My sister went to school with Jobina, it was a ballet and drama school, where many well-known actors sent their children. When the school had open days, it was quite exciting as there'd be a performance, and it was a chance to see the famous of the day. On one such occaision, I met Margot Fontein, saw John Gregson, and got Harry Worths autograph. I think my dog got off the lead and ran across their (outdoors) stage. Can't remember exactly now, but think Harry helped me retrieve him, he was very kind, approachable and unassuming. That day was quite an eventful one, as my sis was deputy head girl, - the parents of the head girl didn't come, so my Dad was called on to make a speech after the performance. It still tickles me that my Dad had to make a speech in front of all those famous people!
What a nice gentle tribute from HW's daughter. The fact that he was an actor who wished to keep his private life private, so protecting his family, shows him in a good light and his daughter appears a lovely gentle person in this clip Thank you
Thanks for posting. Harry worth is one of the all time greats with timeless humour. Nice to see this insight. It saddens me that many modern entertainers fail to make us laugh and then compensate by using expletives which for some reason causes the audience to fall about laughing. Harry was so much better and could make us laugh with quality humour.
that was really nicely told by his daughter, good to see a star that wanted to keep his family life seperate from the biz and stay out of the limelight when not performing.
what an incredible man. so funny, so talented. a genuine comedic genius. made me laugh as a young boy, and hearing his shows repeated still does. and a very nice account of this show told by his daughter. Harry still lives on.
He was a lovely funny man, I met him a few times in the 70's and have great memories of those meetings and seeing him perform. I watched him every time he was on tv. his humour fascinated me.
His window routine was copied (badly!) for years by many fans! Mr Worth always came over as a gentle man - perhaps because he never knew his father who died when he was a baby and so he did not have a family male role model? I cannot imagine him as a miner and quite understand whh he hated the job!
@@georgealderson4424 Thank you for this insight, indeed mining would be one of the last occupations I would have imagined. I expect he kept the spirits of his workmates up.
@@tonycritcher3419 His father was a miner (I tbink that he died as a result of it) and as they came from South Yorkshire I suppose that is what most people would do for their living in those days in 1930s and 1940s. HW hated it - as you say it is hard to imagine him doing it - and he joined RAF during the war and entertained as an incompetant ventriloquist. I think that he was so bad at it that he amused everyone by accident and either Stan Laurel or Oliver Hardy who he appeared with in the latter years of their career suggested that he should give up the ventrilliquist act and stick to comedy. I think I have the story more or less as I read it. How did you meet him? I imagine him to have been a rather shy and gentle man in real life giving offence to no one unlike some so called comedians these days
@@georgealderson4424 Yes, mining terrible work. Hats off to those that did and still do. It was Stan Laurel gave the advice, but I am glad he was still using the dummy when I saw him '73 I think.
Harry Worth very funny guy and that glass reflection trick was amazing to us kids, every time we went passed a shop we all had to do the Harry Worth thing.......Ahhh those were the days ! His daughter is really nice too, I wonder if she does the reflection trick if she is with a friend............................... I bet she can't resist it.!
What a nice interview with Harry's daughter - a straightforward and a warm-hearted lady.
Wouldn't it be nice if these days we had comedians like Harry Worth? It's great he's now on youtube. I'd forgotten how great he was.
Such a funny man. Head and shoulders above today's so called comics.
