The best part of this video for me is your voice and the quiet sounds of the woodworking.
I’m gonna have to say that’s one of the best comments I’ve ever received on my UA-cam channel. Very very much appreciated, Michael.
Turning allows the creative mind to be engaged, thanks for the effort to video and share! Can’t wait to get to the shop!
Phil, thank you and I couldn’t agree more. Especially about getting back in the shop. Michael
Like the bowl. Glad to have found your channel.
John, thank you so much for the kind comment and supporting the channel. Michael.

Wow, thank you! Love the very kind comment. Makes all the effort that goes into producing content worth it Michael.
Nice work. I enjoyed the video. Thanks for sharing your work.
Glad you enjoyed it. Thanks for taking the time to write. The more I know that people are enjoying the content the more I want to continue my UA-cam experiment. Thank you again, Michael.
Subscribed, hope to see more videos from you!
I very much appreciate the support! Stay tuned for the upcoming video on the Maple Burl and walnut base vase that I recently made. Cheers, Michael
Very nice. Great use of cutoffs.
Glad you liked it! One of my favorite pastimes is making something out of leftover pieces, scraps or whatever is laying around the shop. Thanks for the comment and have a great day.
Good work! You got yourself a new follower.
Kevin, Much thanks and I appreciate the support! Super happy you enjoyed the build.
Beautiful work. I would like to create something similar. Lots of scrap in my shop.
What’s an old saying about woodworkers that will keep every little piece of wood laying around the shop;
always saving it for some project !
Well, there’s no time like the present so I’d say start gluing those pieces up and turn yourself a nice bowl. Cheers, Michael.
Thank you this is absolutely amazing and stunningly beautiful. Wow.
Beautiful!
Thanks so much! Happy to see you’re enjoying the channel. Michael
Thanks for a great video. My only request would be for you to talk about speed and tool selection a little more. As a newbie I appreciate learning from experienced turners.
Noted! And thanks for the suggestion. I will certainly keep that in mind while walking on the next video. I appreciate you taking the time to comment. Take care, Michael.
Very cool bowl and love the wood combination
Just found your channel and look forward to see what else you create
I do this a lot but never tried it this way great kob
Tim, thank you! It’s great when folks make comments. Make all the video production time worth it. Michael
Awesome turn love the grain I’m gonna try it but not ready for the 3 corner looks to dangerous for me rite now but I love it thanks for sharing
Jim, it can be dangerous when turning odd shapes but you just focus on keeping your hands away from the project, which I suppose you should do even on perfectly round turns. Thanks for the kind words. Michael
Very nice work.
Thank you very much! I appreciate you taking the time to comment.
Interesting approach
I think so too! Wayne, I appreciate you watching and taking the time to comment. Have a great day Michael.
This is amazing!
I'd LOVE to know the total time it takes from the original gluing to the finished product!!!
Good question! I don’t regularly track how much time it takes me to make things, but I would say this particular project might’ve taken 4 to 5 hours total. Thanks for the kind comment. Take care, Michael.
@@SapperWoodworking I appreciate your reply!!!
In my mind (& I would have lost money on this bet!) I would have bet literally a week!!!
I'm happy to follow your channel! 😁
Nice work. I have made a few of them three corner bowls! Not like the one just did. What is the swing on your lathe? My swing is only 12 inch so my bowls are smaller.
Thanks! My swing is 24 inches. Upgraded from a smaller lathe a few years ago without any regrets. Michael
That looked like it could get uncomfortable on the hands for a while.
Actually, it’s not that bad on the hands. You get used to it after a while. Thanks for watching. It’s much appreciated Michael.
would it be possible to turn small bowls on a drill press? lathes are a bit pricey
It’s possible I suppose! But I think a horizontal tool rest would be the safest and simplest was to go. If you make one work, I would love to see a video of it. Good luck and have a great day Michael.
How did you make the holder, bracket, stand for you exhaust hose? Any tips would be appreciated.
Dennis,
I didn't have any plans to follow. I just started with how large I wanted the opening to be and worked to the back where the 4" hose was attached. It was originally built for a smaller lathe so it was modified with some spacers to make it taller for my Harvey lathe (12" swing). If you send a message to sapperwoodworking@ G M A I L . C O M, (without the spaces in GMAIL.COM) I can send you some better pictures.
what lathe make and model are you using in the video? Thanks
The lathe is a Harvey Tools Turbo T-60S. Simply the best lathe I’ve ever turned on! It has great torque at low RPM among host of other great features. (And I’m not sponsored or affiliated with Harvey in any way). Cheers, Michael
Awesome. Thanks for the info. I will check out their website.@@SapperWoodworking
Where did your tool post adapter come from?
Brad, it was purchased off eBay, brand new still in box. It is the Rikon Tool Rest Height extension, part number 70-959. Seller was “fredgs ” Michael
