Local shop here in Montgomery Texas wanted $6,000 to do that job and they told me i might get 20,000 more miles out of it. I decided to do what you did and take care of it myself. I had a lifter that spun sideways and ate the camshaft
@@chrisoconnell9416 Thank you for the follow-up. Good luck on the replacement! It took me and my boy about 4 days. It was our first crack at it after watching a bunch of UA-cam videos. All in all, a huge success.
@projectfixit I'm a seasoned mechanic of old school projects. I've installed many engines and transmissions on old stuff (. 66 mustang, 72, Impala, 77 ford truck, and a 98 Dakota) This is my first newer model I've ever gone this far into
I hate to hear this. Advice I have being it was my first go-around is: don’t rush and find your inner patience. There are a couple of good vilifies out there tackling this job. Please review those as well. To date, our truck is still running like a champ. I’m still recovering from the pocket book impact, though.
I need an engine replacement… what would y’all suggest? Going to a dealership or having it rebuilt? And if having it rebuilt, how would I go about finding someone to do it? Thanks in advance for any and all suggestions. I too have a 2013 Dodge Ram 1500 hemi
Dodge techs have consistently estimated cam and lifter (parts and labor) to be, on average approximately $4,500 - $5,300 total. I’m in the middle of doing this job right now 2015 Ram 1500 5.7 Hemi, and it sucks big time. Everyone says not to skimp on the cheap camshaft and especially not on the lifters. Mopar Parts: camshaft with MDS and VVT is about $450; All new lifters $1,200; 2 X head gaskets $160; timing cover gasket $25; valve cover gaskets $50 You can get a Melling high volume oil pump for about $250 (better than Hellcat pump); Timing Chain $60 It isn’t cheap at all.
Thanks for the feedback! I, too, am dealing with the heartburn of parts cost for this as I opted for the OEM cam and lifters. It is nice to know I saved myself 2-3 grand in labor. BTW, the truck runs better than it ever has since we have owned it after completing this job.
The chicken noises are crazy 😂😂
I know what you are saying! Those darn turkeys cackled at every little sound.
@@projectfixit oh those are turkeys?😂 anyway great video as always.
