- Airbrushing and Layering @TheArmyPainter Speedpaint 2.0. This huge and beautiful oriental dragon is by @PrintedObsession . Base colors and final shades with Army Painter Speedpaint 2.0 . Layering and highlights with Cuttlefish Colors.
The dramatic 😅 thumbnail is because, same time last year we discovered that my wife has breast cancer. And Printed Obsession immediately subscribed for a full year at my Patreon, to help with the cost of the cancer treatment.
Anyways, needless to say, this miniature painting of this Oriental Dragon by Printed Obsession is extra special.

Bro. I hope your wife gets well soon.
I hope so too man! I hope so too! 💙
Saying a prayer for your wife my man. Thank you for continuing to do these videos under all that difficulty
Thank you! Painting and making videos became an escape for me. 😊
What I like about your videos is how you breakdown how the various Speedpaints can work together, like the various pinks on the tongue and claws.
Thanks! Glad you like the video. 😊🎨🎨🎨
Hope your wife is well! This painting is stunning
Thank you! She seems fine… hopefully she is fine. 💙🎨🎨🎨
I love your videos, thank you for sharing your passion and your skill in what I'm sure is one of the most difficult chapters of your life. Bless you, man
Thank you Dalton! Appreciate it a ton! 😊🎨🎨🎨
Don, this is amazing. Beautiful model and great colourchoice. All the best for your wife. Never loose Hope
Thanks thanks man! Appreciate it a ton! 😊🎨🎨🎨
Beautiful work and best wishes to you and your wife. Wishing her a speedy recovery.
Thank you so much! 😊🎨🎨🎨
My thoughts and prayers with you bro, hope everything gets the best
Thank you! We have another check up first week next month. I hope she’s fine. 😊
Ooh, I love seeing that Familiar Pink over the princess pink. That has been my favorite speedpaint combo lately. I like to thin it down and use it as a glaze to pick out noses, ears, and other areas that would get a bit more blood.
Totally agree! 😊🎨🎨🎨
Best wishes to your wife.
Thank you! She seems fine. Now with curly hair though. 😅
Increible
Thanks! 😊
Ridiculous! I wish I had your sense of color choice. Beautiful…
Thank you! I was not initially happy with my color design here, but eventually liked it after some filters and glazes. 😊
Gorgeous paintjob!! The colours..just wow!!
Thank you! Glad you like the painting. 😊🎨🎨🎨
Beautiful coloring on this mini.
Soooo big though. I was kinda tired midway. 😅
Incredible work. I would love to paint one of these up for my D&D world. It would fit perfectly.
Actually! Should be fun for a D&D campaign. 😊
you out did yourself on this one. Its amazing. wow! i want one lol
Haha! Thank you! 😊🎨🎨🎨
what a fantastic paint job! lovely work as always Don.
Thanks man! So big but happy I pulled it off. 😊🎨🎨🎨
Cool as always. 🐉
Thanks as always man! 🐉🎨🎨🎨
Vibrant job!
Thanks man! I love vibrant colors. They look nice in game and inside the display cabinet. 😊
I like that the channel is gearing towards 3D printed stuff now, more freedom with what to paint. I was planning on getting a 3D printer myself and whatever you're using seems very good, I hope you can share what printer you used for this miniature.
Oh I do not have a 3D printer man. I am afraid to get one, as printing will eat up my “painting time”. 😊
If I recall correctly, she's in remission from the cancer, yes? Either way, all the best to you and your family always, Don! I went ahead and used the Speedpaints 2.0 straight from the bottle and so far so good.
She just finished radiation therapy a couple of weeks ago. I do hope she is in remission bro. We have a check up soon! Oh… speedpaints are awesome. Just let it do it’s “thing” for a few minutes. 😊
Hi Don, hope your wife is getting better. I have a question. Did you use the Army painter air medium with the speedpaints in the airbrush?
Toby
Hi bro! No. I just airbrushed the speedpaints straight from the bottle. 😊🎨🎨🎨
@@DonSuratos excellent. I have some Mantic games terraincrate trees and things I will be using for this, and maybe some 30mm models when I get confident.
Thanks for the reply
Toby
Hi Don, i just bought the SpeedPaint 2.0, may i know what or you use to prime the white base in preparation for the speedpaint painting?
I usually use local spray can primers. Sometimes I use Warpaint Air grey primer and Warpaint Air white. I both seal with Vallejo Mecha matte varnish before painting speed paints. 😊
@@DonSuratos thank you for the info, extend my regards to your wifey, we will be praying for her quick recovery 🙏
@@ramongo7787 Thanks! Enjoy your speed painting. 😊
Pedire una pizza mientras espero
Im watching a movie… hope I stay awake. 😅
6:32 How thin are the coats when you say "two thin coats"? Like what ratio of speedpaint to speedpaint medium? Also, it's a lot of work but could you make a list of which speedpaints are a little too opaque right out of the bottle and which ones don't really need to be thinned?
Which Speedpaint set do you have? 😊
@@DonSuratos I have the Speedpaint 2.0 set.
@@ivangonzalez4054 Awesome! So… I think the speedpaints roughly 2 parts to 3 parts paint and 1 part speedpaint medium. This will reduce the coverage just a little bit, but will dry and lay down to the surface smoother. Let dry for 15 minutes before applying another coat. The darker speedpaints in general is easier to use when thinned down. The pastel colors are “opaque-ish”. Cheers!
@@DonSuratos Thank you very much!
Have you found that working with speed paint is an easier process than oils? I understand that they're different applications but have noticed you're not working with that medium very much.
I like working with oils during the summer. Oils are a bit more versatile as you can use oils for glazes, washes and highlights… but I love the faster drying time of speed paints. Speed paints for glazes and washes almost feel like oils though. 😊
of course you are a great painter but I have the impression Speed paints are not really "speedy" at all if u want great results right? They are good for quick and dirty slap chops the only problem being you have lots of competitors out there (and u may really just add flow improver to inks to obtain the same effect). I guess Army Painter's advantage is price and availability really. Then again I love the way u use color and the way u saturate it independently from the colours you use.
I agree… Speed paints on it’s own won’t be as good if you do not refine with highlights and more shades. It is so fun to use for quick base colors though… and can be as fast as when you use an airbrush. Ultimately, a combination of speed paints and regular paints is a must for good quality painting. 😊
