I love this story so far and how far we've come. If this was written back when being gay was less acceptable, the romance would have been between Charlie and Ben and the assault would have been seen as "romantic." I'm glad we've moved past it to a point we can show kids what's healthy and what isn't. A true love story.

I hear what you’re saying and I agree, but unfortunately there still stories made today where the romance is toxic and abusive and it ends with them getting together in the end. Like Catra and Adora from She-ra, Pearl from Steven Universe falling in love with Rose Quartz (Pink Diamond) who literally had her as a slave and others I can’t remember at the moment.
But I agree that it’s nice how this show is showing healthy and cute relationships.

Oh wow, I just felt you took a step into my realm. I work in a big book store chain in my country, and my job is in the English department (I live in a non-native English speaking country). Heartstopper is a favorite comic book of mine but also one of the best books sold in my department. I am responsible for all the stores to get all the best stuff from what my department imports and these comic books by Alice Oseman are just capturing the top best sellers here.
Also, yesterday I watched the whole first season (no spoilers I promise) and look how Isaac is holding a book each time he is on screen, and how Charlie actually has 4 Alice Oseman books on his shelves in his room. Also Alice Oseman herself is showing up on screen herself in the last episode (I won’t say when so to not spoil any scene).
I felt like my wonderful world of books integrated into TV.
Yeah, that was a really nice detail that Isaac is holding a book every time he is on screen. I’m a book reader so that was just nice to see because I do the same thing lol.
The way all of us lit up when we found out we were getting a trans girl in this show!! I was like, ELLE!?! WHEN!?! And it was like ten seconds, and it still felt so long.

I finished this show in the night and it was extraordinary
I knew Ben was bad news from reading the comic, but I love how they introduced him to the show audience. Charlie walks in and maintains eye contact, asks how he's been after a long time apart, meanwhile Ben is super dismissive while ONLY looking at Charlie's lips. The actor also really nailed the sleezy vibe Ben has in the comic (honestly, all the acting/direction is between good and amazing in this show).
Elijah's reaction to us British kids not being aloud our phones in school is the most relatable shit I've ever seen xD
YES!! HEARTSTOPPER!!! I’ve read the comic at least 5 times and it’s so good! I recommend continuing to read it, and I will say, the Netflix adaptation feels pretty accurate (with some minor changes but I think it adds to the charm :3) and I’m so happy you’ll be reacting to it!

@@rorywalker6670 I think they replaced Aled with Isaac because Aled has his own story and i assume they didn't want to throw too much stuff in the mix. Even the author said that she didn't explore Aled's character in Heartstopper's comic because it would've been too much things to focus on. (Sorry for my poor english ahah)
@@massimok267 It's more because he's a principal character in one of Alice Oseman's other books, Radio Silence. They didn't include him in the show in case Radio Silence gets adapted someday so they would be able to keep the shared universe without worrying about the actor's age.
My only thing is (if there’s a second season) what are they gonna do with the Paris trip since one of the main plot points was Tao & Charlie having a disagreement?

This show covers all the LGBT (Lesbians - Tara and Darcy, Gay - Charlie, Bisexual - Nick, Transgender - Elle). That's absolutely amazing! Fun fact, Yasmin Finney (the actress who plays Elle) is an actual trans girl, too.

omg I remember reading the comics a while ago and hearing about it being turned into a show, it actually happened thats so cool!!
7:27 my middle school (USA) was super super strict about not having phones out at lunch. Even if you were outside at recess. No phones.
And if you had earbuds/AirPods in, depending on the lunch aid and what mood they were in, they will most of the time, just give you a look. A look of warning or something. Or sometimes tell you to put it away before they take it.
Once my friend had her phone in her pocket, she took her phone out (it was still half inside her pocket) to check the time, and a lunch aid came over and tried to take her phone. (I don’t remember if she did or not, I think she might’ve.) like girl. You’re probably getting paid 3 cents an hour, you are not paid enough to care this much.
Meanwhile, my high school didn’t give two 💩, as long as you weren’t harassing people or throwing food across the room, or doing something illegal, what you did is your business.

One of the things Ben does that really shows how self-centered he is that when Charlie says he doesn't want to meet up anymore Ben demands his immediate attention and justification for not meeting up. When we've seen how he drops Charlie like the drop of hat with no explanation

Yeah in UK schools, they ask you to hand your phones in at the beginning of the day to avoid distraction, cheat in class or text others. Its very normal to hand it into your form tutor but we tried to hide them in our blazers. Been out of school since 2012, but good to know this is still on going...

There's many differences of the show and the books. Stuff is in a different order, tori is revealed to be canonically asexual, we only see Ben in the first book for a little bit, tori gets a boyfriend, Isaac and imogen don't exist, and there's another character named Aled who is Charlie and tao's friend. That's only some of the differences. Oh yeah, and Charlie gets diagnosed with OCD and anorexia.

As a british person i can confirm that schools are really strict (especially about phones)here. Like my school had a massive garage door on the toilets that they would lock during lessons.
