Finally sharing this side project (that has been slowly taking over my life) of designing and renovating our new home and new sewing studio eek! Soon I will be able to go to the studio, shut the door (a DOOR, a door!), and film and record without worrying about cleaning everything up if someone is coming over, without having to sit waiting for Dan to pause between his work phone calls, without having to hold my breath while Marla babbles to us about her life experiences. I'm so excited to move in and make new things with you all!
I'm so happy for you! Can't wait to see what you do. (Also, please at least briefly mention what it's like moving with a baby, I'm pregnant and it looks like we might not be moving to a place with space for them, until after they're here).
I'm begging you guys, please adopt me!!! I promise I would be a great child, help with cleaning, taking care of baby sweet Marla and more. It's just... wow. You're such a big role model to me. I've been watching your channel (subscribed already, of course!) for a while and I really admire you, your work and basically a lot more things that you guys do, most specially you Wendy because, you know, I don't think you or Dan have talk about him or his work before (at least not that I can recall) that everytime I watch your videos I think “I would be so lucky if Wendy were my friend, even my mom!” 😂😂 I'm sorry if it sounds weird, I don't have a mom and when I see you, I feel like you bring me a beautiful feeling of motherhood that I yearn for and appreciate... Ah! However, I'm excited to see more of this project of yours, as always... Hope you're doing great, and take care, lysm! 🖤 *kisses for Marla*
Have you thought of having a carpenter see if they can switch your hinges around so your door swings the other way. We have a 114 year old house and we have had to do that with two interior doors
Congrats on the new home! Also, i usually don’t pay attention to HelloFresh sponsored bits in videos - creators often follow the same script and wording - but yours was really a breath of fresh air and was genuine! I’m keen on trying it out now!
I'm so excited for you!!! I was honestly surprised that you could live in such small, open space without losing it, so I'm very happy to see you move to a bigger place, with lots more space to fit all your needs. I'm sure the house will turn out fantastic after you're done renovating it :D
omg please make more of these chill videos!! Just random vlogs and updates about you, Dan and Marla! I'm so excited for you guys! Can't wait to see you design and decorate your new home.💗
Congrats! It is my dream to buy a home in Toronto, so I had heart eyes watching this vid. Please do more home reno vids! If possible (and if you feel comfortable sharing) could you do a video on how much it was to buy your home (eg unexpected costs, land transfer fees, lawyer fees, the whole shebang) and your budget for the renos? What was the process like? I'm just a really curious cat, and your videos give me so much inspo.
I own a 120 yr old Victorian house in LA, antique stores are fun to visit! Just a tip, for your door, you can always change the hinges to the right side of your existing door. Congratulations on your new home!
My dad's house was about 140 years old and it was a marvel of ancient engineering that it stayed relatively cool through the hot prairie summer without any air conditioning. Old houses usually regulate temperature better than anything built now. They are usually made with a brick exterior, which is very insulating. Extra bonus if it has two layers of brick, with an empty cavity between them. If it really is that old, and the brick layers haven't been demolished or compromised, that was one of the best ways they had to insulate back then. If the windows haven't been updated, you'll definitely want to do that though.
im soooo happy you're shopping for second hand doors. so many vintage/ old homes lose their character after aesthetic renovations that are made to appeal to modern preferences. obviously renovations are necessary to make a house livable but so many homes nowadays look the same !
Congratulations! Old houses are wonderful to live in (1913 here). Yours has an unusual layout and looks like the interior has been modified/updated. One of the things I love about old houses is that they translate so well to modern miniaturized and streamlined electronics and appliances. Oh, and high ceilings... I love high ceilings. Enjoy your new old home. 😁
I'm so excited to see this house and all that you do with it! The fact that you included just the best floor plan excited me beyond belief, I love seeing the layout and how things change. Not enough home renovation series do that! Thank you!
What a lovely home! My own parents bought our late Victorian home when I was a baby. I'm sure you'll make it a wonderful place to raise your little one. This comment is quite late so I'm sure you've discovered the glories of fans by now, but... yes, you need them! Things can get stuffy in the summer. Window fans are your friend. Running them at night then shutting the windows and closing the blinds in the morning can really help keep the house cool. As for the tilted floors... You'll figure out which way they tilt. That's where all of Marla's toys, crayons, pencils, anything that rolls will end up there. If you have any furniture that has space under it, things will end up under it because of the tilt. If you want to arrange your furniture based on this, placing a marble or ball on the floor will tell you all you need to know about the direction and severity of the incline.
Beautiful woodwork in the kitchen and upstairs. Quick tip for your squeaky floors, sprinkle baby powder on them and brush it into the floor well with a broom. It will help "lubricate" the spaces between the boards so they don't squeak. Cheap and easy fix and lasts about a year or so.
I am so glad for Wendy and fam. Been watching her content for years and every time there's a big announcement I just want to throw some pom-poms her way.
This house looks lovely and cozy right now and I can't wait to see the final results. Also you can totally switch around how doors open. Might be an option for you if you really fall in love with a specific door.
Yay! So exciting! Congrats, Wendy! Just be careful, a lot of old houses have lead paint, so make sure you get that checked out and removed if you have any
I’m very excited for the decor and renovation phase! Please take us shopping with you to the door store or anywhere else along the journey 💕 This is going to be so beautiful!
We’re neighbours! My partner and I also have a Victorian semi we’re renovating… and a basement full of original doors that we’re not using. They need to be refinished, but if you’re looking for an 1880s - 1890’s door for cheap in the W Queen W area, lmk! Would love for them to go to a good home.
How much are those types of houses in the area? We’re you concerned about the age and possibly having structural issues? With the market I heard lots of people can outbid and waive the inspection (fellow Torontonian dreaming of being a home owner)
Your place reminds me of my uncle's Victorian place, Bloor and college area. Very classic Toronto. Same door crown moulding, bay windows, also spent awhile as two units. They renovated the attic for a third floor, cool space.
Congrats on the new house. Fans: in hot summer they will help cool you down. In Winter, you should be able to have them work the other way to move heat down from top of ceiling so you stay warmer and save on heating costs. You will be more comfy!
Truly can't wait to see how it turns out in the end, I've loved your sense of style for a long time and am so looking forward to seeing what you do with a whole house!
Congrats! I am finishing undergrad and have been following you since maybe 8th grade so it’s really cool to see your personal life journey along with your sewing journey. You actually inspired my to live an a studio for undergrad, so I totally get the excitement about doors again lol. Anywho, best of luck with the home improvement and thanks for all the adulting inspiration 🖤( hopefully one day I get a cool house too, but for now, apartments 😅)
congrats on purchasing your new old home! it can at times get frustrating, but is oh so rewarding when ideas and plans materialise and are completed, even the littlest of things. best wishes to you and your family on the journey ahead 💛
I enjoyed you talking about your meal plan. It looks so perfect for a busy family like yours. I usually fast forward through product placement advertising. I am retired and cooking is more like a hobby. Started watching for your making new clothes from your own clothes.
You may find with your old building that they actually stay very cool in the summer, because if the thick brick walls, but they get cold af in winter coz lack of proper insulation
Congratulations to you and Dan on the new home! It's going to be so sweet seeing Marla grow up here! Can't wait to see how you have been transforming the space and love all of the Victorian architecture details you shared. Also super excited to see you in your own designated sewing space :D
I know you needed time off to have a baby and that's very important but oh my god I missed your content so much. Whenever you upload I keep the video for winding down with my pets at the end of the night and the chill vibes help me unwind so much 💖
Congrats on the new home! I love watching people build and renovate houses in The Sims, and your house tour reminded me a lot of them! It'll be interesting to see how it looks when you move in! :) Your Hello Fresh section was also really nice. I tend to enjoy (or at least don't mind witching) ads from my favourite UA-camrs anyway, but I could genuinely see how much you enjoy this company and what a positive impact they've had on your cooking and mealtimes. I've felt super uninspired with regard to meals over the last few weeks, so I'm thinking meal kits might be a good solution... 😮😊
after a couple of minutes I realized this is pure escapism for me. While I am not entirely sure if this is a 100% good thing, I appreciate the videos and will have a small breathing-break right now.
I’m American, specifically from the east coast. Ceiling fans are super common in every room, even outdoor patios. I didn’t realize they could be suspicious/alarming/abnormal? Lol
I love watching people buy and renovate homes for themselves to live in! Especially when it's the last chance for the house to have inhabitants because it's so run down xD thanks fir sharing thus experience with us

Okay I KNEW you were moving because I saw your apartment up for rent on a popular facebook page and was like wait I have seen that place 👀👀👀 so so so excited for you!!!!!!
For most things they wouldn’t have had the bathrooms such as they are they would’ve just been small closets with basins sub to have water the bathroom is where most likely outside and the step down as sometimes they would use a bedroom or a few bedrooms as lodging rooms for people to get our extra rent. Might we possibly see another sorry girls project :)
Strip the paint on the stairwell and refinish. I bet it would look beautiful. Can't wait to see how it is in the end and the journey to the end.
I'm so happy for you! Can't wait to see what you do.

Really feel that anguish of living in a small shared space. So so happy for your wonderful family! Sending so much love to all of you!
so glad we got to hear marla's commentary on everything
Have you thought of having a carpenter see if they can switch your hinges around so your door swings the other way. We have a 114 year old house and we have had to do that with two interior doors
Yess... I was thinking the same. We did the same with one of the doors in our home.i think that would be cheaper as well.
This was my first thought! Haven't seen it done myself though, cool to know it's an option that's out there :)
This!
We do this all the time in India
Had this done as well. It took about 15min.
Congrats on the new home!

Marla’s little flappy legs kept distracting me! So cute!!! Congrats on the new house, can’t wait for the next progress update! 💕
Hell yes house content! Please give me all the house content so I can live vicariously through you! Congrats a million times over this is so huge!

Yes to this
The house sold for 1.4 mil 😎

Ah, Toronto real estate. Been there! My last house was from 1911. We did a huge reno, too. Now we are living and buying near Barcelona. ❤️

Literally gasped at that door at 14:26 🤩Please bless us all with all the reno content you can manage! 😁
Congratulations on your house purchase, it will be so nice to have more room, especially with Marla growing quickly!

So excited for your precious little family…can’t wait to see the beautiful transformation 🥰

It so good 😊. How are you doing ?
This video was so comforting! So happy for you in the new home, hope it all goes well!
Loooll Wendy and Kelsey and their green kitchen.
I think it would be best to change the flooring before moving it. It would save a lot of time and money to do it now.just my thought
Oh my gosh we do the same thing with the bag for trash, how interesting!!
after a couple of minutes I realized this is pure escapism for me. While I am not entirely sure if this is a 100% good thing, I appreciate the videos and will have a small breathing-break right now.

I love that this is the opposite renovation that Kelsey from the Sorry Girls just did to her house.
Congratulations on the house! The renovations make a lot of sense, I am excited to see what it will look like when it is finished!
OMG I'M SO HAPPY FOR YOU ALL

Congratulations Wendy, Dan, Marla and Sagwa! Happy Happy New Home!!!!

congratulations on the new home! with your taste and the homes natural flair I cannot wait to see how lovely it turns out!
I asked you in your previous video what your headphones were, I paused your video and I THINK I figured out they were the Sony wh00xm4-smthing-brand. I bought them, but Id still like to hear your thoughts on them, if you hate them its not too late for me to get them reimbursed hahahaha
Ma'am, I just have 1 question, why are your views dwindling?!? I've missed you so much! I'm glad I've "re-found"(?) your channel. Congrats on your baby!

Okay I KNEW you were moving because I saw your apartment up for rent on a popular facebook page and was like wait I have seen that place 👀👀👀 so so so excited for you!!!!!!
Yes it true but that are amazing 😉. How are you doing ?
Congratulations new home owners.
Wow congratulations!! That’s awesome! Can’t wait to see the fixer upper journey!
Their family is so gorgeous omg
For most things they wouldn’t have had the bathrooms such as they are they would’ve just been small closets with basins sub to have water the bathroom is where most likely outside and the step down as sometimes they would use a bedroom or a few bedrooms as lodging rooms for people to get our extra rent. And some of the renovations look like they’ve been done in the 50s as well as the 70s and the 90s with a little bit of 80s thrown in and the Applegreen in the kitchen downstairs is very IKEA
Edit: With older Victorian homes the insulation is almost none, that’s why the fans for the summertime because it’s going to get sticky hot in there when you do strip things out you might wanna think of insulating different bedrooms and major areas on interior walls as well as exterior walls that is if you’re not gonna go down to studs. Yes you should be able to use the skylight at the top floor to gain access to the roof because it would most likely be a flat roof and would’ve been a tar roof.
YaY! A new home is very exciting, can't wait to see all the lovely things you'll make to enhance your decor. Congrats!😊
