I recall 60-ish years ago seeing David Attenborough in a cave, on a hill of bat guano. Television then was only black and white and he described the stench of ammonia almost choking him. I wonder if this is the same cave.

When I returned after a 2 week vacation to my rental apartment in a very hot country, I was shocked to see the entire carpet covered in roaches. You could not walk without stepping on a few of them. Turns out the heat had evaporated the water in the toilet bowl and let the denizens of the underworld into my life. I never felt "relieved" sitting on the toilet bowl after that. It took me a couple of days to eradicate them from the apartment.

I literally just had that happen to me last night. I tried spraying this 2 in long cockroach in my shower, only for it to start FLYING towards me. I legit cowered in fear the moment I saw that. Thank god it didn’t touch me or I would’ve vomited Later come to learn that this species of cockroach will actually fly towards danger as a defense mechanism, hoping to make you run away. Would’ve been nice to know prior to spraying it…
Guano makes very good fertilizer, and it is just as precious as gold to some people. Everything that falls to the ground is devoured by the roaches in less than 24 hours. The real danger is falling and being knocked out.

The only two roach species that invade and bother people's space and homes are the American Cockroach (the big flying ones that people wrongly call "water bugs" even though they're not), and the German Cockroach (the smaller ones that don't fly). Most other roach species live in grass, and shrubs, and sand, and caves, away from houses.
Cockroaches are some of the most fascinating insects. They come in a large diversity of shapes, colors, sizes, and abilities. Some act as pollinators, others as detritivores eating leaf litter. Some mimic species of beetles, showing off a flashy display of iridescent color, and very few infest our homes. Sadly, those few home invaders give all roaches a bad name. There's 100% lots of giant centipedes in there (I'm not talking about the ones with fragile exoskeletons, I mean the REALLY big ones), they LOVE this kind of habitat in South America and in South Eastern Asia.
