It's worth remembering in my stance on this mic: It was originally $100, now being discounted at $40 and is easily beaten by any Chinese knockoff BM700/BM800 mic set up correctly, or the SM58, ATR2100USB, or Samson Q2U (review next week) for very similar prices. There's no "value" that a microphone this buggy and problematic offers over literally any competition.
Bought a $20 amazon kit of the BM-800 after watching a few videos to get started streaming(yes used the cat tail it came with jaja) added a Soundblaster K3+ and I like it for a beginner set up. But the best has been adjustments I learned from the tutorials! #patreon #supporteposvox
Honestly this review doesn't make any sense to me, I use this mic all the time and my audio never sounds like this. How did you manage to get the audio to be this garbage.
I plugged it in and hit record. Every sample I've seen of other people using it (there were some paid streamers like Broman using it last year or earlier this year) sounded just as bad.
Note: I back track my statement after comparing it to a few real XLR Cardioid Condenser Mics such as my current AT2020(NOT USB+) or my Shure SM7B. My audio test line up with what Epos said in his review this mic is garbage, don't use it.
I had an almost identical conclusion. It’s a trash microphone. I’m jealous you got it for $40...I bought it when it came out for $100 I think! Woe is me!
It made me angry I saw you tubers and influencers promoting this microphone. It’s literal garbage. There are cheap Chinese amazon mics that sound better.
That's the key Turtle Beach use to be a quality company, but ever since they started pumping out mass amounts of Xbox, and Playstation headsets their overall quality went way down hill.
Tenlux/Superlux is a fairly old and established Taiwanese dynamic electroacoustics manufacturer, and they have a selection of clone microphones mostly going for a vaguely AKG-like look and sound, but not nearly as well made with much more handling noise and presumably quite a bit more variance, but overall i'd say pretty decent. In Europe you easily get them at Thomann very cheaply. They also make headphones. Presonus headphones and some Samson headphones are engineered and built by Superlux, and some of Samson microphones might be too. I suspect newest Pioneer headphones also come from Superlux.
There was a broadcaster last year that had a deal to use this mic instead of their RE-20 for a given period, and it was ROUGH few weeks. Idk where the rumors of this mic ever being great came from, but thank god there are better options around the same price point.
I purchased the CAD M179 after seeing the recommendation by Booth Junkie, Mike DelGaudio. As my first XLR, it is miles ahead of the Producer USB that I've had for many years. Definitely not as good as your Electro-Voice RE20, as it's basically half the price, but I enjoy it quite well.
A friend uses this mic when we played together on Xbox. I'd be yelling at him to stop messing with his mic and he'd yell back turn down your volume! It picks up way to much and hurts the ears of anyone who has to listen to them.
i have it and its not bad also not worst mic ever also if u want backrounds quieter u gotta pres the AHEM "wifi button" which is acually a mode button change it to purple so theres a quieter backround but have closer to ur face idk how close depends on how loud you are theres 4 modes one makes backround quieter one for 360 audio one for in front and one for i forget and yea has more fuctions than most mics u knew nothing about any of the buttons idk why im even on this video i meant to be looking if a shock mount works on it do you know? im newer with mic acceserrze im a great speller btw

Im familiar with this mic cause ProfessorBroman had to use it for a year because of a contract. I couldnt watch him that entire year cause its so garbage compared to an RE20 or Procaster
LOL! RE20's are no match for the pure magic of a Turtle Head! Oh, the true warmth of upper mids. If you record everything through this, you'll never need/want NS10's.
I made the mistake of buying this before hearing any reviews. Let's just say I never opened it. I saw some reviews and decided I would be better off with something else. I wish I would have known you were looking for one I would have sent it to you.
it's better to buy an mic with usb input than this.It sounds like a headset mic. You should also provide a download link to the mic recording so that people can be more satisfied
Definitely needs a shock mount and a pop filter. I know I said this on the BLU mic video, but I honestly don't view the required use of shock mounts and pop filters as a drawback. I like your RE-20, of course, but I found it funny that you claimed this Turtle Beach mic was "tinny," when your RE-20 is far more tinny in comparison. The Turtle Beach actually has way more midrange, which is what a streamer would need for their voice to pop out over gameplay. Your RE-20 is scooped out in the mids, leaving behind more bass and treble, which could easily get masked by in-game music and impact sounds. Perhaps that's why your viewer suggested it was "better." They probably aren't an audio engineer, and if their audience was able to hear them better while streaming, that equates to "better" for someone who doesn't understand frequency response. Also, for what it's worth, microphones aren't said to have "polar modes," they're referred to as "polar patterns." Don't get me wrong, I don't want this mic, but I'm sure if it's all I had, I'd be able to make good use of it. A real engineer can make a gold record out of a bucket of SM-57s. When you had this mic almost off-camera, it sounded fine. Way better than the BLU did that far from your face, and you complained that the BLU had to be too close. Well, this one you put close to your face, and complained it was distorted, even though you prefer to have your mics off-camera. Contradictory message between the two reviews.
Yes they have "polar patterns" but if you have a switch to switch between patterns, those are considered "modes". Plus, it was just a random mispeak that no one should care about :P I think part of what you missed when having the mic off-camera position is that I was having to talk very uncomfortably loudly, which is not sustainable for long sessions and caused a lot more room reverb/reflections off of my monitor into the mic.
Also it's still distorting from the impact of my voice around 03:05 where it is about as far away from me as a desk-mounted mic is going to be able to get.
I guess what I'm saying is, at 3:05, it's too close, and at 3:36, it sounds "fine." Not amazing, but I think you're too critical for a $40 mic. Again, someone can pick up and SM-57 for that kind of money, and I think someone would be better off doing so, but then they'd need an A2D interface. If they spend too little on the their mic pre, it'll sound like garbage, and now this is all adding up quick! True, in order to get the mic far enough away, you needed a boom arm, which the mic doesn't come with, but it's not that hard to come up with a way of setting the mic where you need it. Get a stack of books. A shelf, whatever. Plus, a boom arm is cheaper than an RE-20, mic pre, A2D interface, etc. If someone is just testing the waters at being a streamer, I think $40 is a fair investment. As far as letting you know about saying, "polar pattern," I'm just trying to help. I went to college for this stuff, and I am a career media creator of nearly 20 years now. I felt like I was sharing info with you to make you better. I'm sure it must come off like I'm arguing with you. I'm not. I'm subscribed to your channel because I like your content. Sorry if it seems like I'm a pain to speak to.
Cardioid microphones are not designed to be so far away from the mouth, generally speaking. And this is an originally $100 mic now being sold for $40 because no one's buying it. and for $57-ish you can get a Samson Q2U which is both USB and XLR (for future setup growth) and leagues better. You're not a pain to speak to, heh. I just get a lot of people who nitpick words that don't matter.
And I don't feel 3:36 sounds "fine" at all. It's serviceable, sure, but I'm talking way too loud to have usable levels and there's far too much reverb/reflection pickup as a result. Would be very tiring to listen to over time - on top of tiring to use
Get a SteelSeries GameDAC gen 2, plug your USB mic into your PC and the mic headphone port into the line in of the GameDAC. Boom. Perfect USB mic and audio straight from Xbox with audio mixing and monitoring.
If you're searching for a cheap good mic, buy the samson meteor mic, it's way better than most mic's at 50$ (or euro's if you live in europe like me) and it's plug and play like this one. Seriously the meteor mic is as good as a yeti thats twice the price lol

"Quit hating" isn't an opinion. It's trying to invalidate my own criticisms/opinion with as literal real-world and direct backing up of why I feel that way as it gets because you bought one.
You likely weren't a "huge fan" since this has been your only comment on any of my videos. And I have yet to be rude, I simply call out nonsense such as "quit hating". ADIOS!
this microphone represent literally the whole product spectrum and target audience of this company: - overpriced for what it achieves - bad quality for the amount it costs - marketing targeted at easily influencable children by their beloved streamers/pros/whoever they admire
Well when you can get a $7 USD Philips Karaoke mic with a 3.5mm jack that sounds better once you add wind filter off eBay for another $0.99, and another mic holder for $0.99 for use to adapt to just about any camera tripod, then yeah $40 is way too much, when you hear all the noise this mic made when he was adjusting it.
Also you sounded a bit conceited at the end there. It's a bad way to be, just saying. Pretty much "those people who are dumber than me might like it. They're so stupid they don't just instantly know how to use a microphone correctly." Like, sorry some of us don't have a giant room full of expensive hardware to work with.
I'm sorry you felt that way. For context, this was following a MASSIVE marketing push last year or earlier this year where plenty of major streamers (like Professor Broman, etc.) were paid to use this terrible, terrible mic in place of their expensive audio hardware setups and push it on viewers like this, and those streamers actually took said paid gigs, and thus the consequence of someone believing it's a good alternative.
The mic capsule is literally distorting from my quietest speaking voice. Nothing about it “sounds really good”. I’ve reviewed PLENTY of mics cheaper than this that I hold in very high regard.
Yeah this mic sounded pretty bad. It was worse than my blue yeti. And my shure mv7 which I knew this mic would be way worse than the mv7 lmao. Don't hit like on this comment
Just because it's better than your laptop's internal microphone doesn't mean I'm overreacting. My experience with the microphone was the worst I've ever had with any USB microphone, and there are *countless* mics for the money that don't provide such a terrible experience. That is objective fact. That's the reality. Even the knockoff no-name USB mics on Amazon provide a better experience than I had here. There's no overreaction. Just a reaction to the truth.
It is better then your
Other mic
No, under no circumstances is a mic that distorts with any talking I do better than any other mic I use.
just 2 let u know
u have way to many tabs open my dude
Never noticed
What is wrong with y'all it sounds FINE
>capsule is literally distorting with half of my syllables
"SOUNDS FINE"
ok
I thought you were hitting something by accident or smth
Other than that though it's half decent
@@limabeangamesDude, the mic isn't good whatsoever.
@@kadrix732 lmao that comment was written before I knew what good audio gear was, I apologize
That's unfortunate coming from Turtle Beach. I am a loyal fan of their headphones though.
this microphone represent literally the whole product spectrum and target audience of this company:
- overpriced for what it achieves
- bad quality for the amount it costs
- marketing targeted at easily influencable children by their beloved streamers/pros/whoever they admire
Lol good video
Thanks for watching!
It doesn't even sound bad. Use a noise removal if you are editing. Use a noise gate if you are streaming. $40 isn't a bad price.
They're so stupid they don't just instantly know how to use a microphone correctly."
Like, sorry some of us don't have a giant room full of expensive hardware to work with.
Even my £11 mic is better
I hate this guy cus he's dogging a cheap mic that sounds really good
The mic capsule is literally distorting from my quietest speaking voice. Nothing about it “sounds really good”. I’ve reviewed PLENTY of mics cheaper than this that I hold in very high regard.
My bad I'm just used to really shity mics and thought that one sounded good

FOURDTHST
Yeah this mic sounded pretty bad. It was worse than my blue yeti. And my shure mv7 which I knew this mic would be way worse than the mv7 lmao.
Don't hit like on this comment
Michael p is still worse

nuhuh, it was meeeee!
🤣🤣
Lmao ur over reacting
The mic literally distorts just from me speaking, even at a distance. It's by far the worst microphone I've ever reviewed in my career.
Well I am happy for using my laptops micro so u are over reacting dude
Just because it's better than your laptop's internal microphone doesn't mean I'm overreacting. My experience with the microphone was the worst I've ever had with any USB microphone, and there are *countless* mics for the money that don't provide such a terrible experience.
That is objective fact. That's the reality. Even the knockoff no-name USB mics on Amazon provide a better experience than I had here.
There's no overreaction. Just a reaction to the truth.
