This all-too-short documentary does provide some interesting info and glimpses into that fascinating place. For example: I never knew that Washington Square Park, where I've sat on benches and, entranced, watched the human circus passing around me, was once both a potter's field and an execution ground. I ❤️ New York. Being there gives one the sensations of being involved in something vast, ineffable, and profound. If you haven't strolled the streets of the Village, go there soon. Thanks, Paul.
The Park is haunted. It's known to all residents. The ghosts are friendly, and really like it when music is played in the Park. When we get up a group sing a long, the crowd feels bigger than it is. Locals report being brushed by someone, and nobody's there. Folks also tell of feeling crowded in the group, but .. Nobody behind you. Just the local ghosts trying to get closer to the music.

How are you doing sir I didn’t send comments to your channel from long time thank you for your cultural documentary channel iam subscriber to several British and American UA-cam channels i learned there are in England Lake District known as lake of poets and right now there are green which village historic district for famous artists and writers in USA iam Arabic lady citizen we are as foreigners subscribers as overseas students want to increase our cultural level improve our English language as well so that I gathered key points about topic you mentioned briefly here it’s green which village is located on west side of town in New York City borough of Manhattan it’s has become one of best known areas of New York and great place for people and artists to live became known as bohemian capital where people explored unconventional lifestyles throughout 19 th century.
It's spelled Greenwich, but pronounced "Grennich". I 'm a long time resident, and love Arabic music. I'm one of those "oddball artists" you've heard of. American born, Irish family, and yes, I know the work of Umm Kulthum. Please come and visit The Village!
Nice documentary punctuated by some outstanding readings. It was a pleasure seeing so much of Galway Kinell; I hope his section gets made into its own GK-titled video. The Abstract Expressionist painters, Pollock, deKooning et al, seem a pretty large omission. In the 80s I made out with a girlfriend in Washington Square Park on a few occasions and almost got shot there once.
This was made the year I graduated high school and also the first time I ever visited New York City although I did not go to the village until a while later. Louis Auchincloss I like. I've read a handful of his stories. And although I'm from the south and from the working class, his rich New York society narratives were not alienating.

Your documentaries are SO GOOD. I love the business model of getting older, out of copyright documentaries and republishing them. Thank you
I was impressed by the well produced content and cogent narrative but the Haitian man story spoke to me. Thank you for your time and effort !
Awesome content, simply the best channel on this platform. Highest Marks. 🥳

Enjoyed this so much!
Wonderful to look back. Sad to see those Twin Towers that stand no longer, against the same shade of perfect blue as on September 11, 2001.
Lovely.
Well done.
Thank you.

Isaiah Sheffer, Rest in Peace.
The content was wonderful but the music was too loud and sometimes overpowered the narrator
That wretched MUSIC is IRRITATING - drowning words of wisdom. Whose idea is it? The producer???
Interesting for the first 75%...falls apart w long-winded readings by writers.
The interviews are irrelevant, making poor this video.
It is not a good documentary.
