I don't know if you've heard it yet, but she covered "The Dance" by Garth Brooks in a tribute show to him. She had told Garth that she listened to that song during all the divorce mess to help her deal with it. She did amazing.
Kelly Clarkson can sing ANYTHING and it's beautiful! She has a beautiful tone, and she definitely knows her voice and what tricks would work in different parts of the song. She's genius!!

Dolly Parton wrote the song and recorded it. She also sang it in the movie “Best Little Whorehouse in Texas” . This is my first time seeing this … chills and tears! My daughter used to kid me about loving Kellymore thank her. :)

I felt like she was fighting back the tears but what alot of People don/t know is right before she walked out on stage to sing this song to honor Dolly she recieved a call to tell her that her Divorce was final and both signed degree... she said what a song to go out and sing just moments before the news.... she is such an amazing performer

Dolly Parton wrote this song in 1974 for Porter Waggoner when she parted from his television show. Dolly was the first to perform it and she has made millions from other artists who have recorded it. From the Whitney Houston recording, in the 90s alone, she got royalties over 10 million dollars. Elvis Presley had asked to perform it at one time but when Colonel Tom Parker (Presley's manager) told her it was standard procedure that the songwriter sign over half of the publishing rights to any song recorded by Elvis she refused the request.
She's just special, that's all there is to it. I've never heard her miss ..just wow. It also brings a tear to me thinking of Whitney...such a loss to the world.

Dolly Parton wrote and sang the song first, it's her song. The song was composed by Dolly for her business partner Porter Wagoner when they parted ways and Dolly started a solo career. The song became popular due to the Bodyguard movie and Whitney's take on it and from that point on everyone knows the story.
This usually always is known as Whitney’s song. But the initial reasoning and meaning of why Dolly wrote this song is so personal and emotional. Whitney was a powerhouse with the song, Dolly sang it from her emotions with her experience and Kelly did great mixing the two, and like you said having been going through the end of her marriage I’m sure took it to that emotional place for her like Dolly (although for Dolly she wrote it bc she was leaving her manager).
