Sanji is probably the most well developed character in the anime, and is so beatiful that luffy is capable of understanding him and his fears. This scene always made me think alot about emotional intelligence and how it's important to understand people fear and principally, who they are in essence

Luffy genuinely loved the food. If Luffy was lying, we would've known because he sucks at it. Having the build up in Luffy's character adds so much depth to this scene it's unreal
I love how Sanji's 3 reasons show his priority and principles. First reason is he insulted his crew and captain. Second reason was that he was scared for Zeff, his adoptive dad which he sees as his real dad. And lastly, he still wants to save his blood family even after years of being assholes to him. Shows you what kind of guy he is no matter how hard he hides it. Problem is, Luffy is just the one guy who sees through all of his facade and never doubted Sanji would pull through.
God that hurts, “Your death’s a nuisance to everyone who’s known and loved you.” And especially the happy birthday panel is gonna break me when animated.
The really sad part of this and the reason Luffy takes this so serious as well as to why it affects him so much is that Luffys the type of guy to go to hell and back for someone he meets for the first time if he consider them a friend and the fact that one of his litteral crew mates is too afraid to ask for help is something that hurts Luffy personally and perceives it as himself failing his crew who he'd think would come to him with anything there dealing with.
I love this scene, but i can't stop thinking about how Luffy, after less than 2 days of not eating, looks almost worse than small Sanji did when he starved for months😅
Luffy always loses twice as much energy as an ordinary person, which is why he always eats too much after each battle and is also very gluttonous. Here he hasn't eaten anything since he fought with Sanji and fought without rest and meals. Luffy's body always suffers many consequences due to his power, it's like the bad thing about his power, with gear 5 it is worse
simply because he exhausted so much energy already. Remember he fought Cracker for hours before fending off an entire army. All this with an empty stomach. Zeff and Sanji just stood still on an island with rations
Maybe Luffy (Nika) is a Sun God, not because he's literally the Sun. I think he's called like that because he gives so much Hope when there's so much despair wherever he is. So "Sun God" = Rays of Hope. Luffy was always show winning battles with a Sun / Sunrays in his background. Alvida, Morgan, Kuro, Krieg, Arlong, Laboon, Crocodile, Enel, Lucci, Moria, Doffy, Kaido and more bosses from special episodes or movies. Luffy beat all of them and after that, sunlight is always shown behind him, and people around him looks so hopeful. Most of the fans are taking literal meaning of Nika being the Sun God, and Luffy needs to eat the Mother Flame or something. But I believe, Oda is planning to reveal some new kind of power with the "Ray of Hope / Sun God" but it's not gonna be a "fire" kind of power, rather a morale boost or something. That's why Mihawk was terrified of Luffy's ability to rally people behind his back. Because this is something only the Sun God can possess.
