  • This was probably the oldest property I have explored, it had some incredible things from when it was a working Welsh farm house including the old fire & well pump (which still worked) after we left the house and to our complete surprise we found an extremely rare Alvis Woody in one of the barn’s!!! This car is from the 1940’s and was in absolutely incredible condition! One of the best and oldest barn finds I’ve ever found!

The fact that the house is strapped and also all the loos etc been saved and stored securely along with the car suggests to me that someone means to preserve the house. Which would be amazing, all those original features! It's sad society doesn't protect our history like it should. Thanks for sharing with us.

Alvis cars were always a bit special and very expensive in their day. I have one in restoration all parts are bespoke and need to be made by a specialist. The pot hook as you call it is a chimney crane and you could swing it out to pour a cuppa without lifting. Great video thanks

Amazing to see all the beams in this really old house, I think the plaster maybe called 'wattle and daub' I could be wrong! Would live to know the history of this place. This building isn't as old as you seem to think, or at least the brickwork isn't, probably Victorian. Look at the morter. The timber frame may be older but then we're still constructing new timber frame houses, so it probably contemporary to the brickwork.

Fabulous visual with the car & beams - great editing there - great find too! As someone has noted - you should inform the local museum and/or historical society. Chimney is Elizabethan
and m any of the bricks too much smaller than later bricks which got larger 18th and again C19th and turn of the century.

Loved watching that, glad that people are respectfully exploring places like that and posting vids. I will say though that in terms of architectural autopsy, I kept wanting to tell you things that were being misinterpreted. There were signs that someone is restoring the oak frame gradually as I saw some green wood behind you when you were upstairs and a great deal of the brick infill between the posts and rails was quite new, I'd imagine to stop the weather getting in and causing the structure to rack: (lean over until the frame of the house becomes non-viable for repair.) I have never seen such a well preserved scullery unrestored as the one where you entered the building, that on it's own was a treat, the rest of it was icing on the cake. Keep it up! And the front door was pretty new, as were the pink primer painted window frames that had timber planted on the edges of the window openings in the frame in order that they will fit, probably temporarily. I think it is a listed building and that someone is working to a schedule of both preservation and sensitive repair, but on a budget. If anyone has a different view, I would be interested to hear their take on what they see.

Loved this video because I love really old houses & love really old cars. One of my Grandfathers had an old Austin A5, which I just remember. After that he had a Wolsey which he made last for the rest of his life (with a lot of filler). The back of that Alvis reminds me of a friends' Morris Traveller, growing grass, moss, fungi, & ferns by the end, but we loved it.

When you are at an old place like this it is always worth looking around outside for old garden & food plants. Things like roses & apple & plum trees or hazels can last a long time. Bulbs like daffodils will spread themselves. Herbs like marjoram or mint or burdock seed themselves for generations. It all adds to the picture of how people lived in the place. Medicinal plants such as elder trees that provided flowers for tea or wine & berries for cough syrup or wine making may be there too.
