I Got Lost In Louisiana For A Week. This Is What I Saw.

- Oh my gosh! You never know what you'll see when you get back into the Louisiana backroads.
If you’ve ever been to Louisiana, you probably went to New Orleans, got drunk, got back on your plane and left. If you did that, you missed out on a whole lotta stuff.
When I first got to Louisiana, of course I did that New Orleans thing. But only for a couple days. Then, I took off and headed up through cajun country, into the woods, over the river, past all the farmland and Shreveport and into Arkansas. The whole trip took 5 days.
And boy did I see a lot. And they sure were nice days for Louisiana backroadin. Partly cloudy and 75 degrees in the springtime.

A 6 piece crawfish had me dying 🤣🤣. One thing I’ll add, you said, they put more emphasis on hunting and fishing than education… education is a broad term. You need to be taught the things it takes to thrive in your environment, we might not do so well in a big city, but on the water we survive on things that some pay $35 a plate to eat in a fancy restaurant.
Amen.
$35? Most of those fools pay a lot more than that 😂
@@franzgeil422 Nick needs to come back now, August season just started…(white shrimp)
It really bothers me that Nick said people in Louisiana pay more attention to hunting fishing and not on education. Shame on you Nick. Hunting and fishing is in our blood. Education is extremely important to us. As far low income families and drug abuse another shame on you. Tell me something where do you live. I guess no poor families (your words not mine) in your city, no drug abuse and heaven forbid no prisons.
It’s a sad day when a grown man makes money on U-Tube put down Louisiana
Yea he is tripping for real lmao,,, nah he has a point but what place isn’t like that , we are messed up half the population gives a dam the other half of the state don’t , and the criminals come from lack opportunity , right now teenagers see way more money looking in the streets than a job who only wants to work you 20 hours a week
I was born and raised in Louisiana and the folks are great.
Me too! Raised in Lafayette and went to high school in Lake Charles… college in Ruston. I married a military man, and live in Nebraska now, but miss Louisiana every day. Those damn hurricanes… The only reason we can’t go back. Nicest people in the world.
Bonjour voisin
My son lives in New Orleans. First time I went down there from my home state of Washington, I was amazed at how friendly he people were, no matter if they were black or white, just nice people, so different from Washington State.
It’s the people that make Louisiana a special state.
We really all do love each other down here❤
Thats cool I am from Washington my EX was from LA we visited a few times awesome people bro inlaw also from there
@@BayoubebeWhat area you from? I'm in Houma😊
@@JuicyPeaches504 I’m in Houma also😃
@@Bayoubebe oh wow that's crazy!! I seen a comment on another video of his where you mentioned you were 40 minutes southwest of New Orleans and I was like hey that's where I'm at lol!!
This is fascinating! I like the profiles on smaller places. Cities are interesting, but the people in the backwoods have a lot to say! 😄Thank you Nick! Your videos are always on point! I’m a huge fan!✨💛
Ok Kate!

Correction, Louisiana is not where slavery was "born".
Slovenia is where the word slave comes from. Africa was and is the capital of slavery. I'm sure you heard the Egyptians had their slaves build the pyramids. To this day there is still mass slavery in Africa.
@@mapexzildjian6361 you're absolutely correct about your, post on slavery, it's still going on to this day, I can buy a wife for 2 Grand here in Cleveland Ohio ‼️👍
the guy eating the chicken is the best😁 that’s some good, wholesome Louisiana!
That was the best chicken I've ever had do you agree lolly?
@NickJohnson south Louisiana people are not rednecks they're coonasses
See my comment above about that Man. Much respect and appreciation for Him.
C'est Louisiana madame
Watching a guy eating gizzards talking with his mouth full was gross, even if he was friendly.
I’m 72 , borne and raised in Shreveport. You did a very good job crisscrossing Sportsman Paradise and sharing a quick glimpse of our colorful state. Thank you!
Bonjour mes voisin du nord.
It's nice to hear from good people in a world that looks not so good sometimes. Also the lumber mills in Canada have been closing down sense the 90's(from the East coast to the West coast). It's been bad for small towns that depended on that one or two saw mills for work. Building is still happening so all the lumber is coming from somewhere.
Trump put a tax on Canadian lumber coming to the U.S. also
Probaly china.
YOU just make my day! I enjoy your travels so much...thanks!
Nick, I ALWAYS laugh so hard whenever Mappy chimes in! I’ve learned a lot from your videos and enjoy the comedy extras!
Thank you for highlighting my home state!
Any time!
You are a kind (and very entertaining) person. You have such “nice” things to say about “stuff”.
In my experiences in Louisiana here is how I rate it. Great people, great food and great fishing. For you hunters out there.....Great hunting as well.....from what the great people have told me.
Went to Lake Martin, LA. What a great experience! Great folks for sure!
Depending on where you go in Louisiana it can seem like a different state or even country. I've lived in the Shreveport-Bossier area for decades, recently moved to East Texas.
Shreveport has become very dangerous.
Ive lived in Longview for 45 years. Shreveport has always been dangerous.
@@shawnmeyer2788
Yeah, in the 80s Shreveport wasn't great but it's a different kind of dangerous for the last 20 or so years.
Last time I was in Shreveport was in the early eighties, I don’t remember being scared, but we were young and we all drank. We moved from Detroit to Lake Charles and people offered us alcohol everywhere we went!! 💕
Bonjour mes ami

✨🌹 Bonjour... 😊
If there ever is a total grid failure, the people in Louisiana will survive. They can take the heat and they provide food for themselves either for recreation or out of necessity.
You were in my neck of the woods literally! You went to some great places. Thanks for sharing your experiences!
I just spent 2 weeks doing a southern states tour. The people there are so nice. They greet ya a lot. Not shy to talk to ya. Nothing like here in Washington state. I'm originally from Virginia and miss the southern hospitality.
Nick I keep telling folks to watch your videos so they can see how other cities are.
Like what's happening in California and Washington. Georgia and other places.
South Omaha is changing Nick. It's scaring the hell outta many of us.
My gosh, what is happening to our country?
😢
Ask Mappy what in the sam hell is going on around here!?!?
Mappy says he's sad too 😢
Oh no! We're getting ready to move off of Oahu after being here for 20 years and Omaha was one of the two places were are considering. (the other is Sioux Falls, SD). Hope nothing too bad is going on there!
@@mellowmoods8393 quite the change in climate 😭
One word - democrats. Everywhere they are is the same. CA, IL, NY, The city-states within almost every state and sadly the country as a whole after 12 brutal recent years of them in the white house.
A game warden caught a cajun hunter shooting falcons . He told the hunter that falcons were endangered and illegal to hunt . The cajun told him he didn't know . The game warden said , look I'll make a deal with you , if you tell me what falcons taste like i will only write you a warning . The cajun said , they taste kinda like a pink flamingo mixed with a bald eagle .
C'est non pas bonne .
Nice, Mappy has an LSU cap. Thanks for showing us the good side of this Deep South gem.
Insightful, interesting, informative, funny video as usual from Nick. I always feel uplifted after seeing his travel videos. Really like when he talks to residents. Thanks!
Born and raised in the bayous of S La but left for NC after Hurricane Katrina and never looked back. I’d say your video was an accurate portrayal of life there. It’s an interesting place to visit but you don’t want to live there.
I’m tired of the hurricanes too, want to move, but don’t know where to go…scared I’ll miss it honestly
@@Bayoubebe funny thing, some people can’t leave. If you have strong family ties and love the culture I could see it. For me I don’t even like to visit anymore. There’s plenty of places in the world that are worth visiting to see how you’d fit in.
Bonjour mes voisin
Nick I’ve been watching your videos for years. I’m from Shreveport and have lived in California since 2005 when I joined the Marines. Shreveport holds a place in my heart though it’s a tragedy to go home and see the city turn into what it has. You didn’t show much about Shreveports downtown with all the casinos and riverboats. Thank you for Sharing.
From Ville Platte!!! Now in Pittsburgh,PA. Awesome accurate video! Thanks Nick
Bonjour !!!!!!!!
Hi Nick! I watched this video yesterday but was on the move so didn't have a chance to comment. This is a great video and really gives some background on the people you meet when you really go beyond the main streets. I know their life is not what everyone, or even myself would enjoy but to see them continuing their lifestyles from generations ago is really uplifting.
I know when I click on your videos I will always be entertained and might even learn something.
Haha 👍
That looks like the most wonderful place.
Actually, we have a lot of people hunt and fish in North Carolina, at least where i live. They hunt the deer and rabbits. And I think I'll pass on the crawfish. I went to Louisiana 20 years ago to visit my brother while he was stationed at Ft. Polk befor he went to Iraq and watched him eat a whole big plate of crawfish. I have a picture of it too. It was a nice trip though.
More crawfish for us 🤷🏾♂️
You should try it
Oh my gosh, I'm in N. Texas an La has amazing Crawfish.
It's an event we wait all year for.
Coo Yah ! Ecravisse ,,,gran bon temps tujour !

And seafood also my favorite stop on the road is Scott Louisiana the best Boudan sausage 😋
Billy’s ftw!!
Gran boudin , verite mes ami .
The people in South Louisiana drink more than the rest of the South because of their French heritage. The French Creoles in New Orleans used to have literally all-night parties in the 1700s.
Bonjour Mes amis ! Parlez nous a boire . C'est Louisiane
I kayaked 2 major rivers in Louisiana, I love being out in the state's wilderness. Great adventures await those willing to go
"you ever eat frog"? "no, not really". Trust me Nick if you had gas station meat pie in Louisianna then you've eaten frog! 🤣
fried frog legs are quite tasty!
Redeep
They wouldn't put frog in a meat pie. You get a lot more meat off a cow then a frog 🙄
Frog legs are too damn expensive to put in a meat pie. Meat pies use beef. Frog legs are fried. Plus the meat is totally different. You'd very much be able to tell.
Coo Yah ! ourourons frites
7th generation New Orleanian here. I know Nola, Baton Rouge, Lafayette and points south like the back of my hand from years of fishing and goof off road trips. Thing makes me so sad about Louisiana is since Huey Long days, politicians have sold us out at every turn to oil and chemical companies, raping the land, throwing a few bucks at the locals, then moving on. With zero emphasis on a GOOD school and education system, the populace has more of a live for today attitude. So with ignorance, the big companies come in a beat folks out of mineral rights or don’t adhere to pollution standards because they know they’ll be gone in 20+ years and law suits at that point are cheaper to settle than doing it right to begin with.
Wow 👆👆👆❤️❤️
Bonjour voisin !
Raised in North Louisiana (Monroe, Ouachita Parish) and currently live in Hebert, Caldwell Parish. No place in the USA like Louisiana. I love it!!!
I also love living in Louisiana. I'll never leave.
Moved from California to Louisiana big culture shock but I’m still here😂
I live a few miles outside Alexandria . I was stationed here for 4 years in the early 80s .After living in Las Vegas for 34 years I decided to come back when I retired for good in 2020. People , food and the general quality of life here are great .

Why are some of the houses sitting on bricks? No basements at all?
No basements here, water table is right under our feet. You know that us Cajuns are actually from Nova Scotia, maybe that the connection😊

My great grandma was born and raised in Shreveport Louisiana. I can remember her telling me how she had to sneak on the train with her baby. Black people weren't allowed on the trains in those times. She came to California and made a life for herself. She owned a beaty salon and bar. She was also a landlord and a caretaker for children until they were adopted by families... and last but not least she was not only my great grandma but also my guardian and my 3 other siblings ❤️ RIH GRANDMA
I thought it was funny when the guy in the truck gave Nick that look after he asked "do you like frog legs?"and Nick said no, he was like "well WTH do you eat?!"

Hi!!! I was born in 1949 in a Thibodaux hospital. Mom and Dad took me home to my 4 siblings in Galliano. On Bayou Lafourche. I still live here. I do a lot of traveling, but this will always be home. I still live in the house we built in 1973/74, with my husband of 53 years (a Vietnam veteran). What I want to say is that if you did not make it to Bayou Lafourche on Hwy 1, 308 or 3235 all the way to Grand Isle, well, in my opinion you have not met a real Cajun. JS. Come on back and find some fantastic home cooked food. And lots of friends! IDA did not push us away! My house had no damage. 49 years strong.
Just last month, from NYC, I visited Baton Rouge LA, Tallahassee FL, and Huntsville AL, all were good places to visit, and the people were all friendly.

YOU ARE SO HILARIOUS!!!!! 😍
Here is something wild: the entire point of the original Star Wars is hearing hearing messages from the other side (Source). The plot point revolves around Obi-Wan Kenobi allowing Vader to strike him down. This is so he could communicate with Luke from the other side mentally, and teach him about The Force, which is consciousness itself.
This idea is all over music as well. Pearl Jam, for instance, has a song on their latest album Gigaton called “Who Ever Said”. It’s about telepathy with the spirit world. I always thought “Even Flow” was about that subject as well. Now, I am almost certain.
Nirvana - Lithium, 311 - Large In The Margin, Alice In Chains - Voices, Puscifer - Telling Ghosts, Tool - Undertow, Stone Temple Pilots - Where The River Goes, Styx - Come Sail Away (all examples)
