Jenny Wiley (born Jean "Jenny" Sellards in 1760 in Pennsylvania - 1831) was a legendary pioneer woman who was taken captive by Native Americans in 1789. Wiley endured the slaying of her brother and children and then escaped after 11 months of captivity. Jenny Wiley State Resort Park in Prestonsburg, Kentucky is named in her honor.
I enjoyed seeing Prestonsburg in this video! Back in the 90’s and early 2000 I would travel to Prestonburg for my job. Is that big boulder still sitting on top of a car there on the side of the road? That always amazed me. I’ve stayed at Jenny Wiley in a cabin and ate at a restaurant called Sam & Tonio’s!!!! I couldn’t believe all the logging trucks on the road back then but I didn’t see any in your video. I also remember eating breakfast at an upstairs diner on the side of the road. I think I saw it in this video only goodness knows if it’s still a diner. One of the things that made me sad was the destruction of the mountains from strip mining. You can read about that all day long but actually seeing it is another story. Oh, I’ve been to Paintsville and Pikeville too! Thanks for taking me on a ride down memory lane Kristopher. 💗🙋🏼♀️

I was just thinking that someone in another country could see first hand what a part of Kentucky looks like. Those rock walls had to be cut through a hill to make the road, can you imagine how much heavy work that was to make the road? That amazes me. Love the tours you put up.
OMGosh, Kris! I've wanted to see Prestonsburg for years! My best friend was from there. He passed away in 2010. He always talked about Prestonsburg with such affection. He loved that town. Thanks for showing it to me. His name was Robert Osborne. I wonder if there are any other Osborne's in the area? I will have to visit there someday and search. Thanks again.
In the winter, ground water can seep out of the fissures in those rock walls, which forms beautiful, large, long icicles. If it's the north face, they'll stay there a long time.
@@KristoferTravelsHomesteading When I was a kid and my dad and I were traveling in Eastern Kentucky, he would point to them and say, "Hey, look at those poopsicles!"
