This is not only ancient Chinese woodworking technique various other country have same technique. For example in Indian state puri odisha during cart festival the diety ,and his cart are crafted with similar technique even today and talking about size the diety itself is as big as 1 story building and his cart too , without using a single nail and they even use hammers made of wood because use of any metal is forbidden. And same goes in various other countries and tradition too.
