Technically Luke won because he excaped out of the body of Kronos that ended up killing himself and Kronos Percy helped survived planned an attack and saved others from dying Another technically is annebeth did by giving up her cursed blade with made Luke come out
Despite actually being in the silent generation, I think Nico is the embodiment of gen z. Very much, “Your gonna kill me? Please! No really please do.”
Where the two series split and made Percy Jackson my favorite, was definitely when dumbledore sent Harry back to an abusive home while Percy and his mom murder the shit out of his abusive stepdad
But they don't murder him together really. He gives his mom the head and let's her save herself, giving her back her agency after being an abuse victim. Which is just so much better.
Tamora Pierce's Circle of Magic series (Circle of Magic, The Circle Opens, and the Circle Reforged) has a similar thing that resolves in "Where we live doesn't matter, what matters is that we are family and that will never change." And these are four orphans who created a found family with their primary teachers taking on the role of their parental figures. This is toward the end of the whole series when they're all young adults and have made names for themselves. One girl is high nobility on both sides and has a good chance to become a duchess because her great uncle prefers her stability and intelligence over his own irresponsible children, one girl is a smith of such renown who has the backing of the largest minting guild on the continent, the boy is a plant mage worth a moderately sized fortune for his magical plants and ability to decoct medicine, and the fourth girl is basically a demigod. Like, they don't need each other to be able to live comfortable lives, but they love and rely on each other and WANT to be a family together. It's very sweet, despite the novels regularly stabbing you in the feels with trauma, characters being anxious about things, gruesome battles, and other troubling trigger warning worthy things. I adore this series and constantly try to recommend it to people because it is so well written.
@@mndlessdrwerit's interesting! Would you recommend it to a 15 boy who is obsessed with both the Harry Potter and Percy Jackson series, but isn't a big fan of Lord of the Rings? (Yes this boy is obviously me, I'm just curious about what is it like.)

The reason is that Harry is just told randomly that he has to die. Like his rocked to his core that, no, in the end, he HAS to die for them to win. Theres no other way. And to top it off, the one person he trusted most in the world knew the whole time and didnt tell him... PERCY on the other hand is told the moment he arrives at camp halfblood that for greek demigods, 17 is considered old age....and he's already 11. Infact, everyone around him is genuinely shocked he surived on his own til he was 11 without knowing he was a demigod. So he's fully aware that the end of the road will lead to his death and he just wants to save everyone he can. Thats why he can face down Ares at age 11 and somehow win...his whole mindset is "if I die, I die, because in the end I'll die anyways" No, Percy's world shattering moment is when he comes in contact with the ROMAN demigods and learns that not dying was even an option.
You are right. How ironic that the only thing that could shock Percy so much up until that point was realizing he could actually live past his teenage years.
Ikr! Percy didn’t expect to make it to adulthood, and realizing that HE COULD grow up (and that many of the Romans DID get that chance) changes the whole game because now he actually has a proper future to look forward to other than “save your friends and (maybe) survive while doing it”
@@tumblingartist his hero complex was starting to warp into a martyr complex and the fact that there was an honest chance Him and Anne could survive and settle down, even start a family, did a good job shocking him out of that.
Percy was actually a few months from turning 13 in the first book, but your point makes sense. Harry spent his whole wizarding life being guarded so closely so he could be kept alive, countless people sacrificing themselves for him since his birth, only to be told he needed to die in the end. Whereas Camp Half-Blood made Percy a funeral shroud whenever he left the damn state and even had a whole funeral for him once while he was gone. It also wasn't clear from Percy's perspective until the end that Percy actually was "the chosen one" because Thalia and Nico were also around, and the prophecy could have been about them instead if things went a little differently.

One of my favorite lines from all the Percy Jackson + Heroes of Olympus books is: "Jason woke up from his deathbed to go drown with the rest of the crew" It has that energy too.

"Harry you're gonna die" *pure existential crisis. Fighting as hard as he can to survive.* Percy: "we ride at dawn" "But you're gonna die" "I said we ride at dawn bitch!"
Percy had just got done riding a personal hurricane around like a hoverboard while fighting the Sun Titan. He heard this and basically said “The prophecy says nothing about dying on the battlefield, get my gear they can’t touch me”
I feel like Harry's so serious all the time and Percy is just...accidentaly setting schools on fire, speaking with fish and eating blue food. Plus Percy likes to name his chapters really weirdly. That's why I like Percy more. He's a keeper.
Well Percy did live with great Mom that actually cares for him and Harry lived with relatives who clearly hated him and made it so he knows he is a burden. That sets a base for how you see the world. Love them both tho.
I saw one dude say “Percy ‘Pay your child support’ Jackson questioned the system and forcibly changed it for the better. Harry Potter asked his slave to make him a sandwich and became a cop.”
This is so key to understanding the Harry Potter series core message. It’s a master class on how to frame things to defend an unjust status quo. The wizard Nazis true crimes end up being that they want things to be different, not that they hurt people.
Then the Kane Chronicles, then Magnus Chase and then you will have more obsessions in your life than already! Just don't ever watch the movies. They are mass illusions, made up from monsters, who want to kill people that like Percy Jackson, because they hate him
Harry: “so you raised me as a pig for slaughter? Are these my last moments? Tell Ginny I love her and regret breaking up with her right before a war.” Meanwhile Percy: “bitch do I really have to almost die AGAIN? I can’t do this anymore”
The end of book 1 in both series says everything imo: Dumbledore sending Harry back to an abusive household // Percy getting his mom Medusa’s head so she can murder her abusive husband
So, a realistic depiction of a person forced by their circumstances to live in an abusive household vs a wishful, easy escape of an abusive household with no repercussions, despite law enforcement being a recurring plot point in the entire book and their family being known to the entire country now. Yes, it does say a lot about both series.
@@VinnieMF they’re both wishful escapism, they’re fantasy books for kids. But one of them confronts and condemns abuse head-on while the other one tries to brush it aside and even justify Dumbledore knowingly keeping a kid trapped in an abusive situation while fully having the resources to get him out of it.
I liked Percy as a character because he shows what Gen Z is capable of being, completely dedicated towards a cause and the ones we love. His fatal flaw also reflected his character that he would sacrifice the world and himself for those he loved. Harry was dealing with the stress of a 40 year old throughout the books.

@@hungariangiraffe6361 Yes.
@@mndlessdrwerI LOVE Tamora Pierce!! While I love Percy Jackson and Uncle Rick, her Tortall books are my favorite. I haven't read the Circle series but they are on my list.
Thats why he can face down Ares at age 11 and somehow win...his whole mindset is "if I die, I die, because in the end I'll die anyways"
No, Percy's world shattering moment is when he comes in contact with the ROMAN demigods and learns that not dying was even an option.
@@ZekeBittersweet did I remember it wrong? Was he 13? Holy Hades that makes it so much worse. Thats practically middle aged. Could you imagine entering the game and being told out the gate that at max you got like 4 years left, and thats only if you prove yourself exceptional.

The end of book 1 in both series says everything imo:
Dumbledore sending Harry back to an abusive household // Percy getting his mom Medusa’s head so she can murder her abusive husband
