I love the colour and slow energy in this peace - creaking springs, wind blowing. Snapshots through old walls, doors and windows. A glimpse of yesterday, flat tyres and old chairs. Romantic and sentimental, slightly Coenesque.
Gorgeous.. honestly, I can barely tell the difference between the T2i, 7D, and 5D anymore, they are all SOLID. Well done, I'm impressed.. Love and Aloha, Kalani-
Awesome work - especially the camera angles. I've explored these same buildings and trailers plenty of times. Just got back from a Salton Sea trip a few hours ago.

I use this video for inspiration. Im a Digital film student that uses this for so many references! I absolutely love this! Also I shoot with a 60D and love it!
Those colours are sublime! Your films have so much feeling to them, even without any music you still understand what you were trying to portray! Thank you for making and uploading these beauties! Love your work, makes me want to do the same!
you are the pro of pro's for DSLR's. I saw you on zacuto, and saw that skywalker ranch thing, and searched you on youtube. sure enough-- you have your own channel!!!!! your videos are awesome.
@KalaniPrince from what I read, the T2i and 7D are practically the same. The T2i might be a little more cropped than the 7D, but the main difference is the way they're built. Quality wise, a 7D can withstand thunder/snow storms where as the t2i is more brittle and isn't water proofed.
man this video is amazing! I've been so addicted to my T2i since i've gotten it. Hope my stuff turns out as good as yours one of these days. Hopefully before I have to update the t2i. :D
Ry Cooder is one of my favourite artists of all time. You've created visuals as great as the music, congratulations. I'm a big fan of your work, particularly with your DSLR work you really set the bar. Anyway i'm probably not the first person to tell you this, so i'll just say, amazing video.
@Mouriscas he has quite a few videos out there where he tells is picture style settings. he always says to turn contrast and sharpness all the way down.... i believe he takes the saturation down 2 steps also. My favorite picture style for my T2i is CineStyle.
Hi Philip. I have just got this camera and I am a complete novice with it. I've always used crappy camcorders, which I was a complete novice with too. Everything always on auto ;) I've come across a couple of your interviews on youtube and I am a massive fan already! This piece is incredible ... and to think it's on the 550/T2i. I have turned down my sharpness and contrast but that's all I understand so far LOL
@jdscamwatch1 i don't think much of this was autofocus. The reason it may seem like that is because the focus point is moving closer and further away which means it goes out of focus, then in, then out. Just seemed like a negative comment in eevryway, i think they did a great job.
Lovely. And if you haven't seen the movie PARIS TEXAS, do so. Question Mr Bloom: how do you get such great music? Do you license it all? Do you ask permission or just borrow and always give credit?
You truly did an amazing job, I loved the film, and thumbs up all the way... I'm currently working on a student film and had planned on using the Salton Sea area as my location as well, and I was wondering, when did you take these shots? Was it recent?
What kind of lenses/equipment and post production did you do use for the video? Looks absolutely brilliant. I just got the 550d and am trying to get these kinds of results.
Always good stuff!!! If I'm debating between the 550d and 7d but only looking at them for video, is there any major bonuses for getting the 7d, or can I pay half the price since I only want one of them for filmming?
Nice Video! I picked up my T2i last week and have been trying different settings. What was your shutter speed for this video ??? Also what software did you use to color grade?
I'm from Malaysia.I do admire your work Sir!.You are my inspiration.Just upgraded myself from point to shot camera to DSLR (T4i).Can you advise me what is the best lens for wide angle and micro or a prime lens that works with T4i?.Im a beginner and looking for a low budget lens to learn and work with.Currently I owned only a STM 18~135 lens.Thank you Sir
@derekf138 Sorry to butt in, other than the build difference, you lose the ability to shift exposure and shutter at the same time without the rear wheel. If your happy without fine iso adjustment the metering and film is basicly identical if not a little better in the T2i.
Nice video. Philip, I know that you are not bias. I am trying to decide between the T2i and the GH1. Some people say that the GH1 video is better because the AVCHD codec is superior but for me I do not see a diference and Canon has more accessories and lenses. I want the camera for stock videos. In Pond5, Istock, and Shutter Stock, I see that buyer purchase more clips from Canon DSLRs than those from Lumix GH1. You have tested both cameras. Which is better for stock video?
@chaly007 It's not the camera. I don't have that problem. I'm a noob so maybe I haven't experienced it yet. I'm assuming its from the editing software or something.
could you please write down the settings that your using ? and if this is a color correction preset ? please name it :D or sendit , thats a PERFECT VIDEOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO. and STILL CAMERA ? how did you get that ? or all natural
I love the colour and slow energy in this peace - creaking springs, wind blowing. Snapshots through old walls, doors and windows. A glimpse of yesterday, flat tyres and old chairs. Romantic and sentimental, slightly Coenesque.
Even after 11 years, I search and watch it again and again.
I just can't stop watching this....
Gorgeous.. honestly, I can barely tell the difference between the T2i, 7D, and 5D anymore, they are all SOLID. Well done, I'm impressed..

Wenders would love it...nice and tasteful colour grading....

This video really makes me think of some post-apocalyptic world, somewhere where humans suddenly've disappeared, great work

Geez Phil, you find beauty in the roughest places. You're a video poet.
Good lord, This is crazy! I own the same camera but damn.. I now see it's all about skills not the hardware. Lot's of respect man!
The grading on this is brilliant!
@KalaniPrince

I visit this video every so often, saw it when it first premiered,
Some of the best t2i footage out there
Very inspiring video.
This so damn good, too damn good. I don't think I'd be able to do this, even with an Epic or something.
Very nice work Phil, keep it up mate
Well done sir!
@philipbloom this was just amazing

Cant believe that it is the 550D, actually looks better than some videos made in the 5d !
Just one thing... PERFECT VIDEO/AUDIO QUALITY
brilliant!

how was the camera shielded from the sandstorm?
Lovely.
And if you haven't seen the movie PARIS TEXAS, do so.
Question Mr Bloom: how do you get such great music? Do you license it all? Do you ask permission or just borrow and always give credit?
Mind = blown up

i was waiting for a zombie jumping into the scene, because it reminds me of "the hills have eyes" ;)
Nice Vid.. Did you use a polarizer or just post grade? Love the dolly shots by the way..
Always good stuff!!! If I'm debating between the 550d and 7d but only looking at them for video, is there any major bonuses for getting the 7d, or can I pay half the price since I only want one of them for filmming?

This looks amazing... What kind of lens did you use?

Amazing, what are the lenses used? Any 35mm used or what?
By the way, 2 quick questions for ya:
1. What lens did you use?
2. Did you use the camera's mic or a separate one leading in?
what editing software did you use,and what were the rendering parameters for UA-cam... :D
thnx
@chaly007

A t2i produz toda essa qualidade ou tenho que ajustar efeito?
Kit wise I used the camera, 1 32gb Kingston card, 1 16gb Transcend card, a manfrotto tripod, Kessler Crane Pocket Dolly Traveller, Manfrotto 701 HDV head, Canon 100m F2.8L MACRO, 50mm F1.2L, 70-200 F2.8L IS, Tokina 11-16 F2.8, Zacuto Z-Finder and some fader NDS/ Vari NDS.
@koxxx do you know the settings he used on this camera
o que voc me diz do som dessa t2i ?? é de qualidade?? é verdade entaum neh q ela simula mesmo video cinema:?
Hi Philip, did you use Magic Lantern for this shoot?
Can I ask a few questions..
1) What lens did you use ( 18-55mm?)
2) Do you need a 32GB Class 10 Memory Card?
3) Did you buy a glidecam? and how much?
Ry Cooder elevates any video. Good choice.
Save up for the Tokina 11-16 f2.8. Absolutely worth it! Incredibly sharp.
I need one of these cameras.
could you please write down the settings that your using ? and if this is a color correction preset ? please name it :D or sendit ,
