Great Dedication to Rashby! Awesome combination of voices - Motty, Ahrele and the Choir. Motty Steinmetz expresses Rabbi Shimon Bar Yochai’s hopes, despairs and pains, thoughts of ten martyrs, disciples of Rabbi Akiva! They were persecuted, tortured, humiliated by the Roman oppressors, but they laughed to the face of their enemies and executors. Those were courageous Israeli and Judean heroes, that was the mutinous time between two wars for Israeli Independence ─ the Maccabean Revolt against the Seleucid Empire (167-160 BCE) led by Judah Maccabeus and Revolt against Romans (132-135) led by Shimon Bar Kokhba. Shimon Bar Yochai was born in Galilee. He was one of the principal pupils of Rabbi Akiva, under whom he studied 13 years at Bnei Brak. Even being on the edge of elimination, valorous Rabbis and Tannaim tried to save Torah scrolls and hid them in the caves of the mountains, for unlike oppressors they knew every cave of their country. Already in the 20th century there were found grandiose libraries of spiritual literature in Hebrew and Aramaic, books of hymns and beautiful poetry. Hasidic musical-poetical tradition occurred to be that spiritual refuge, that mystical cave, having cherished and lovingly preserved those philosophical insights of ancient Israeli heroes-martyrs.
