@@CanadianZar me too my friend, I've gotten so frustrated by the poor state of physical releases. That I might as well just buy the PC copy. One of my friends got tired of it He's went straight PC and now he's like a hermit and a cave. There really is a lot of freedom with PC. But it's such a shame that consoles don't have that freedom. Or competitive prices digitally. Sony and Microsoft keep chasing that PC-like experience. But they forget that they can never truly be PCs because they're not going to offer that same freedom and options. So why should I pay $700 for a PS5 Pro that doesn't even come with a disk drive something I have to pay extra for. When I could get me a solid budget PC for that price and have so much more options available to me? It just makes zero sense to get Modern PlayStation or Xbox consoles. Nintendo switch and it's successor seem to be the last real physical game consoles. But I guess we'll see how true that is when the Nintendo switch 2 comes out. Thanks for watching.
THey figured out gamers will yell n scream on twitter and other platforms on pre-ordered games which means nothing to their bottom line so why not make physical games download tickets.
@Phil1Up_Collects don't get ps5 pro.i didn't get ps4 pro.i have ps5.i figured it out.they make cheap controllers.my controller thumb stick went broke.
I completely agree with not paying above MSRP from resellers. The most fun part of buying and collecting to me is finding games at good prices. Doesn't feel good paying too much for stuff. Great video!
@@90shandheldgamer Thanks for watching. Yeah we all want to get games for a fair price. But we have let eBay scalpers resellers and even corporations tell us how much things should cost. FOMO and social media has ruined it. But that's why I'm doing my part to speak up about it. I don't care if it makes the corporations, resellers, and scalpers mad. I'm here for the gamers. People who love this hobby and want to continue to enjoy it. Nobody should ever have to pay past MSRP for a modern release that can be reprinted at any time. Be it a year from now or 4 years. If Sony Nintendo and Microsoft can still manufacture physical releases. Then there's nothing stopping any game that ever had a physical release from getting reprinted.
Speaking of artificial rarity, Limited Run Games, which I should mention literally owns the copyrights and publishing rights of several games, has been vocally against the reprinting of games. It genuinely sucks.
@@FunkyStudios It's definitely unfortunate that companies are using FOMO tactics in order to make their physical releases more valuable and rare. I'm for reprinting games as much as possible so everybody can have a copy as long as the demand is there. Yes. It’s redundant. Current games cannot be rare. #1 is still in production. #2 there is a digital market. #3 some of these games are available via subscription service. #4 the age of remastering/remakes. #5 DLC can make a game incomplete. And lol 😅 imagine Delisting. I agree artificial rarity 💯
This is a 1000% true. I've been collecting 15+ years, and I'll admit youtubers continuously discussing hidden gems and artificial rarity is one of the many big issues in the community. great video.
@@seektruthnow. I would very much like that controller as well as the 30th anniversary. There is nothing stopping Sony from reprinting those. They choose to purposely make it limited. I don't understand prices either honestly. It seems like over priced BS. I never understood why Nintendo games cost wayyyyy more than xbox and PS games too. Nintendo holds more value? lol
Well Nintendo is currently the only console that has true exclusives and the only place you can play those games. Whereas PlayStation and Microsoft have given up pretty much exclusives. You can get them on PC people that would have once bought a PlayStation or Xbox system are no longer buying it because those games are on PC. So the market for those who buy those consoles has shrunken. A lot of people will just wait for the inevitable PC version. But besides that cartridges are more expensive to manufacture than Blu-ray disc. Luray disc has been around for quite a while now. But these Nintendo switch cartridges are customized and unique a cartridge format that isn't used for any other device on the market. So because of that It makes it more expensive. If the switch cartridges were used for music and movies it would be a different thing.
That's true. Sure hope it don't happen to any of mine because I got almost 400 games sitting on the shelf. But all these things will wear out eventually. That's why we should spend time enjoying these things while we have them instead of worrying about value. Because if you're never going to sell it and you're just going to hold on to it what's What's it matter if it's worth a dollar or $1,000?
@@Gakki_Aniki haha Thank you for the kind words. I'm sorry to hear that. Buying full price games is definitely expensive. I always try to wait on a deal. A good way to make a little money is to use some of those receipt scanning apps. It's not much but if you bank it you can earn yourself multiple gift cards from Amazon Best Buy etc. I do it all the time and usually cash it out around the holiday season and that gives me some extra bucks. Besides most modern games aren't worth kidding day one physically. They have so many bugs and issues that it's best to wait for a sale.
So I can thank VGP for tanking the value of Blue Reflection. I bought it sealed for 30 dollars on Amazon. Never got around to playing it and saw that it went up to 100 plus. Decided to get the digital version and keep mine sealed. Now it's worth way less. Thanks guys.
The thing is, we shouldn’t be worried about having a bunch of money in this. It’s about preserving the games that we enjoy playing. If a game gets a reprint then it’s good because more people can play. We need these games to be accessible.
Yeah I never order vgp reprints, the thing is VGP are cashing in on fomo aswell. People are just blind to it cause they get to fill that gap on their shelf.
Sorry you're disappointed at other people get to have a game for a fair price. You didn't buy the game originally with value in mind so why should you care? It's now at the value that you paid for. It sounds like greed has gotten a hold of you and is talking for you my friend. Games are meant to be enjoyed Not hoarded in a vault like the one ring.
@@SilverSurfer17 Yeah, but was there really a demand for Blue Reflection physical? If so many people wanted it, then it wouldn't have been priced down to 30 on Amazon. @@KarthikeyanThangavel-pl1ek yep it's good to buy when you can. But some games like Final Fantasy 7 remake integrade in this picture. Get stupid expensive when something like that shouldn't have a shortage. Just like Final Fantasy pixel remaster. Square Enix is a AAA publisher in developer. So why are they limiting their physical releases? Why are the purposely making them expensive and artificially rare? Before the reprint of Pixel remaster nobody could get the game unless they shelled out hard for it. Now that we have these reprints I got my physical PS4 copy for $38 on Woot. But FF7 integrade is still not had a reprint. And there's no excuse for it. That's what we have to combat. Developers and publishers they're out of touch with their fans, greedy fomo tactics, and horrible scalpers.
@ they create FOMO. UA-camrs talk about how rare it’s so person not have an idea to buy gets and interest and curiosity; all will be sold when it’s reprinted.
A simple solution is to just pre order your games before they come out at your mom & pop stores, gamestop, or online store. That way you get your game and dont have to worry about the secondary market value. As far as videogame values on the secondary market and reprints it is what it is. Comic books secondary market is similar. Sentiment and value goes hand in hand with supply and demand. You also got the speculation collectors who collect, buy, and sell based a games value and potential value due to rarity or pop culture significance.
@@Damackism I get what you're saying but you have to keep in mind that 60 to $70 for a game when there's so many games coming out all the time is hard for a lot of people to do. Especially if they live on a fixed income. Some people have to wait for some kind of sale. And then other times there's so many games coming out hundreds a week with physical releases collectors editions some people miss and announcement of a physical release and only find out about the game way after it's been out. Then when they go to look for a physical copy it's out of print and going for stupid prices. But like I said in the video any modern game that can be reprinted should not be going for expensive prices. Because as long as the factories are still throwing out switch, PS4, PS5, and Xbox discs. They only ones keeping us from having a physical is the developers publishers and license holders that don't want to reprint it.
@Phil1Up_Collects I feel you. All I can say it is what it is. Companies are trying to save money as well. Print runs of games these days are determined by popularity of game and demand i.e. pre orders. I work at Gamestop. We wont get many copies of games genres that are known to have medium to small print runs. Unless it gets pre ordered. Retail stores don't make a lit of profit selling new games. So thats why a there are only a limited amount of physical copies of the game. %60 of gamers buy games digitally. So most modrtn games are not going tp have a high physcal print run.
@@ninjacape exactly the point of the video. It's artificial rarity. Because real rarity is something that takes place over a long period of time. Something that can no longer be made. It takes time for value to go up on things. But the modern market has totally screwed that up. And you can thank a lot of that due to social media influence. It's destroying the market and making things insane! That's why I'm speaking up about it. Because I hope that if enough people speak up. Then something can get done and maybe change things for the better. Thanks for watching.
The fact is when gaming became mainstream, it introduced a new opportunity for resellers. I am a collector/reseller, since 1995, I have seen all the ups and downs, high prices are not going anywhere, gaming has become too big. Reprinting games will help mitigate pricing in the short term but as long as gaming keeps growing, it will not have a long lasting effect. Also as a collector I want to have rare games, I don't want a collection the same as everyone else. In terms of of artificial rarity, you could say that about most things. The fact is if games are not being reprinted, then they are rare, regardless if the means to reprint those games is there or not.
One exception would be indie developers. Once the Kickstarter or initial funding is gone so is the ability to manufacture. AAA titles today I would never spend that kind of money

@@michaelb2westgaedu That's because Game pass destroyed physical media on Xbox. Not to mention all that hidden DRM nonsense they decided to put in it with those smart delivery games being partial Xbox One partial series X and not dedicated disc builds for each platform. It means you still needed an internet connection in a big download just to play your physical disc. But that's what Microsoft wanted. Remember the Xbox One launch they tried to do a bunch of crazy nonsense that everybody hated them for? They didn't change their plan They just presented it a different way. And that new way is with Game pass. They made everybody rather pay for a "affordable subscription service" And by doing so found a way they could stop putting out physical disk media. And now anybody that wanted physical games for their Xbox platforms isn't going to be able to have them. And it's a real shame. Even though we got a enhanced version of that on Switch. It did not put a dent in the GameCube prices. Why I have no idea. @@zevzero Thanks brother I really appreciate it. I wish the state of gaming was a lot better than it is. That's why we got to do our part to make things better. Because at the end of the day this is our hobby our passion our love. If we don't take care then those who just want to profit off us will walk all over us. Like how Larian studios set the bar for quality AAA releases with BG3. We can do the same When it comes to fair market prices for both modern and retro games.
It's because video game companies want to squeeze as much profit out of games now days. If Square Enix makes five million copies of Final Fantasy 7 Remake and only two million physical copies sell, merchants will eventually either return overstock and get a refund on the unsold product instead of sitting on them or Square Enix will have to drop the price of these games at MSRP and issue a reimbursement cost for unsold copies. This means that the profit margin will be lower as gamers are able to then buy the game at a lower cost. This also will effect digital costs as if you've got millions of copies for $20 available physically, who in their right mind would buy a $70 copy of the game digitally? Because of this, publishers are trying to produce as many physical copies as they think will sell and depending on how quickly they sell they'll print more, but at some point once the sales slow, they'll stop printing them so they can gain as much money as possible. During previous generations when physical gaming was still big they just printed a lot more and we were able to get video games cheap, but physical gaming is more expensive than it's ever been for those patient enough to just wait. Everyone feels like they're following Nintendo and almost never dropping their prices and would rather have their games go out of print and not allowing anyone to purchase them at all rather than losing a single cent. I feel like the main cause of this is all these limited companies. Publishers are looking at LRGs limited print games and seeing that people wait for their preorders after paying 32 years earlier and publishers are just keeping their prices high with a low supply, limiting the amount they release just like these limited print companies.
I understand what point you're trying to make. But I'll have to counter that point by Why is this one particular Final Fantasy game The only one that is the exception to the rule? How many copies of Final Fantasy 15 16 and pass Final Fantasy games have they reprinted? It just makes no sense. It's like they'll do it for some games but not for the remake of one of the most popular Final Fantasy games of all time? You're going to tell me that 15 a mediocre in lame excuse as a Final Fantasy game and 16 a brand new entry that does not have the cultural phenomenon or impact that seven does one of the most marketed Final Fantasy games of all time where they constantly throw the characters on everything Final Fantasy related whenever it pops up. Is not worthy of getting a reprint? I'm sorry but I cannot get behind that logic It makes zero sense. If they reprinted it right now everybody would rush out and buy it it would sell millions. Instead you have people paying $100 for used copies and then having to go buy the DLC or $150 to $200 for a scalped copy of a game that was a PS5 version of a PS4 game that came out a couple of years ago. That's just insane to me. My theory is squaring it says no clue what they're doing because they listen to investors instead of listening to their fanbase. Because I can promise you that if they did reprint it like they did pixel remaster everybody would rush out to buy it.
@@doctorgames101b yep that's the natural order of things. But unfortunately greed has corrupted things and people are only becoming more and more greedy. I may not like the prices of retro games. It makes no sense that we're seeing those same prices for modern releases that can be reprinted right now at any moment. In fact VGP just announced today that Scorn I mentioned in this video is now on a discount for Cyber Monday. You can get the game even cheaper than it was when I made this video. It’s strange some publishers would be against places like VGP printing more copies, since the publisher clearly wasn’t interested in producing any more and therefore making any more money on that title. It’s not like they make any money from resellers marking prices up, that’s all going to the seller. As for why not that many physical copies are made these days, it’s because of the digital to physical sales number split. Most people are fine with digital now sadly. So the publisher doesn’t make very many as they don’t want to over produce and lose money on that. Last I saw the digital to physical ratio was around: 80/20 on Xbox 70/30 on PlayStation 60/40 on Switch So the customers have spoken with their dollars and they have chosen digital unfortunately. If there is a game you really want to get physical, get it at MSRP while you can. Especially for publishers known for not printing very many copies like KoeiTecmo with games made by Gust. Or NISA and games made by Falcom.
@@ドリフト180X yep the only way we can fix the demand for physical is also to lower the purchases of digital. Digital is convenience but look at what you're really giving up when you purchase it? PC used to have physical games. It was a bit cumbersome with all the floppy disks and multiple discs and installs. But everybody just started to purchase the digital games to the point that nobody thought it was important to provide district drives and PCs anymore and wanted to make the games physical. Now we are seeing both Sony and Microsoft pull out of the physical games. We'll have to wait and see what Nintendo does with their next system. I definitely don't want physical media to go away. But it's going to take all of us to change things. If we don't vote with our wallet then we can't cry about it later when physical media completely goes away. Thanks so much for watching.
First of all I'll start by saying retro games are only as valuable as one is willing to pay for it. I lived it had multiple systems starting from the atari vcs and colecovision era through the NES, TG-16 SNES Sega Genesis, Saturn PS1 N64 Dreamcast PS2 Gamecube. I even had the addons for the TG-16 and sega genesis with respect to the cd-roms and 32x for the sega. I lost it all in a fire and will not replace them because what people want for those things the nostalgia isn't worth getting ripped off. Collectors should feel good they still have their collections but I will not pay for the nostalgia that lasts only moments when I have the memories which no one can put a price on or take away from me.
I agree with 95% of your video. There does seem like supply and "projected" demand is such a strictly monitored thing with the majority publisher now. Sadly with physical media being pushed less and less is because of lower physical sales aren't as strong now digital is winning over more and more consumers. A lot of them don't realise our side of it or understand how important physical is to the market. It's a hobby at the end of the day. Reprints can be done, however it's less and less feasible when they see less and less returns on a physical purchase verses the digital. For the most part, at least the majority of modern games aren't good anyway! So I've been mostly just picking up things a week or so after release even if i don't start them for a bit. I'm even less incentivised with newer consoles as effectively they're a disguised digital copy anyway, especially PS and Xbox.
@@bigcheese6417 Yeah and that's how social media and the entertainment industry has ruined future generations.. kids now are growing up with cell phones and tablets They know they can just watch a movie or a show through a streaming service They can click a button and download a game They didn't grow up in the time where they had to go to a movie theater and pay for a ticket to watch a movie or go to the store and physically buy a game to have it They have become so desensitized and spoiled by modern conveniences that they have no real attachment to anything. My 5-year-old niece gets spoiled on birthday and Christmas every year with tons of toys and goodies she cares about none of them All she wants to do is sit on her tablet and consume UA-cam video after UA-cam. Theres good points, but them again theres a lot of flaw's to the arguments as well. Yes youtuber that talk about niche/low print games contribute to the price hikes. But then again if it wasnt for those people, a lot of franchises wouldn't never get much support in sales. After all a IP becoming popular and loved by people is the point. Devs need money and fans to make games. I will say that Companies like LRG are price gouging people, because publishers wont do reprints. Its a huge mess, because resellers and collectors are buying all this stuff up "before it gets expensive", so between panic buying, low prints, Fomo, limited release, Multiple editions, it just feeds it self.
@@NuclearAbyss That is a fair point. I'm not saying all UA-camrs are out there that benefit themselves. There are some good ones that put a spotlight on these games and give them recognition. I've interviewed a few developers on my channel through a podcast like Kristala from Astral Clocktower studios. Fantastic ladies making their dreams souls like game. And we're producing the physical for it at Premium so that's pretty awesome. But yeah it's unfortunate that some companies are putting artificial limits on certain games. Especially if there's a lot of demand and they could do more reprints of it. When it comes to LRG then releasing physicals for things that should have retail releases like Persona 3 and Persona 4 is weird to me. VGP sells out of copies of that whenever they get it in. But had that been a retail release that Sega/Atlus put out there wouldn't be a supply issue. In fact if I was Sega/Atlus I would reprint my own batches of that right now. I know Koei Tecmo and NIS did a widespread retail restock on various titles when they saw how well the VGP reprints sold. Some of us want to buy a game and have it go up later, but on behalf of the game companies it creates urgency for us to buy them. That's why. We wouldn't buy titles we thought would go up later and become scarce and fomo buy if we thought they would just keep reprinting them forever.
But what's the point in buying something for value when it won't last forever? And if you're buying it for value and then you're never going to sell it and what does it matter if it's worth a dollar or worth $100? We should enjoy these things while we have it Play them experience them make cherished memories and enjoy the games as the creators of those games intended. They did not put the hard work they did into these games years of their lives for us to just sit them on the shelf and never play them. And any games that don't really hit with me I'll let them go sell it to someone who will. It's quality over quantity. Hoarding things for value doesn't do anybody good.
The argument about "artificial rarity" overlooks several critical factors in the video game industry. To expect developers and publishers to manufacture copies of games perpetually to prevent high resale prices is not just impractical; it misunderstands the logistics and economics of production. Estimating Demand is Not Simple: Predicting how many copies of a game will sell is not an exact science. Publishers must balance the costs of production, storage, and distribution with the game's anticipated demand. Overprinting can lead to unsold stock that takes up warehouse space and incurs ongoing costs. These unused copies can become financial burdens, especially if the game underperforms. Where Would Unwanted Copies Go? The suggestion to overprint games assumes there’s infinite storage for unsold products. When a game’s lifecycle ends, the remaining stock must go somewhere. Without demand, those copies would sit in warehouses or be destroyed, both of which cost money and resources. The Economics of Reprinting: Printing another run of a game isn’t as simple as hitting a button. Publishers need to evaluate if demand justifies the costs of production, licensing, and logistics. If the market for a game is limited to niche collectors or secondhand buyers, the financial viability of reprinting may not make sense. Resale Prices Reflect Scarcity, Not Publisher Malice: The high prices in secondhand markets reflect supply and demand dynamics. If a game becomes rare and sought after, its price rises-not because publishers deliberately withheld copies, but because production naturally ends at some point. It’s not realistic to expect perpetual availability of every game ever made. In summary, demanding that games be overproduced indefinitely to prevent secondhand price inflation is shortsighted. It's an unreasonable expectation for companies to cater to niche secondhand buyers at the expense of financial and logistical viability. This take is dismissive of the complexities involved in manufacturing, estimating demand, and determining the cost-effectiveness of reprints.
@@startedpvmer4117 That's a lot of fancy words and I'm pretty sure you had some solid points there. I wasn't implying that they need to reprint games indefinitely to where it becomes a financial burden. My point was they have the ability to reprint these games and there's nothing stopping them from doing so. But they should only do it if there is demand. It makes no sense to reprint things when there is next to no demand. That would be silly and to suggest that's what I implied is even sillier. But if you want to worry about the financial burden and cost of reprinting games. How about we talk about all the times these big AAA companies in the game industry waste tons of money not to mention taxpayer dollars on stupid things nobody asked for like Concord. A 200 to 400 million dollar flop. On top of the overspending of marketing and live action cutscenes for games that are unnecessary. The foolish waste of spending for game awards and big events that don't matter when they could just do something cheaper like a live stream. So I don't really want to hear that reprinting games is a financial burden and is going to put a company in the hole. When these companies waste money flavorlessly all of the time. By doing things that gamers that should be their target audience don't want in favor of other audiences or investors who don't even play games or care about games or are completely out of touch with games.
@@Phil1Up_Collects Your argument oversimplifies the complexity of game reprints and company spending. While reprinting games may seem straightforward, the reality involves substantial financial and logistical considerations, including licensing, production, distribution, and marketing costs, even if the demand is moderate. It's not merely a matter of pressing "reprint" when gamers request it-each decision must factor in long-term profitability and the broader strategy of the company. Moreover, your critique of "wasteful spending" overlooks the importance of large-scale marketing and events in maintaining a company's competitive edge in an oversaturated market. For instance, extravagant campaigns and high-profile projects like "Concord" may fail sometimes, but they also represent efforts to innovate and capture market attention, which is vital for sustained success. These ventures are less about immediate ROI and more about building a brand and staying relevant. While catering to gamers is important, AAA companies must also consider their obligations to investors and the need to attract new audiences. These groups contribute significantly to a company's growth, and decisions are often made with long-term strategic goals in mind, rather than purely gamer satisfaction. Therefore, suggesting that reprinting games should always take priority over other investments oversimplifies the multi-faceted nature of decision-making in the gaming industry.
Video Game Collecting is a spectrum. On one end is the pure gamer that only cares about playing video games, and the other end are people that never play video games and it’s a pure collection hobby. Neither side and anywhere in between is wrong. The pure gamer end needs to recognize that holding and growing value is important to a large % of the current market because the hobby has grown beyond playing the games themselves. Honestly if just playing the game is the goal just get a PC and emulate. While I agree companies can reprint modern games it’s not in their best interest. The rarer, sought after, talked about, and valuable your physical games are that’s free marketing for them. If you want something just buy it regardless of price if you can and want to afford it.

The majority of games "released" in physical form in the last couple generations have been incomplete as sold; some are unplayable without updates during an installation. Unless a "definitive", "Game of the Year" or "ultimate" edition that includes updates and DLC is released, I am hard-pressed to spend my dollar on games. I won't pay anywhere close to full price for a digital "license", either, as one does not own the actual game, and the said game can be yanked at any time.
@@Dylan_Nash I definitely feel this. And a lot of modern releases aren't worth picking up day one. I use Does it play and Nintendo revised as my guides when it comes to games I pick up physically now. If the game is broken or has tons of necessary updates and patches I'll just wait for really good deal on it via PC and play it that way because once they print that physical release outside of switch it doesn't get reprinted and then you're just left with a broken mess and something taken up space on your shelf that has no purpose. Like the Hogwarts Legacy game requires a net download to play the physical. That's crazy for a single player game something that could have been resolved if they would have just put it on two discs.
Why i mainly buy digital i mean why pay over 100 for ff7 ps5 disc when I can buy the ps4 disc for 20 bucks and get the ps5 digital version for free or get both version on ps plus lol unless the digital version is dlisted I will get digital first.
That's a good point I've seen a lot of PS4 versions going up in value because the print sizes are getting smaller and because of the free PS5 upgrade. You're getting essentially two copies of the game for a cheaper price. I'll only pick up a PS5 copy of the game I already have If that version has more content on disc or if I just really love the game.
That's why I felt it was weird to see all those big UA-camrs saying they're getting out of retro selling their retro games I'm like are you sure you want to do that? retro games don't have all the annoying problems we have to deal with today.
@@kaleodos I can see that argument. But if that is indeed true then scalpers and resellers are going to be out of a job real fast. 👀🤣 Jokes aside I think they'll always be someone nostalgic for physical media. Just look at vinyls Nobody cared about those for years and they have a resurgence. Even though digital music is easy to consume and doesn't take up space. They still print music on physical CDs. Some people just love a hard copy. And with how companies are so quick to tell everybody you don't own anything anymore and you have to constantly pay for subscription services and extra fees to get to enjoy any form of entertainment. I think people are starting to wake up and realize they don't like that direction things are going. So I guess we'll see how things play out in the next 10 or so years. Thanks so much for watching.
Thats the problem, they dont reprint the games. Out of all the consoles, the Switch physical media will always rise in price regardless if they are complete or not. Retro games can still be printed but they arent very often. Iam8bit puts out snes carts for anniversaries like megaman and street fighter, granted theyre expensive, but theyre actual carts. Limited print runs that become impossible to find have always been a thing with _niche_ titles. Look up Xenosaga episode 3, that PS2 game never got a second English print run and most of the copies ended up destroyed. Big mainstream games going out of print quickly is absolutely a scam though yeah.

Clearly Monolithsoft still wants to use the IP and bring it into canon with Xenoblade, and Bandai has been more than willing to license that, but also unwilling to remaster Xenosaga. I'd take a straight port of the collection of the PS2 games at this point given how disc rot will eventually become a problem with the surviving copies.

Now on PC with multiple options to get those digital games at various different prices. You get a pretty good deal A lot of times even better than the discounted physical copy. But we are there yet with consoles. And as long as they have locked digital storefronts where they make all of the money we will never have fair and competitive digital prices. Modern video games look pretty but are trash! like lipstick on a pig. No original story, horrible character development, woke ideologies, politics...the list goes on!!! I used to play video games to escape from all of life's problems, now all the problems are in video games for an "Modern Audience"
Except they arent reprinting ff7, hence why my used copy is worth $100. PS5 lifespan is half over. Just collect what you like. Currently i only have PS4 / PS5, PSVR / PSVR 2 collection, theyre expensive based on rarity, and supply & demand lol it doesnt matter if theyre still able to print, if they arent. Didn't watch yet, just saw title and said "no duh" but i've been saying this for decades now and normies just love the spells placed on them. They eat bad deals right up; they're like crack to them
Yes it seems like PS5 will be the last disc based system for Sony. With them choosing to do a disk drive attachment. Which just makes it harder for people who want physical games. I even saw shortages of the disk drive attachment. Similar to shortages on those analog sticks for the dual sense edge. All they did was complicate things and make it unnecessarily confusing for customers. That's because they're so out of touch with what we really want. We just want our game system to play games. All that other stuff that tech guru's care about. Making our video game consoles more like PCs. It's annoying! And what is the point in doing that anyways? You're putting all these games on PC giving up your exclusives which means there's no reason to buy your console. I don't understand Sony or Microsoft. And I'm not sure what Nintendo will do. But I feel like they will eventually cave and given to the pressure that Sony and Microsoft are causing in the gaming community to the point that they'll have no other choice but to go completely digital or put Nintendo games on PC. I really hope Nintendo never does that. Because that's something they have never done. But with all this pressure to become a all digital age. It might make it difficult for them. I truly hope they continue to fight against the grain. Because I love Nintendo for being opposite of what Microsoft and Sony are doing. They understand that games matter, And that software sells hardware. And without dedicated software and exclusive titles for that platform the hardware wouldn't sell. Nintendo switch would not be successful if it did not have those first party Nintendo exclusives. Thanks so much for watching.
When an ebay seller sells a game, sure they receive all the money and not the developer/publisher. But, a lot of these modern games if sold to a gamer and not to another reseller/flipper is going to get played and eventually, probably, the DLCs if any will be purchased/dnloaded. So, the developer/publishers can actually make money from Ebay resellers selling games this way.
I think the exception would be if a modern game was intentionally made to be a low print run. Atlus used to do this with a lot of their games, but they have been better. But I agree the state of game collecting gets out of hand with these prices. I also think game grading plays a part in it. I think video game grading is stupid to be honest, like what’s the point? I understand grading for things like Pokemon cards, and other trading cards. Great video buddy!
@@thebuckeyegamer7443 I also agree that video game grading is stupid. It's a complete ponzi scheme and it makes no sense. I picked up a Walmart pickup recently. And when I open the bag one of the PS5 games had that security plastic box around it They have to remove and give the game. So I had to go back into the Walmart to have it removed. But I guess if I was a greedy person I would have left it the way it is and then listed it on eBay and said "rare Walmart mistake PS5 game in original Walmart security box $5,000" Unfortunately I wish we could reprint old games. I would rather Sony Open the doors for that then weighs 200 to 400 million like they did on Concord but they have their thumbs up there butts So no chance in that happening. Thanks so much for watching.
Atlus game: They were a small to mid size studio as a developer and publisher. They are not that big to handle such and think conservatively. Now that Sega own them, they have a powerhouse backing them. As for grading, i find it to be ridiculous. Why? As an artist, image quality degrade because of UV lighting and atmospheric components. That's why Mao's painting (3 of them) in China need to repaint. Mona Lisa and Sistine chapel are repainted. The only way to keep the image from fading is in total darkness and in a close room with barely any atmospheric effect (dig 10 ft down).
1st off I hit that sub button and liked you video but….i disagree with your argument on so many levels. There is no such thing as forced or manufactured rarity. This is about $$$. The consumers are buying more and more digital copies of games. So there are fewer physical copies being made. Why do companies need to spend money that they really don’t need to spend. This is smart business. As far as Nintendo goes it cost much more to manufacture a cartage than a disk. The physical demand is just not there. You can just download it. Bro you just sound butt hurt. I love the video game market right now. It so fun to hunt and look for rare games. Not every game is going to be rare but the hunt is so fun. 10 years, 20 years ps5, Switch and Xbox SX prices are going to skyrocket. It’s no longer going to be a consumer market, it’s a collector market. Get these physical copies while you can because they are going away. That’s a fact. New games are expensive because there less of them being made. It’s not greed it’s good business. Every game you talked about you can download. Come on man, you look to be my age. We grew up with physical but my sons only want to download games. We are a dying breed. Be safe out there bro!
I appreciate you watching The video and subscribing. It's cool if you disagree. But I'll counter that it cost a lot of money It's all about money etc etc with these companies waste a stupid amount of money doing a stupid amount of stupid things. Concord cost anywhere from $200 to 400 million dollars. And it got delisted. How many times have these companies wasted money on things that gamers do not want over doing things that we do want that would make them even more money? It's definitely not going to hurt them to reprint some of these games as much as wasting all that money on Concord did. And that's just one example my friend. I am definitely not butt hurt. I think it's absolute insane that some of these modern games go for the prices they do. When they can simply be reprinted. Square Enix finally reprinted pixel remaster and I got a copy coming to me for 38 bucks on the PS4. over the $400 $800 copies of the vanilla version. And just like they reprinted that there is nothing stopping them from reprinting a Final Fantasy 7 integrade that is pictured in the thumbnail of this video. I just can't get behind that argument that it cost them too much money when they are always wasting money like it idiots.
@ wow. Thank you for commenting back! I see your points but…. I think you are saying there is a problem and I am saying that there is no problem. I am very passionate about collecting and it seems like you are too. The market is what it is. And come on, Concord is a bad example. Concord was never going to be collectable. Even if it was successful. The only reason concord is collectable now is because how fast if bricked. There are definitely layers to what we are talking about. And there are defiantly stupid companies out there. Bioware, Ubisoft, EA, sometimes Squarenix. But saying “hey game companies print more games!” Is not really the answer. They are not responsible for the resale price for video games. It’s not there problem to solve. I love the fact my Copy of Godzilla for the PS4 is $200. When I bought it it was worth $300. I payed close to retail price for it. I got a good deal because I caught a guy who was willing to take $70 dollars for it. The digital age is coming my friend. We can’t stop it. PS5 pro is not sold with a disc drive. Physical games might soon be a thing of the past. Nintendo is a hold out but they might cave in time. There are fewer physical Xbox games being made today. I would start buying them up if you can.
@Cwaytons You make valid points. Digital is coming that's for sure. But that doesn't mean we have to Just throw her hands up and say forget about physical games. Because if we did that would put a lot of businesses out of business. Ask for Xbox Modern games I don't see anything past the original and the 360 worth collecting. Modern Xbox games have too much weird internet requirements or DRM shenanigans for my liking. I don't even have a modern Xbox console. But yeah modern PlayStation and Xbox I find to be pretty disappointing. With all the games going to PC it's questionable to even pick up a PS5 or series whatever. I guess we'll find out what Nintendo plans to do. How long they will hold on to physical game media.
Some great points, Phil! Collecting has always been bittersweet. Seeing reprints is lovely for preservation and more people experiencing the games, but seeing them flood the market and lower the value of games we counted among our rarer and more valuable ones is a tough pill to swallow. Great video, brother! ❤
@@ColdNightsGaming Thanks so much, Well I guess you have to think about it this way. If you bought the game for MSRP and it's now valuable but a reprint causes the value to tank back to MSRP price for close to around that. You really didn't lose out on anything. In fact you still profited because you got it for exactly what you put into it. And by the way if you're never going to sell it what does it matter how much value it had? If all you're going to do is sit on it then it going for tons of money is just a bragging right something to flaunt It doesn't really matter. The only time it would really matter about the value of it tanking is if you desperately needed the money and you had to sell it. And that instance I could understand why it would bother someone. @@millasgameroom Definitely nothing wrong with that. I still want to get some retro games here and there. But emulating is a great way to go. And for the truly special games physically as well. If they did that for all the old games so that they're preserved physically in a legal way. Then the amount of people that would pirate would have plummeted. But unfortunately they didn't care enough about those games to do that. Because ultimately they don't care about the games. They see it as a means to make money nothing more nothing less. That's why we have to be the voice to change the way things are. And until everybody works collectively together to do that. Of course they dont want to reprint. They want you to pay the digital price (usually more expensive than physical) so you cant cut their sales on the used game market.

Also never forget overtime blu ray discs can get disc rot.
That's true. Sure hope it don't happen to any of mine because I got almost 400 games sitting on the shelf. But all these things will wear out eventually. That's why we should spend time enjoying these things while we have them instead of worrying about value. A good way to make a little money is to use some of those receipt scanning apps.
I don't trust modern game rarity because modern games can always be reprinted.
Also on digital.

Remember the Xbox One launch they tried to do a bunch of crazy nonsense that everybody hated them for? They didn't change their plan They just presented it a different way. Some good points! I'd say a game is only worth the amount of money you think it is
@@ArchLightning001 That is true. Why do we let so many people dictate how valuable something is? The only real value is what you think it is. Until we get to the point of realizing this and stop letting other people convince us this game is worth $500 then the market will never change. We have to change the market. We ultimately are in control of it. But we let scalpers and greedy corporations act like they are the ones in control of it.
Great discussion here!
I think they are the scalpers. Its a side hussle for them.
Really great points Phil and a good solution at the end.
Right on, Phil. Games are supposed to get cheaper and then get expensive overtime of rarity.
@@doctorgames101b yep that's the natural order of things. But unfortunately greed has corrupted things and people are only becoming more and more greedy. I may not like the prices of retro games. And of course Covid The last few years with the COVID lockdown really did a damage on retrop prices. But the value majority went up over time. It makes no sense that we're seeing those same prices for modern releases that can be reprinted right now at any moment. In fact VGP just announced today that Scorn I mentioned in this video is now on a discount for Cyber Monday. You can get the game even cheaper than it was when I made this video. That's probably not going to make scalpers happy. But anybody that wants a copy of that game can now do so At a cheaper price. Thanks for watching.
Higher physical costs and fake rarity is a sneaky way to drive up digital sales.
@@royceburgess9730 That's definitely true. But I will say these digital prices on PCs with multiple digital stores to pull from means there's competition and the prices are competitive. Artelier Ryza and Artelier games in general are pricey. Ryza games still sell for iver $40 used at gamestop. Thats pricey.
Last I saw the digital to physical ratio was around:
80/20 on Xbox
70/30 on PlayStation
60/40 on Switch
So the customers have spoken with their dollars and they have chosen digital unfortunately.
It's tough to lose a collection, but you're right, memories are priceless and worth more than any physical item.
She has no attachment to any real toys So physical media is completely lost on her.
Its a huge mess, because resellers and collectors are buying all this stuff up "before it gets expensive",
so between panic buying, low prints, Fomo, limited release, Multiple editions, it just feeds it self.
The argument about "artificial rarity" overlooks several critical factors in the video game industry. To expect developers and publishers to manufacture copies of games perpetually to prevent high resale prices is not just impractical; it misunderstands the logistics and economics of production.
Estimating Demand is Not Simple:
Predicting how many copies of a game will sell is not an exact science.
The Economics of Reprinting:
Printing another run of a game isn’t as simple as hitting a button. Publishers need to evaluate if demand justifies the costs of production, licensing, and logistics. If the market for a game is limited to niche collectors or secondhand buyers, the financial viability of reprinting may not make sense.
Resale Prices Reflect Scarcity, Not Publisher Malice:
The high prices in secondhand markets reflect supply and demand dynamics.

@@DoYouNerd lmao 🤣 poor Jim I hope you gave him some turkey and dressing He's probably going to need to put some meat on those bones after being just skin and bones.
As a collector and Reseller i can say its Extremely easy to flip short printed switch/ ps4 / ps5 games People miss their initial window to buy and want the items so bad It's so easy to double or Triple Your investment 👍 I use that to buy games i want.
@@Jackbat69 I don't necessarily have anything against resellers. One of my friends resells and she's a sweetheart. But when it comes to people who deliberately robbed someone's chance of having something and use greed in order to do it or spend all their time gloating and personally being toxic online because they have quote "RARE GAME" is wrong. Video games and all entertainment is meant to be enjoyed and loved by everyone not just the elect few. Thanks so much for watching.
This is nonsense. 90% of all physical games can be played, see the Doesitplay page.
@Phil1Up_Collects what i do now buy digital first and if I really enjoy the game and it has a disc version will try to buy a copy
I agree with you modern gaming sucks now
That's why I felt it was weird to see all those big UA-camrs saying they're getting out of retro selling their retro games I'm like are you sure you want to do that? retro games don't have all the annoying problems we have to deal with today.
Millenials are the last generation to care for physical games.
100% TRUE!!!
dropping them facts
Thats the problem, they dont reprint the games. Out of all the consoles, the Switch physical media will always rise in price regardless if they are complete or not. Anything Nintendo will be far more valuable than any other console. I picked up Ultra Street Fighter for the Switch when it first launched and a few days ago I saw on ebay, a couple of sellere are asking $399 for it. Crazy times.
Because only the AAA titles get reprinted. Niche titles have a one year warranty on shelves.
@@CNP023 Yeah it's crazy how that is but it just makes no sense because these games in theory can be reprinted It's the license holders they don't want to. That's why if there's a game you're interested in getting reprinted definitely reach out to VGP use your voice let the publishers know Because if enough people say something and they show that there is demand there a reprint can be made It's possible because we've seen it happen Square Enix did it with Pixel remaster so if they can do it I'm sure other companies can.
@@Phil1Up_CollectsIve ordered the Xenoblade collection and Signalis from VGP. Signalis is going for over $100 because of that lenticular card inside. Not that important to me to pay those prices because of picture.
I still need to grab a copy of that game I love horror titles
Well nothing really is
Retro games can still be printed but they arent very often. Iam8bit puts out snes carts for anniversaries like megaman and street fighter, granted theyre expensive, but theyre actual carts. Limited run does the same thing. In reality sqaure enix could reprint actual snes carts of chrono trigger if they wanted to for example, and they would sell out immediately
@@SomeRetroGuy Yeah we do NES aftermarket carts at premium so I know that's possible. But when it comes to PS1 PS2 GameCube PS3 original Xbox 360 DS 3DS etc You can't reprint those anymore and it's a real shame cuz man if you could I would be stocked up on some of those
Limited print runs that become impossible to find have always been a thing with _niche_ titles. Look up Xenosaga episode 3, that PS2 game never got a second English print run and most of the copies ended up destroyed.
Big mainstream games going out of print quickly is absolutely a scam though yeah.
@@badlatency9979 yep that is pretty crazy. Speaking of xenos Saga not sure why we don't have a collection of that on modern consoles with how much the Xeno series is beloved it seems like a great time to make that happen.
@Phil1Up_Collects I don't know either.
You and me both brother. Also Xeno gears as well cuz why not? I'm still wondering why Sony is dragging their butts and not doing something with Legend of Dragoon Probably one of my favorite PS1 JRPGs of all time. a remake a remaster a sequel I don't care Get on it
Well you just gotta realise the demand for physical versions is dwindling every year. So yeah it makes sense publishers aren't printing more copies.
@@thatssomegoodpie Tell that to all the people who constantly shove out So much money for physical copies. Even now with all the Black Friday sales out of stock here out of stock there. A lot of times the physical copies are heavily discounted more than a digital code could ever be. At least when it comes to consoles because they have locked digital storefronts. Now on PC with multiple options to get those digital games at various different prices. You get a pretty good deal A lot of times even better than the discounted physical copy. But we are there yet with consoles. And as long as they have locked digital storefronts where they make all of the money we will never have fair and competitive digital prices. Which means those physical copies will be what people seek out. Especially when they can actually sell those copies and make money back. Unfortunately we can't sell a digital code of a game once we used or redeemed it. Maybe in a perfect world that would be possible. I just wish when they did put out a physical release they cared enough about making it complete and fully functional. Digital games should be cheaper than the physicals. And the physical games should be a high quality release that has some effort put behind it. Not shoved out the door to get a quick buck. Thanks for watching.

Appreciate you bro. Glad you enjoyed it!
i won't pay alot of money on games.i just looked for deals.ps5 is going be last generation console.
@Phil1Up_Collects that will be my last.i won't buy ps6 our pro.i will go pc just buy games from steam.i keep my other old games I enjoy
@shanenice5380 I think I'll do the same but I'll use GOG more they preserve games on PC allow you to make backups and they are DRM free.
Artificially lol they print how many they print, that doesnt make it artificial. Stop paying top dollaar & be mkre patient
But I guess if I was a greedy person I would have left it the way it is and then listed it on eBay and said "rare Walmart mistake PS5 game in original Walmart security box $5,000"
Unfortunately I wish we could reprint old games.
This is why NO FLASH PHOTOGRAPHY on Mona Lisa as those lights take off paint or color images.
I agree grading is so stupid
Its because most modern games are not very good that's why haha.
OOOOOOH DROPPING MAD BURNS 🔥🚒
But this video was talking more about modern games not necessarily the retro. The Retro were discontinued and it makes sense their value goes up. But it makes no sense for modern games that can still be reprinted today. That crap needs to stop. Thanks for watching brother.

Completely agree. I stopped retro collecting in part due to the cost. I'd rather just emulate on the Steam Deck, then only go after the few all-time classics I want down the line.
@@millasgameroom Definitely nothing wrong with that. I still want to get some retro games here and there. But emulating is a great way to go. I honestly feel like people wouldn't emulate if these companies cared enough about their Legacy titles enough to release them digitally with updated improvements. We will continue to have to deal with insane things like paying $200 for a brand new PS5 game that came out a year ago. Thanks so much for watching.
Of course they dont want to reprint. They want you to pay the digital price (usually more expensive than physical) so you cant cut their sales on the used game market.
yep you're definitely right there
Gamers are easy though. Look at what gamers are paying for video cards. Why not keep the pricing up. Astro Bot is a $39.99 game in my dojo, and I won't buy it until its at that price (or lower). No physical means no used market. Every gamer I talk too thinks physical is stupid today. Oh well.
They can think it's stupid they're entitled to that opinion but it doesn't mean their opinion is right It's all subjective. And I'm sure they spend a lot of money on stupid things. I'm also waiting for astrobot to be around that price. Thanks for watching.
Modern titles aren’t meant to be worth in value right now but in 20 years from now.
Concord is currently at $25k worth value.
@@therealjaystone2344 yep and it's stupid. It's literally a coaster You can't do anything with it.
