I agree. I actually don't have a TV. My wife and myself made a decision not to buy a TV when we got married. It's been 6 years now and still no TV. We don't need it. We are more productive. But sometimes you still just feel like putting your feet up. Then channels like this on youtube is what I enjoy. I like watching things that won't waste my time. Things I can learn from when I'm relaxing. Because I also started a garden and started fruit trees from seed in pots.

James, You are so right about gardening. The feeling of watching a seed you lovingly planted burst out of the soil, grow and then harvest fresh, sweet, water filled fruit or veggie is so special.

Soooo..I love the longer vids..I usually watch them two or three times while I dream my next garden into existence. Your vids are very healing to me, they spark hope into what I envision my next gardening journey to be. As you know, my town burnt to the ground..But Guess What I HAVE! I went up to the prop to scavenge around and found three seedling Trees, only was remains but its looking good so far. From one of my gone now walnut trees! So now that seeding is representing the beginning of what will be my new food forest down the road a bit, it will be my gardian tree.
Keep doing what you do my friend,

I love any video you post. I watch them all the way through. And it’s so true about the tomatoes from the store. Anyone that says that has never grown a tomato. I actually think people that don’t like tomatoes is because they’ve never had a real one. Thank you James! I started my garden this year after a few years of not having one. You inspired me!!!!

Omg your winecaps are ginormous! You dont need to buy spawn, you have avery healthy colony going already! Synergy in action, you will start getting new species you did not plant. Move the chips near that monster king stropharia when its done spawning, with some fresh clean woodchips, and you will have them everywhere!
Love seeing what you are doing. My food forest is tiny, as my yard is about 500 sq feet. But I get a lot from it, 9 years in and so glad I did it! Still refining...
I agree--start now! With whatever you can. Learn and grow, grow and learn.
Last year I had enough extra pears and peaches that it was easy to share with friends and neighbors! And they are blown away by the flavor and succulence! Store peaches=cardboard. Real abundance, with some tlc and patience. Your work on your garden and in showing this to others is sacred, priceless, and an act of pure love.
Zone 5 Wis here. You are almost 3-4 weeks ahead of us in growing terms. I am getting a sneak preview of my own yard!

Put in six small raised beds this yr so I can keep the rabbits out. I also got to put in 7 fruit trees that are dwarf. It was a lot of work but so worthwhile. Now a native peach is coming up and will replace a dying dogwood. You are a big part of why I got this done it was that your doing all this here in overtaxed Jersey. As per waiting for your big perfect space, you are SO RIGHT!!! I was born & raised in NYC and never had any soil of my own-- but I started with a few pots on a porch in my teens-- a cherry tomato, a cucumber, a few herbs. When I moved to a new state I had a bigger space-- a patio. More pots-- started growing zucchini, leafy greens, etc., utilized wire shelf racks and hanging pots to maximize space. I grew a lot in that small 6-x-12 space and learned a lot and got a lot of joy and satisfaction out of everything that came out of my container garden. Then I rented a house with a yard. More space, but I couldn't tear up the land so more pots, kept increasing what I grew and experimented.
Now I live in KY and I have a cottage on a sunny 1/4 acre and I've been putting in beds and working on it-- it is my dream garden, and my previous experience has me ready for it. But also it would have been sad to go 30/40 years without gardening just because I was waiting for this space, so much joy I would have missed out on. I say if all you can do is pots of herbs on a windowsill, don't wait. Indulge with what you can, you will appreciate everything you get out of it. Never wait to get your hands in the dirt.

You may be too hard on yourself and not totally realizing how important your work is, but I wanna say this, all your hard work and dedication and sharing is important to me and I'm sure it is to many others. Hope you stay inspired and passionate about what you do

James, I just want you to know I really do appreciate your channel. I’ve been following your channel for the past 2+ years. You have inspired me so much. I’ve been working so much in trying to turn my 2.8 acres into permaculture food source. Boy, this has been a total learning experience for me. I’m loving it! It keeps me busy! This will take years but, I’m all for it! Thank you! :-D

In spite of the COVID pandemic I'm busier then ever in the garden. 20 minutes max for us as we watch the videos during breakfast and need to get outside early.

i constantly find myself rewinding videos. If i miss even one sentence... Or just a few seconds of video. I'm afraid of what info i might be missing. And what lovely plants im not seeing! Really really glad i found your channel. This is a place of peace for me, can't even imagine the feeling YOU get in YOUR food forest. Must feel amazing. I need a new life away from alcohol... I need the plant life. I wish it was closer to spring but thankfully you've shared what we can do in the autumn! Time to resume watching! Thanks James! Amazing following along

I came across your channel 3 years ago when I first started gardening. I was like. "I don't understand half of what he is talking about." This winter after a few set back with my 2nd year garden I spent time reading, watching videos and learning my craft. Now that I took the time to learn the basics words like, harding, pruning and such your channel has become an inspiration! I planted 4 trees, gooseberry and more raspberry, and I plan to do more. Thank you for inspiring, teaching & calming. Just found my first aphids ever. Thanks to you I didn't freak out. Just went to work, and said to myself "losses happen but I am in this for the long haul." Thanks again

I live in Upstate NY and it's crazy how far ahead you're plants and trees are already. Flowers have just opened on our peaches, plums and pear, apple trees are a day or two away for blossom.

Make your videos as long as they need to be. I appreciate your enthusiasm and passion! I crave your knowledge and your techniques. A passionate gardener could talk gardening all day long! Keep the videos coming. Don't worry about the length!

love your gardens, James! I live in NJ, too. I'd like to ask which berry is the best to try planting first. I cannot imagine how you maintain your prolific garden. Keep the videos going because you inspire so many of us. Long or short, I will watch and enjoy them all.

On this topic, James, your garden and whatever fruit and veggies you're growing always look so healthy. Except the groundhogs and birds and a few other pests, what do you do to combat pests? I know you've often said you garden with nature not against it and I support this philosophy 100%. Yet, I've grown strawberries many of which were eaten by centipedes, broccoli destroyed by aphids, pheasants and guinea fowl pecking at my bell peppers and snails feasting on all my greens...spinach, lettuces, etc. What do you do, organically, to protect your crops as it seems you have only minor pest issues? For. the most part you're getting bumper crops of delish, vine-ripened healthy, juicy fruit & veg. What's the secret?

Hey James and Tuck! The food forest really going! Makes me happy to watch 'cause the trees are *just* starting to bud here in NE Canada. I was feeling bad for the peach tree after the hard prune but it really sprung back! Great Work!

James, I am with you all the way. I am not waiting for my (first) ten acre property. I have (starting last July...now it is January) started turning my less than a fifth of an acre, construction material based, rented inner city lot. And our orientation year (the latter part of last season here in Tucson, AZ) was wonderful! We got about a dozen winter squash, and a lot of green onions. Now, we have red russian kale growing, and a few other things. I am going full steam ahead.
We tried propegating 32 Moringa Tree cuttings, and have good growth on the largest one. Sprouted its first leafs on Christmas day!
It is my intention to make a living from the food I grow on this tiny, garbage soil, city lot.

I also enjoy the longer videos. No need to follow the herd with short videos. Gardening requires patience anyway. I watch your videos instead of netflix when I'm going to bed. Thanks to you I have woodships in my garden now and a one month old urban food forest. Keep up the awesome work! Love from San Francisco
