Vinyl or cd doesn't matter to me. Anyone buying physical copies of albums, as opposed to just Spotifying them is a friend of mine. As an old fart it warms my heart to hear someone so young talk with so much enthusiasm about great music and collecting it. It will no doubt be the start of a lifelong, but very beautiful addiction.
I'm amazed that a young woman with two ears can hear a plethora of incredible music... I hope this doesn't sound sexist or ageist... Keep on exploring... Peace on earth...
I went yah when you pulled up Camel. Love the eclectic bits. Never ignore other genres or artists you may find something that you like or pushes the boundaries of your listening experience.
Nice collection. Nice to see Amon Duul II, Atomic Rooster & Can. And especially pleased to see Focus - they were the band that got me into music in the first place back in 73.
We're all freaks, geeks and music obsessives here..! So glad you're into the mighty ABBA! I've always sworn however, that Waterloo and their selftitled were their peak. In Hearing Of, Bloom.. Parallel Lines, Hunky Dory and Ziggy were also in my original vinyl collection too! Oh, it goes on and on, "Winter Wine"..Moving Waves! I have that Fleet Foxes debut too. Never give too hoots about anyone attempting to look down on you Niamh, some degree of eclecticism is essential and i couldn't imagine you being into any music that was actually bad! I've dipped my toe into modern prog (90s-00s), it's pretty much all in the melodi symphonic prog vein, but when you finally get round to wanting more contemporary buried nuggets, i think you'd like all these. Let's see if the link works. PS and i loved your last two too! rateyourmusic.com/list/SandyMc/fine-modern-prog/
An impressive collection with many great albums to have at home. One can see that you invest a lot of time in your vinyl collection. I like it when young people get interested in vinyl again. Keep up the good work Greetings from Germany 😀
Aloha-loved the fact that you listen to Dream Theater. My favorite PROG bands had been Pink Floyd, Jethro Tull, Focus, Genesis, Yes, Kayak, Camel, King Crimson,Hawkwind, Kansas, ELP, Rush, Gentle Giant, Nektar, Gong, & others. Now since 2000 first my favorite bands are King's X, Transatlantic, Porcupine Tree, Marillion, RPWL, Spock's Beard, Haken, Dream Theater(DT), IQ, The Flower Kings, The Tangent, Arena, Airbag, Mostly Autumn, & others! Love your channel!
I'm so so glad that you have a couple of ( camel ) albums in your collection ( excellent ) > have you ever seen them live on ( sight and sound in concert ) 1978 > i just think Andy Ward is a excellent drummer and Mr Mel Collins just rock that sax ( thank you ) .
Wow!!! What an impressive collection... I can’t wait to see the rest of your collection. Your knowledge for being a young collector is amazing as well.. Have a great day🤘🏻
Just found your great channel, this is my kind of music and I have most of the albums you showed here (yes, including abba & blondie :-) ). I know there's a big debate regarding Genesis Collins/Gabriel eras but (IMHO) you're missing a couple - if you haven't got them then listen to Seconds Out (my favourite live album) and Trick of the Tail - amazing musicianship on both albums. No PG3? (AKA Melt). I guess us music collectors are never satisfied. Keep up the good work.
I am 66 years old, my friends daughter is really into l.p.s. So ,I have a collection from 40 years. I decided to surprise her and gifted the whole collection too her. Lots of great classic rock, country rock, metal. I kept 45 albums. Just her response is enough, for she will cherish them and care for them. I believe there were over 250 albums. Some say I should have sold them, but they will be around for years to come. She has them all catagorized and plays them . Each crate is like a journey for her, that's payment enough for me.
Thumbs up on a lot of the variety and depth to your collection. I would get some of those boxed sets and anniversary editions but I often try and be as practical with my money with bills to pay, etc (and also ask myself, does Rush or Dream Theater need my money as much as a lesser known, younger/newer band?).
Oh dear me , where on earth was moonmadness ? You will be telling me next that Andy Latimore Is an ok guitarist . Only joking . Very interesting vlog . Massive prog fan .
What a fantastic collection you have and thanks for sharing them, you got some top albums there as far as I’m concerned. I only came across your channel very recently and looking round it just want to say all power to you and I have subscribed straight away. You make some great points about record collecting etc in your other posts and how some people seem to forget it’s about music, not what turntable you have or something kind of irrelevant like that. I’m a similar age to your Dad and It’s really refreshing and so good to hear people like you and your Dad who just love music and can talk about it so well. All the best.
To get the price stickers off without damaging the cover, use a hair dryer on the high setting to heat it up for 15-30 sec to soften the glue. Should come off easily.
I must admit I was impressed to see the band Andwella's Dream in your collection. A Magnificent album but I don't own it on vinyl as its fetches for a lot of money allegedly but `I do own it on CD with the other 2 albums by Andwella but Love and poetry is the best.
Great collection! I've been watching your videos and have observed the absence of Cardiacs. If you or your dad haven't heard of them, I'd be surprised. Tim Smith was a genius. Great job with the videos thus far.
Hey Niamh! I just followed your Instagram! I can't wait to see what you post over there as well as here on UA-cam! I loved this showcase! I was so excited when you showed Dream Theater! They are my favorite band and I barely have anything by them on vinyl but have almost everything on CD! Black Clouds is a grail vinyl find for me! I saw the Distant Memories tour as well but I saw them in April of 2019 in PA, USA about an hour away from where I live. That is so cool you saw the actual show that was recorded! I'd love to hear more of that experience! That ELP Waterloo concert was recorded 20-30 mins from where I live! I love Genesis but am slacking so much with owning their works on vinyl and cd! I didn't know there was even a colored pressing of All Things Must Pass but that is cool! This didn't seem rushed to me...this was perfect speed! I really enjoyed this! Looking forward to part 2!
Oh dear. If you're running out of room at your young age, imagine the situation in 20, 30 years. Because I hope you realize you've embarked on a journey that will last a lifetime. :o) Very impressive collection.
ok-not typically in the Prog catalog But.....Elvis Costello-Imperial Bedroom...Mmmnn, That's Great Prog!:-) Really liked your show on that local area's music story/scene btw. ps-Elvis Costello-The Juliet Letters, Bowie's first record, Deep Purple 3, Joe Zawinul-The Rise and Fall of The Third Stream, U2
I’ve been wanting to get some A7X in my collection, but I can never find their vinyl 😩. Neat Sabbath collection! BLONDIE!! BOWIE!! (Sorry had to fangirl a bit). Maggot Brain’s a good album! LOVE THE ‘SO’ ALBUM!! Nice Genesis & Gentle Giant collection! For the stickers on the cover, what I do is take the record + inner out of the jacket and use a hair dryer on heat and it should come off easier! Great video, will definitely watch 2&3 next!
i started collecting 2 years ago i got 250ish records now mostly prog i love the great music im finding and its kool seeing people my age collecting too keep it up :)
You need all the Gentle Giant. It’s all essential. Even Giant for a Day, which I always dunk on, has its moments. I cannot say enough good things about them, they’re my all time favorite prog band.
My fave Prog band as well, but only up to Interview they are essential. Missing Piece is half good while Giant For A Day and Civilian are non-Prog flops
The godamn Minecraft Soundtrack vinyl, I had no bloody idea that thing was existing. Is there one vinly for the Beta Soundtrack too ? Anyway, crazy collection for such young person (damn even got Fripp & Eno, nice)
Good collection for somebody so young. As for getting rid of stickers on album covers, go with a cigarette lighter over the stickers a few times. Don't overdo it because you don't want to set your album on fire of course. But go over it a few times and than gently try to peel it off. Be careful until you're sure that it's working because you don't want to damage your cover. But more often than not it works perfectly.
Good luck with your channel. I've been collecting prog rock for about half a century now (sounds weird to actually say that out loud!) so I'm about your dad's age. Two recommendations: England "Garden Shed" (UK) and Cathedral "Stained Glass Stories" (USA) Although both might be a little difficult to find on vinyl they will certainly be worth the search. Cheers!
I just stumbled across your channel today and liked what you're doing.. gotta say you got a nice collection.. Even tho i'm more into (black-) metal, you really got some nice classics there! Greetings from germany^^
Hi Niamh, what a wonderful collection you have right now. I see you take great care of it. You have have done amazingly well in the VC in a short time which is a credit to your knowledge and presentation :)
Nice collection. You are clearly looking after your albums which is important.Strong prog leaning, but not exclusively.Fripp and Eno stands out as different.Youbmaybe should explore Eno recordings and productions Don't make the mistake of spending all your money on softwear I.e.records.Save and upgrade your system. You'll find you'll fall in love with those older records all over again. Thanks for sharing.
Just stumbled on your channel Your wearing a sweatshirt of Yes Your Instagram has a pic of Gabriel so cool ...in 2021 who are you !! I saw Genesis in 74 at the University of Montreal awesome live , Yes, Floyd the Dark side of the moon concert , also in 76 the Animals concert, ELP, King Crimson, Gentle Giant, Supertramp, Manfred Mann. Gonna subscribe so cool.
Wow, worth watching just for those Beatles box sets! Although I do have all their albums, it's not in the nice box set you have. A mish mash of different pressings from different eras. I do have both the White Album and Abbey Road box sets you showed and those are fantastic. I held out for good prices on both on ebay (think the White Album was $60ish and Abbey Road was $40ish)... both seem to go for quite a bit now. Bowie is an artist I've never really gotten into. I have Changes One and Two, oh and Let's Dance, and that's probably enough for me. I do also have Heroes but wasn't planning to keep it since the title track is the only one I can really get into. Can't beat a bit of Def Leppard. I regard Hysteria as one of the best albums ever made. Black Moon is the only ELP album I own. Very different to their earlier stuff but I love several of the songs on there. Thanks for showing, Niamh!
Being 65 this takes me back. I am happy you are enjoying prog-rock. However, new vinyl is too expensive for me and I prefer buying CDs now. And these days it is not just prog-rock but also jazz and modern classical so CD is the format for me. Also easier to store.
If you're not familiar with them try All Them Witches. 'Dying Surfer Meets His Maker' is probably the best album to start with even if you dont hear any others. Probably need to mail-order it though. But it truly is a fantastic, beautiful album.
Great collection, didn't see any Hawkwind - I'm a big fan of the album Levitation which is synth heavy (and heavy musically) but has some great grooves. I'm sure you know them though.
Was interested to see the Bowie albums, but intrigued as to why you don't own Diamond Dogs, as this was probably the nearest Bowie got to prog. What do you think ?
You might want to check out the brazillian artist Caetano Veloso. There's an album from 1969 with a white cover from 1969 on Phillips records. It should be still available. I highly recommend his work.
I saw Green Day before anyone knew who they were. They were one of 10 bands that played in a real funky place in Guerneville California. They were the stand out band of the night.
Impressive collection. I thought of a good album you might be interested in but as you've not gone through the full collection you might have it. Anyway it's Purson - The Circle and the Blue Door.
Wow, love that Andwellas Dream. Nice collection. The Arctic Monkeys were one of my first bands that introduced me in to rock music. Their early stuff was amazing. By the way, do you prefer coloured vinyl to black vinyl? All the best, Chris
I don’t have a preference! If I saw a coloured vinyl copy of an album I like I’d pick it up for sure but if the standard black vinyl was cheaper I’d have to say I’d take the easy way out!
That AC/DC Bon Scott comp looks sick! I need to beef up my A7X collection, they just reissued City of Evil for its anniversary. You are killing it with the colored variants! I am a huge sucker for them. Awesome to see you repping Ace Frehley! Original guitarist of my favorite band! Loooooove that Focus album! I must ask which outer sleeves do you use to store your albums? They look very sturdy! Awesome vid!
Thank you! I have different types of outer sleeves, when I first started getting vinyl at HMV they sold these really sturdy ones for 75p which I always got, then when they shut we got these less sturdy but still good quality ones and then unfortunately we got these ones that are in fact made for packaging rather than storing!
Check out Black Sabbath - Never Say Die. Very underrated final Ozzy outing. Also check out Fruupp - Modern Masquerades awesome Irish Prog from the mid seventies.
Great show nice music taste for your age a girl after my own heart not a big prog fan but I do like some of it mainly genisis and yes I like mainly rock & blues Paul from Stoke
Great video! Why Artic Monkeys is a shock and not Abba lol? Amon Dull was a suprise actually, well done. You don't like the Dio era?The Bowie Reality box is excellent, great performance, nice to see Fleet Foxes their first three albums are great. As a genesis fan Seconds Out is the live album to get
Are you familiar with Ayreon, the project from Dutch composer Arjen Lucassen? If not, grab your dad and watch “The Day The World Breaks Down”, and after that, the live version of “Everybody Dies” from the Ayreon Universe concert. You should be hooked by then ;-) He basically makes double LP concept albums, often with loads of musicians (both singers and instrumentalists). He managed to get Bruce Dickinson for a song, got Rick Wakeman to do a solo on one of his other songs, and plenty of others! His music is a good central hub to learn about new musicians and singers and then expand outwards. And on a solo project he has a song called “Pink Beatles In A Purple Zeppelin” so you get an idea which bands have been influential for him. Enjoy!
You have a far greater tolerance for Live albums than I do. I have over 25,000 records and about 10 of them are Live albums. Encore by Argent and Live in the Air Age by Be Bop Deluxe are a couple of terrific proggish albums.
WOW,rushed you were like a train coming down the tracks,,hahaha the caravan in the land of grey and pink,i was going to ask you if you had heard it on your next vlog and there you were you have it hahaha..stay safe and get some sleep,KTF oh fleetwood macs then play on is epic. George harrison on colored vinyl where did you get that?????? im bummed!
awesome! nice " made in japan ". i have the 4 cd box which is amazing. what dream theater do you recommend starting with? I never got into them, not because i didn't like them . i was just into other stuff at the time. once you're done with the room. pls do a downstairs vid. cheers!
I'd like to hear what you have to say about In The Land Of Grey And Pink. It is a record I've thought about getting but I'm not sure what I think about the Canterbury Scene. I would appreciate your insights. Cheers
Love seeing young people into vinyl, great collection!
Its gold!!!! Amazing thing
I'm amazed that a young woman with two ears
can hear a plethora of incredible music...
I hope this doesn't sound sexist or ageist...
Keep on exploring...
Peace on earth...
I am amazed that a young music fan has amassed such an impressive record collection already. Excellent stuff here.
I went yah when you pulled up Camel. Love the eclectic bits. Never ignore other genres or artists you may find something that you like or pushes the boundaries of your listening experience.
You make us proud. We are from a time that few people care to listen to prog rock anymore. Don’t let our music die. Long live Rock and Roll
Have most of those mostly second hand In the past 20 yrs or so Ive lived close to many record stores Thank for turning me on the Beach house
As far as Atomic Rooster goes, their album Death Walks Behind You is a masterpiece.
It certainly is!!!
Nice collection. Nice to see Amon Duul II, Atomic Rooster & Can. And especially pleased to see Focus - they were the band that got me into music in the first place back in 73.

I remember enjoying two "E" albums by the band, Egg. The first is titled "Egg". The second is called "The Polite Force".
...what about the third album? It is good too (i don't remember the title, but that doesn't mean it's bad)
hello the title for the third album is the civil surface ;-)
You mean there's more to guitar music than Metallica's Master Of Puppets album ?
'Arrival' by ABBA starts off my collection too haha! Love all of your Beatles related stuff ❤️
Thank you!
An impressive collection with many great albums to have at home. One can see that you invest a lot of time in your vinyl collection.
I like it when young people get interested in vinyl again.
Keep up the good work

I started when I was 15. Now I'm old and still collecting. Nice to see it living on.
Impressive collection progressive mind and soul!!! I love your t shirt as well! Prog on take care....
Oh dear me , where on earth was moonmadness ? You will be telling me next that Andy Latimore
Is an ok guitarist . Only joking . Very interesting vlog . Massive prog fan .
I am confident that Moonmadness will at the appointed time arrive in this exceedingly intelligent young lady's collection.
PS Sorry about the current 8 dislikes Niamh. Punks probably.
What a fantastic collection you have and thanks for sharing them, you got some top albums there as far as I’m concerned. Storming vinyl collection! One band I thought you might have on vinyl is Greenslade.....or is that downstairs 😊
I agree, their first 3 albums are essential Prog
Great collection! I've been watching your videos and have observed the absence of Cardiacs. If you or your dad haven't heard of them, I'd be surprised. Tim Smith was a genius. Great job with the videos thus far.
Hi I've just found your channel, as a prog rock fan I wanted to say how much I enjoy your videos and all your music choices. Long may it continue 😁
Love the collection videos. I collect music as well. I was hoping you collected The Cure or Eurythmics though.
A fantastic selection of vinyl records! Great to see Abba in there as well as all the classic rock and prog albums you are gathering
Hey Niamh! I just followed your Instagram! I can't wait to see what you post over there as well as here on UA-cam! I loved this showcase! I was so excited when you showed Dream Theater! Killer shirt! Tell Dad to buy you Yes, “Fragile” MoFi One Step Ultradisc. IT’S AMAZING!!! Best sounding lp in my collection
Some Blue Öyster Cult and more Atomic Rooster,oh,and Quark ,Strangeness and Charm by Hawkwind.
Yes I say yes!
Oh dear. If you're running out of room at your young age, imagine the situation in 20, 30 years. Because I hope you realize you've embarked on a journey that will last a lifetime. :o) Very impressive collection.
Invest in some poly-lined inner sleeves; those paper ones that come with the albums scratch the hell out of the vinyl.
This right here. Inner sleeves are so important
The thing is that I felt, saw ,concerts mosh pits and all when they all first dropped!!Man was it a time!! U are awesome 👌
ok-not typically in the Prog catalog But.....Elvis Costello-Imperial Bedroom...Mmmnn, That's Great Prog!:-)
Really liked your show on that local area's music story/scene btw.

I have been looking for that Omar Rodriguez Lopez & John Frusciante on vinyl for years. Got the cd when it came out. Great video here.
nice collection,
I like your shirt from YES and Roger Dean posted
Nice collection, looking forward for the next part, keep them spinning.
Hi Niamh, what a wonderful collection you have right now. I see you take great care of it. You have have done amazingly well in the VC in a short time which is a credit to your knowledge and presentation :)
Thank you so much!
So...you are missing Low, Highway to Hell, Peter Gabriel's third album-good collection! Oh, Pet Sounds-you really need that one!

H is for Hammill- Peter Hammill. Fool's Mate, Back Box, Silent Corner. A tiny portion but must have albums for any Prog fan.

I have the Rush 2112 Live on blue splatter 10” vinyl. It’s the same pressing company as the ac/dc one. They’re awesome
Very cool that you have a Can album you don't see that a lot in the VC. Really nice collection enjoyed the video

In the 'A' s Niamh , check out any album by ARGENT if you want some classic English prog / rock Especially ' In Deep ' (1973) or 'Nexus ' (1974).
Niamh, you are fantastic!!!
Amazing.The best room ever too
Perfect collection :D Greetings from Poland :D I love you in your chanel
I saw Green Day before anyone knew who they were. They were one of 10 bands that played in a real funky place in Guerneville California. They were the stand out band of the night.
Impressive collection. I thought of a good album you might be interested in but as you've not gone through the full collection you might have it. Anyway it's Purson - The Circle and the Blue Door.
So cute makes my heart feel like im about to literally fall in love while skydiving
I haven't got a single vinyl album, but it seems that if I had a vinyl player, we would have almost the same albums!😂
Great collection! Great video!
As a genesis fan Seconds Out is the live album to get
I love dio on his own more than with sabbath
@@the_prog_nerd I like his first two solo albums and some of the Dream Evil..but I prefer him in Sabbath and specially in Rainbow
Abba? And Arrival?? Like seeing a mirage of ice bears in Sahara.. those being out of money, money, money of course.. (outherwise, good work).
Love it the ac/dc at River Plate because I was recorder in my country Argentina!
Amon Duul II - Yeti. Have you heard Wolf City & Carnival In Babylon?
Wolf City is awesome! My favorite.
Wolf City is truly a Krautrock masterpiece
@@marcelob4132 My favorite Amon Duul II album is Phallus Dei.
Being from Chicago (Illinois) I have to ask, do you like Starcastle? Especially earlier stuff?
Funkadelic! Love it 👍🏻
Are you familiar with Ayreon, the project from Dutch composer Arjen Lucassen?
Live in the air age is one of the best live albums ever
Awesome!!! Thanks for sharing!
LOVING YOUR COLLECTION!!!❤👍🤘
Nice to see Kate Bush in your collection. I think she's great. The Dreaming is my favorite album from her. very progressive in my opinion.
I l9ve her face expressions. And gestures, so relaxing

George harrison on colored vinyl where did you get that?????? im bummed!
Thank you! I got it on discogs, it’s a Japanese pressing!
awesome! nice " made in japan ". i have the 4 cd box which is amazing. what dream theater do you recommend starting with? I never got into them, not because i didn't like them . i was just into other stuff at the time. once you're done with the room. pls do a downstairs vid. cheers!
For dream theater, I recommend starting with ‘Scenes From a Memory’ it’s their most proggy and accessible album
thx!
I'd like to hear what you have to say about In The Land Of Grey And Pink. It is a record I've thought about getting but I'm not sure what I think about the Canterbury Scene. I would appreciate your insights. Cheers
It’s a brilliant album definitely worth a listen. As for the Canterbury scene I haven’t delved into it just yet but I’m getting there!
An excellent record and a great introduction to Caravan! highly recommended.Just my two cents!
Love Aladdin Sane! Featuring my ex girlfriend’s father on piano, Mike Garson😉
Lovely selection of records.
