarzan and Jane..Another great video, thanks for taking us on your journey.
WHATEVER U KIDS DO IS AWESOME, DON'T EVER CHANGE WHO U R. LUV U BOTH.

What about making a trough/gutter off the roof to a bucket to supplement water for the birds?

We spray the hole-coop with paraffin , it kills all mites and eggs, is not harmful to you and your birds, and it really does work ❤

Why do chicken coops have two doors? Because if they had four doors, they would be chicken sedans. 🚙 🛺
I would put a cross brace in the door too. Like a Z.

Nice tight job on that door!!!
Maybe a diagonal board from bottom hinge corner to top outside corner? It could keep it strong and tight.
A wire would also work run as suggested.
@@mikefi3257 Oh! That is clever...it is tension though...so maybe that should run from top hinge to bottom outside?
@@BreakingBarriers2DIY Yes, I did mine that way. Used a turnbuckle to adjust it. Worked well on a much bigger gate.

Tip for bamboo roof... do the first layer facing up then a second layer facing down sat into the first row. Rain will run off 99.99% water proof.
The color blends nicely with the cool bamboo roof.
The henhouse bamboo roof sounds fantastic! Collecting rain water is genius. Can also use a channel with a tube designated to run directly into water trough, low-laying for the free rangers.
