A community garden if properly tended can raise an amazing amount of food. I remember growing up my Church had a garden which was maybe 100 x 100 feet and we all took turns taking care of it and every year there were more vegetables than we knew what to do with.
Yes, and the average lifespan of Rural Americans are nearly 10 years shorter than those in Northern Urbanized areas. Life expectancy in New York = 82 years old Life expectancy in West Virginia = 73 years old.
It’s all economics. Big chain grocery stores can’t meet their profit goals in low income poverty areas. Plus crime, theft and security costs in these areas immediately rule them out. In Chicago the city literally had to bribe a big grocery store to go into a poor area. Lord only knows how much the store was given of taxpayer money to open. But I heard that they are already considering closing after only a couple three years due to crime and violence around the store.
I saw a Walmart coordinately get looted by almost 200 people in a 15 minute span. They rushed the store all at once. This was not during any protest or riot or whatever they are calling them these days. This was youths just looting to loot. The city government wouldn’t let Walmart in any other part of the city until they had one in the most impoverished, and more importantly high crime areas of the city.
Mob lootings like that are becoming more common, where dozens of people swarm like locusts on a store and strip it clean of all things worth stealing, destroy the rest, leaving the store devastated. Mob looting is coordinated on cell phone, emails, FaceBook, Twitter, and messaging. Police hardly care because politicians turn a blind eye.
I wonder why people and companies don't want to open stores in this area? Is it because they are so racists they would turn down the income from new stores? Or is it because it is literally impossible to make a profit with constant theft? Hmmm.......hard decision to make....
In Helsinki, Finland, where I live there's 5 grocery stores under 1 miles radius from my apartment. Grocery stores are everywhere in Finland. How can it be that there is not enough of places to buy fresh and good food in many areas of the USA?
Grocery stores get robbed blind in certain areas because the people there would rather steal then pay for food, even though they get plenty of free food benefits. The theft is so bad that the store has to close - no profit.
@@Feanor1169 that's not what statistics show. DO. YOUR. RESEARCH. data in dc do not show that crime is a contributing factor to grocery stores closing down. it is not even in the top 5 reasons researchers and public health experts mention.
Yup. They won’t just say it. The company’s will not invest because of theft and crime. They can’t operate at a loss. Period. No other way to say it but saying it would be ‘racist’. Facts are facts. Numbers don’t lie
Funny thing: there is never a beer, wine or liquor desert. Nobody has to go far for that. Democrats make sure these folks there remain poor, in need and dependent.
I was thinking, maybe an idea would be for people to buy frozen food or freeze it themselves the leftover, that way they can have a stock of good vegetable and fruits in their freezer, so they eat more fruit and vegetables. Legumes when bought dry can keep for a long time and can be hydrated and then boiled for good nutrients, like protein and fibers.
The problem is that these communities don't have grocery stores where they can just buy a bunch of frozen vegetables from either. And prepackaged frozen fruits and veggies are often a lot lower in quality than fresh fruits and veggies from a supermarket. And buying dehydrated fruits and veggies and trying to rehydrate doesn't work that well. You can lose a lot of nutrients if done improperly and it doesn't have the same flavors that make it palatable.
Okay, so you say there is systemic discrimination thats causing these food deserts but then dont even explain it with details and examples? confusing...
It’s not discrimination. They are failing to say why these stores don’t stay. Theft. Period. They can’t operate at a loss. Can’t expect them to operate without making a profit. That’s the main reason. The company’s won’t invest because of crime and theft. Why won’t they just say it?
Big companies or big store company doest care the health people those they are customer just they care theire own mony those have or wealthy people they are eating organic food god protect poor people
The underlying assumption here is that major grocery chains are intentionally forgoing profits they could realize in these areas. If big business is "greedy", why would they do that? Isn't it more rational to assume that if large grocery chains could sell into these areas and earn a profit, like they do anywhere else, they would? Either experience, or market research, tell grocery chains that the populace in these areas does not tend to buy "healthy food". Because if they did, someone would provide it. The desire for profit by providing things people need, for less than it cost you to obtain those things, is an irresistible force for a business.
@Craig Schultz You're right, Craig. And it's my mission to use these spaces to ask people questions which they've probably never heard before. Because the only way we're ever going to wake up the SJW, is to illuminate their minds to reality, ask intelligent questions, and guide them to the actual truth. That's our challenge, Craig. SJWs are generally decent people, they've just not been exposed to reason very often.
Actually, the point here is that they are forgoing having stores in these areas because they don't wish to be in these communities. Businesses make choices as to where they want to be and these are not a matter of profit but preference. As the saying goes, racism trumps capitalism.

So what I see here is supply and demand problem. You Americans love your junk food so shops don’t stock basic fruit and veg because you don’t buy it right? You’d rather have a gun shop and mc d’s.
But this is the problem with the environment you're brought up in. It's not Americans fault they're raised in a country where fast food is everywhere, this is just what appears to be normal to them. If this is what is available and all your friends and family eat it then I can see how this happens. If you're raised in a blue zone area then that diet is what you're used to.
