I'm sorry Anne, but there is an apparent blindness to your critique. Power struggles within the United States are based not on governing philosophy but on theocratic control of raw power. The pulpits across the country spew vitriol blaming those in power and the internationalists with their pain. It is a small group of facsists that are wielding disaffection at the political nature of power in the United States. They have given up on democracy and rhetoric as relevant or useful. Democracy means nothing in the context of a radicalized and misinformed and propagandized public. Good luck, the tree your barking up will likely be fruitless.
Having spent an hour railing against autocrats, Trump being her best “example”, Applebaum finishes with “once we’re all vaccinated……” the World will open up. The complete absurdity of her thinking seems to have escaped her!
She's a freaking propoganda specialist. Not a historian! Do some research! Applebaum IS the thought police. She's in an Integrity Initiative Cluster. Do yourself a favor and find out what that is. What a joke.
