what's up with that driver sound when he hits the putter lmao
The fact he shot a 71 while putting on those greens is wild
Awesome - Love the video. Congratulations Derek!
Nice to see our little course getting some love! There are a few quirks to it. It’s actually on airport property. haha
One guy has a winter hat and others have T-shirts. Classic!
Guess I know where I’m going for local next year!
Alex Spicer I was thinking the same thing..
Brilliant!!!; Stunning scenery, would like to play there one day
It's a shame that they play the US Open so early in the year, courses in Alaska must be barely open for the qualifying
Half the field didn’t survive the Grizzlie Bea....eehm, cut.
Congrats Derek!
Omg the mountains and this whole video 😭🥰
Yeah..sure. "Derek O'Neill" I know Ryan Moore when I see him..
I thought the same thing lol
Must be super cold n snow every where! !!!
Didn't know they had golfers way up there. Thought there would be still snow at this time of year.
Southern Alaska by BC is usually pretty nice temperature wise in the summer. Just cloudy and rainy
Next year there will be 50+ people at this event
To do what? Qualify for a sectional qualifier? You can do it anywhere in the US
Congrats man!
Maintenance crew baby
Good luck man play well 🏌️♂️⛳️👍
Awesome video
Glad the local guy won
Twas a spot too hot for Yukon Jack, so he couldn't show.
Love this. My question is if you're sub 2 hcp how the heck do you shoot high 80s ever?
Chris Jellel cause tournament golf is a different game my friend
You play really bad that day. I know a 3 hcp that shot over 100 a few months ago.
Theoretically, could someone like Colin Montgomerie just rock up to play this as an attempt to qualify ?
Top pros do get to pick their sectional qualifiers, but they would not have to deal with local qualifying as was done here in Alaska
Clint Novak Thanks 👍 Such a beautiful part of the world.
...sorry man, but after missing that putt how can you even thinking of playing the US Open?
Great video, though. I'd love to sneak up there and try a backdoor into the Open :) and the views might be the best of any course in sight of the Rockies ;)
Not sure what you mean by "most democratic competition." You don't qualify based on popularity. Should be considered the most merit-based competition.
Meritocratic.
It is. Their local event only gets you to the sectional which is much tougher. I know . I played in a state and then a sectional qualifier back in the day. Missed the Open by one shot.
@@stevep927 Not sure if you understand what democratic means. Your own statement shows meritocracy not democracy. =.=
@@xYondaimexJD Not sure you understand how US Open qualifying works because you never did it. Bye
@@stevep927 Typical nonsense from an ignoramus. Either explain to me how qualifiers is a democratic process and not a merit-based, I'm all ears, or shut up. Tell me who votes you into the next stage. You said it yourself, you missed the Open by one stroke, so how the hell is that a democratic process?
Scenery looks nice.course looks like a goat ranch
Nice observation city slicker
The course hasn’t had time to recover from the winter. The snow melted off not too long ago. Oddly, the course literally runs parallel to the city runway on the airport property. It’s not meant to be amazing.
How’d those two shoot 71? Was it a par 60?
72
Usa golf ass? Where?
won't break 80 at open
At least he’ll have the chance... while you type away
this doesn't send him straight to the US Open you dumb fucks
Ok troll
unless he has Lee Trevino accuracy, then he might finish in the top 25.
He didn't make it in to the open
The putt at 2:24 is disgusting, didn't deserve the spot anyway
Agreed, but remember that being on the green is a whole lot different than watching it from a camera angle. I've seen pros miss those putts that close. The green has ways of deceiving you, costing you dearly.
@@28goldenboy Regardless of whether you've seen other pros miss short putts (tua-cam.com/video/N3_kLTQuopg/v-deo.html,, another one shows a guy missing a tap-in and later losing by a stroke), that was just a bad putt. In fact the abundance of people badly-missing short putts throughout the history of golf should be enough of a warning not to do it in an Open local qualifier playoff. He pulled it left, never had a chance. On the other hand if he had made the 6-footers on either the first or 2nd playoff hole he would have won outright.
Let's put it this way, if he had *not* blown a short putt over those 18 holes he would have won in regular competition. But the guy who shot 74 would happily say the same thing about the 3 strokes that he left on the course. And the guys who shot 80 who "just couldn't get anything to fall"...yadda yadda yadda. You can't make a putt like that reliably, you have zero chance of playing in the Open.
Some ugly golf swings.
