    My Granny had her own cow when my Mom was growing up. She used to milk the cow, put the milk in a churn sitting right beside the wood stove and let it sit to ferment for a day or 2, then churn it and make her own cultured butter. After the butter was churned, what was left was cultured buttermilk. Very few do that these days. Of course back then, they didn't call it "cultured" they just called it butter..and buttermilk lol
    Granny would send my Mom to school with lunch.. homemade buttermilk biscuits with homemade butter inside. This was in the late 1930s and early 1940s

    I used to like "real" buttermilk, which is an actual product of the process of making butter (it's the liquid left after butter is churned from cream) but the commercial product seems too thick to me, and more sour. Is it a common beverage in Russia? I didn't think anyone actually drank buttermilk anymore...

    • @VictoriaPaikin
      @VictoriaPaikin  8 років тому

      It is common beverage in Russia it's more like thin plain yogurt or kefir.

    In the south here, a lot of old people eat cornbread with buttermilk. They put cornbread in a bowl, and pour buttermilk over it and eat it with a spoon, like a cereal. It's mostly a night time food for them. Also, we make buttermilk biscuits with it. Those are yummmy!!

    I've had buttermilk before years ago, and I don't recall disliking it, so it must've been alright! I no longer consume dairy for health reasons, however. My absolute favorite milk is unsweetened vanilla cashew milk by Silk brand. OMG. it tastes AMAZING!

    Это скорее обычная европейская еда. В русской кухне традиционно много каш, хлеба, овощей и супа. Но сейчас в России традиционные блюда не так распространены. Сейчас все едят обычную еду, которую можно встретить в любой европейской стране. Правда качество русских продуктов не такое высокое, как в северной или центральной Европе, т.к. уровень жизни и заработной платы в России гораздо ниже.

    • @47462vladi
      @47462vladi 7 років тому

      Понятие "русская кухня" возможно существует где-нибудь в сибирской глубинке, куда ещё не добрался рэсторан Макдональдс и суси (суши).
      "уровень жизни и заработной платы в России гораздо ниже." Это только для "совков", понаехавших, пенсионеров и студентов он ниже планки. Для мажоров, продвинутых, бизнесменов и многочисленных иностранцев он на порядок выше. :-)))
